Lente!! / Spring!!

Afgelopen week hebben we prachtig lenteweer gehad, het zonnetje scheen en het was weer eens tijd voor een wandeling door mijn prachtige omgeving: kortom genieten :D!

Oma genoot ook even van het zonnetje, maar opzij van het kippenhok trok een beweging haar aandacht……

The past week we have had beautiful sunny spring weather, the sun was shining and I went outdoors for a walk through my beautiful surroundings: in short, it was enjoying :D!

Grandma also has enjoyed the sun, but at one side from the chicken coop a movement attracted her attention ......

Ze legde snel de pop van een van haar kleinkinderen weg en ging eens een kijkje nemen.

Quickly she laid aside the doll of one of her grandchildren and went there to take a look.

Ma Schaap kwam achter het kippenhok vandaan, maar……

Mom Sheep came from behind the chicken coop, but….

…….ze was niet alleen!

……she was not alone!

Een van de ooien had besloten om Oma met haar lam te verrassen. 

Het is echt een schatje, vind je niet :)!?

Last night one of the ewes had decided to surprise grandma with her lamb.

Ma Schaap stond toe dat Oma kennis maakte met de kleine, maar bleef als een goede moeder wel mooi tussen beide in staan ;O! Haar lam was erg nieuwsgierig en na een aarzeling wilde het wel weten wie Oma was…..

Mom Sheep allowed her lamb to greet grandma, but being a good Mom, she stayed permanently between both of them ;O! Her lamb was very curious and after some hesitation it wanted to know who grandma was…

…..even ruiken aan haar vingers, Oma is oké :)!

Ik wil jullie ook even vertellen dat mijn partner en ik beiden een operatie ondergaan. Dat zal morgen en de dag daarna plaatsvinden, slechte planning, maar die keus was niet aan ons :D! Vanzelfsprekend zal ik vanaf nu niet in de blogwereld te vinden zijn, ik vraag om jullie begrip hiervoor.  Zo gauw als ik weer wat beter voel, zien jullie me wel weer met een koffer gevuld met reacties verschijnen, goed ;)? Ik wens jullie een fijne lente, tot ziens :D!

I want you all to know that my partner and I both will have surgery. This will take place tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, bad planning, but this choice wasn’t ours :D! Needless to say that from now I won’t visit the blog world, so I ask you for your understanding. As soon as I’m feeling better, you’ll see me again in the blog world with my suitcase filled with comments, okay ;)?

Blauw wit / Blue white

In de afgelopen weken had ik niet veel tijd om miniaturen te maken, het echte leven zat me behoorlijk dwars. Daarnaast ben ik toch aan het ‘oefenen’ geweest om tulpen in de schaal 1:24 te maken, pfiew, wat een gefriemel is dat, zeg! En als je zo klein werkt, is de kans op verlies van de details, die kenmerkend zijn voor (in dit geval) tulpen, erg groot…..dus blijf ik oefenen, oefenen en nog eens oefenen ;)!

In these last few weeks real life got me in the way and I didn’t have much time for making miniatures. Beside that, I still was ‘practising’ for making tulips in scale 1:24 (is that half scale in English?), phew, what a finicking work was that! And if you are working that tiny, the chance of losing the most characteristic details for tulips (in this case) is very plausible….so I'm still practising, practising and again practising ;)!

Ik had niet eens een klein vaasje voor deze tulpjes, ze staan dan ook in een 1:12 bloemenvaas van 2 cm hoog J!

Vorig jaar kreeg ik een e-mail met een vraag over de schoentjes van het popje Daisy. Ze had All Stars gympjes aan en de vraag was of ik ze ook los van de voetjes kon maken. Toen had ik er geen tijd voor, maar in de afgelopen maand heb ik het toch eens geprobeerd. Dit is het resultaat:

Last year I received an email of someone, who asked me if I could make her a pair of loose shoes, just like the doll Daisy was wearing at her feet. At that time I didn’thave the time to give it a try, but this last month I’ve tried to make these tiny shoes. This is the result:

Maar helemaal tevreden ben ik er nog niet over….

Zoals je kunt zien zijn ze 15-16 mm groot, wat betekent dat deze schoentjes voor (echte) kinderen van ongeveer 2-3 jaar oud zijn.

 But still I’m not quite satisfied about them….

As you can see these shoes measure about 15-16 mm, what means that these shoes are for (RL) kids of about 2-3 years old.

Eén schoentje maken is één ding, maar om de tweede goed én gespiegeld te maken, dat is andere koek. Dus blijf ik nog veel oefenen :D!

Making a shoe for a right foot is quite a job, but making a well mirrored left shoe, that’s another thing. So I still have to practise a lot :D! 

Ik vind het leuk om de schoentjes een  ‘gebruikte’ look te geven, dus de zool is een beetje ‘vies’ ;)!

I like to give these shoes a used look, so the soles are a bit ‘dirty’ ;)!

De lente is volop aan de gang, mijn bloementuin wordt al behoorlijk wakker: vergeet-mij-nietjes en witte druifjes, óók mooi blauw en wit :D!

Zuster Klivia / Nurse Klivia

Eerst wil ik jullie even laten weten dat ik van af nu mijn blog foto’s ga ‘watermerken’. Want sinds een paar weken heb ik gemerkt dat ik, net als Brae ( http://www.otterine.com/blog/blog1.php/buzz-kill ), extreem veel pageviews heb gehad. Op mijn dashboard kan ik zien dat mijn blog wordt ‘gepromoot’ op (voor mij) totaal onbekende buitenlandse vreemde websites. Vermoedelijk ben ik ook een van die ‘slachtoffers’, zoals Brae. Als je wilt weten waar dit over gaat, lees dan eventjes haar blog hierover, dan weet je waarom ik mijn foto’s zal gaan merken. Ik denk niet dat het veel zal helpen, maar toch…..

Zo, dat is dat, terug naar de mini’s.

First of all I want you to know that from now I’ll watermarking my blog pictures. Because since a few weeks I have noticed that, just like Brae ( http://www.otterine.com/blog/blog1.php/buzz-kill ) I have an extremely number of pageviews. I can see on my blog dash board that my blog is ‘promoted’ on lots of (for me) unknown foreign strange websites. Probably I’m also one of the ‘victims’, like Brae. So please, click on the above link and read her blog, where this is all about and you will understand why I’ll marking my pictures. I don’t think it won’t help much, but still…..

Well, that’s it, back into miniatures.

Omdat ik een Clivia miniata (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clivia_%28planten%29 ) in miniatuur wilde namaken voor mijn miniatuur Oma, moest ik tijdens het surfen op internet gelijk aan ‘Zuster Klivia’ uit de jaren ’60 denken :D.

Bij mijn Nederlandse lezers zou deze naam nog wel eens herinneringen kunnen oproepen, want in de jaren ’60 in Nederland was Zuster Klivia namelijk een van de hoofdrolspelers in een humoristische televisieserie.

Because I wanted to make a miniature Clivia miniata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clivia_miniata ) for my miniature Grandma, I was surfing on the internet and I immediately remembered me another Clivia, namely 'Nurse Klivia' from a Dutch television series of the 60s :D.

This Dutch television series can possibly evoke some memories at my Dutch blog readers, because in The Netherlands Nurse Klivia was one of the leading actors in the series.

Oké, verder met de plant Clivia, geschreven met een C, ofwel mijn miniatuur Clivia miniata!

Okay, now we’ll continue with the plant Clivia, the one written with a C, or the Clivia miniata!

Op de bovenstaande foto zie je dat de Clivia miniata bijna 5 cm hoog is, maar omdat ze wat schuin omhoog ligt ivm met haar bladeren, kun je het niet zo goed zien.

On the above picture you see that the Clivia miniata is nearly 5 cm high, but because she is lying obliquely upwards on her leaves, you can’t see it very well.

Tijdens het maken kwamen er onderaan de plant steeds meer eindjes van bloemendraad bij, waardoor bij mij het idee ontstond om hiervan de vlezige lichtgekleurde wortels te maken, die de plant in het echt ook heeft ;O!

While making this plant I got lots of tiny end pieces of the floral wire at the bottom of the plant, which gave me the idea for making light colored fleshy roots of these loose ends, just like the plant also has in real life ;O!

Jammer, dat je de wortels nu niet meer kunt zien......maar IK weet dat ze er zijn, hè Betsy ;O?!

It's a pity you can't see the roots anymore.....but I know that they are there, isn't it, Betsy ;O?!

Vóór dat Oma de Clivia in een grotere bloempot heeft gezet, heeft ze een jonge scheut van de moederplant gehaald om zo een nieuwe stek te kweken van haar geliefde Clivia.

Before Grandma has put the Clivia in a larger pot, she took a young shoot from the mother plant, for getting a new cutting of her beloved Clivia.

En na het verpotten kwam de Clivia weer op de plantentafel (http://arjenspinhoven.nl/ ) in de ‘pronk’ kamer van de boerderij te staan.

And after repotting the Clivia went back to its place on the plant table (http://arjenspinhoven.nl/ ) in the 'best' room of the farm.

Hybride theerozen / Hybrid tea roses

Na een aantal pogingen om ze te maken, heb ik vandaag besloten om deze veelkleurige theerozen met jullie te delen. Het was een heel werk om op elk van al die bloemblaadjes meerdere kleurtjes te geven, maar ik ben nu tevreden met het resultaat :D!

After several attempts to make them, I’ve decided today to share these multicolored tea roses with you. It was a lot of work for giving multiple colors to each of those petals, but now I’m satisfied with the result :D!

Het was mijn bedoeling om er de mooie wandtafel (van http://arjenspinhoven.nl ) voor te gebruiken, die ik vorig jaar had gekocht. Op het bovenblad is een prachtig dessin gelaserd, maar helaas vielen daardoor wel steeds mijn vazen met bloemen om bij elk zuchtje  ;O.

It was my intention to use the wonderful side table (of http://arjenspinhoven.nl ), which I've bought last year. On the table top is a wonderful lasered pattern, but because of this pattern all of my vases unfortunately were falling with every sigh ;O.

Deze wandtafel is van mdf materiaal, daarom heb ik hem zó geschilderd dat het meer op echt hout lijkt. Om het ‘probleem’ met het tafelblad op te lossen, heb ik het omgedraaid en veranderd in een ‘marmeren’ blad. Op papier heb ik geprobeerd te ‘marmeren’ en dat op een stukje passe-partout karton geplakt.

This side table is made of mdf, that’s why I’ve painted it, just like it’s made of real wood. To solve the ‘problem’ of the table top, I’ve turned the top upside down and I've changed it into a faux marble one. I’ve tried to paint faux marble on a piece of paper and than I've glued it on a piece of cardboard for making passe-partouts.

Het was leuk om mijn rozen in een verschillende vazen te schikken, om te zien hoe ze er dan uit zouden zien.

 It was fun to arrange my roses in few different vases, in order to see how they looked like than.

Knuffeldiertjes / Cuddly toys

Vanmorgen scheen nog heel even de zon, voordat het hier (aan de oostgrens van Nederland) vreselijk ging stormen, dat doet het nog overigens nog steeds. Genietend van de warme zon heeft Oma nog even een naaldje gebreid aan een truitje voor een van de kleinkinderen, terwijl ook de lapjeskat heerlijk lag te slapen in de zon. Op de grond bij Oma’s voeten staat een mand met een paar knuffeldiertjes…..

This morning, before we got a terrible storm here (at the East side of The Netherlands and it still does), the sun was shining lovely. Enjoying the warm sun, Grandma has knitted an other needle of a sweater for one of her grand children, while the calico cat also was sleeping in the sun. At her feet on the floor stands a basket with a few cuddly toys…..

…..een eendje en een olifantje.

Ik ben naar de DHN-show in Ulft geweest en ik heb toch zo'n heerlijk weekenduitje gehad: ik heb allerlei nationale en internationale miniaturisten gezien en hun prachtige miniaturen bewonderd.

Een van hen was Elles (Leenders) en na een gezellig praatje heb ik haar patroonboekjes en speciale stofjes gekocht om miniatuur knuffeltjes te kunnen maken. Het lijkt een ‘eenvoudig’ werkje om te doen, maar dat gepriegel met 2 mm zoompjes naaien valt nog niet mee! Dus, chapeau voor Elles, die de mooiste knuffeltjes op haar tafel had staan.

I’ve visited the Dolls House Netherlands show in Ulft and I’ve had such a lovely weekend: I’ve met all kind of national and international miniaturists and I've admired their gorgeous miniature works.

One of them was Elles (Leenders) and after a cosy chat I’ve bought  two of her booklets with patterns and some of her special fabrics to make cuddly toys. It seems a ‘simple’ chore to do, but sewing the 2 mm seams of these cuddly toys was quite a fussing! So, chapeau for Elles, who showed the most wonderful cuddly toys on her table.

Natuurlijk wilde ik 'eenvoudig' beginnen met een eendje, maar ik had geen helder geel stofje gekocht, dus heb ik hiervoor een oud knuffeltje gebruikt. Het was een enorm gepriegel en gaandeweg kwam ik er achter dat dit stofje ook nog eens te elastisch was..... 

Of course I wanted to start with a 'simple' duckling, but I hadn’t bought a bright yellow fabric, so I’ve used the fabric of an old cuddly toy. It was quite a fiddling and gradually I also discovered that this fabric was much too elastic.....

Dat alleen was niet zo erg, maar ik had ook niet op de vleug van de stof gelet: die zat bij mijn eendje ondersteboven! Het gevolg was een soort Elvis Presley-eendje, eentje met zo'n lange kuif wel te verstaan :D!

That wasn’t all, because I also didn't notice about the direction of the hair in the fabric: it was upside down! The result of my sewing work was a duckling with a long tuft, just like Elvis Presley had :D!

Toen heb ik noodgedwongen mijn gebogen schaartje gepakt en al het ‘haar’ afgeknipt, waarna ik ook gelijk het vilt voor de voetjes en het snaveltje heb bijgeknipt. Ik was zo driftig aan het knippen dat ik een steekje van een van de vleugeltjes los knipte, maar nu heb ik door dit avontuur wél een echt geliefd (lees versleten) knuffeltje gemaakt, mooi toch ;)?

Perforce I had to take my curved pair of scissors and I've cut off all the 'hair', where after I've cut off any excess of the felt too, in order to reform the beak and the feet. I was so eager to cut, that I cut loose one little stitch from one of the wings, but by this adventure I now have a real loved (read worn) cuddly toy, that's nice, eh ;)?

Omdat ik de knuffeltjes persoonlijk ietsjes te groot vond (3 cm) heb ik de patroontjes een beetje verkleind. Nu zijn ze ongeveer een halve centimeter kleiner in hoogte en lengte.

Inmiddels heb ik er drie gemaakt: een eendje (2 cm hg), een olifantje (2,5 cm hg) en een eekhoorntje (2 cm hg), hup, gezellig allemaal in Oma’s mandje :D!

I’ve reduced the patterns a bit, because I personally thought they were a little bit too big (3 cm). Now they’re about 5 mm smaller in height and length.

In the meanwhile I’ve sewn three of them: a duckling (2 cm high), an elephant (2,5 cm high) and a squirrel (2 cm high), hop, there they go into Granny’s basket :D!

Afgevallen / Lose in weight

Jullie zouden haar al eens op mijn blog gezien kunnen hebben: mijn mini oma. Ze is al een jaar of 10 geleden van Fimo klei gemaakt en intussen heb ik via blogs heel veel bijgeleerd over miniaturen maken. Dus ook oma moest er aan geloven: een make-over ;)! Nu wilde ik dat ze op mijn eigen oma leek (zij is al lang geleden overleden) en dat was een hele uitdaging en nog een flinke klus.

You might have seen her before on my blog: my miniature granny. It’s about ten years ago that I’ve made her of Fimo clay and in the meanwhile I’ve learned a lot more about making miniatures by visiting blogs. So, there was no help for granny: she also had to got a make-over ;)! But now I wanted that she looked like my own granny (who passed away many years ago) and that was quite a challenge and a big chore to do so.

 Kleding uit, er op geschilderde slippers verwijderd met aceton, overtollige watten en katoendraad van haar ledematen verwijderd, haar haar en ook het plexiglazen voetensteuntje om te kunnen staan ging eraf.

Nu was haar flinke gewichtsverlies in een uurtje gepiept, dat zou in het echt niet zo verkeerd zijn, toch ;)?!

I removed clothing, the (painted) slippers with acetone, all of the superfluous wadding and cotton thread were removed from her limbs, her hair and finally the plexiglass standard (which made it possible for her to stand alone) were removed.

It took her about an hour to lose so much in weight, well, that wouldn’t be so wrong in real life, don’t you think ;)?!

De hoeveelheid katoen draad heb ik meer dan gehalveerd en opnieuw gebruikt om de ledematen wat vulling te geven. Maar door minder vulling te gebruiken, waren haar onderbroek en bloemetjes jurk ook te groot geworden, die heb ik toen maar flink ingenomen.

For filling her limbs I've now used less than the half of the cotton thread. But by using much less of the cotton filling her underpants and floral dress had become much too large, so I’ve taken them in.

Haar benen heb ik een okergele wassing van acrylverf gegeven, zodat het net lijkt of ze nylon kousen uit de jaren ’50 draagt. En ja, natuurlijk weet ik dat er ‘gaatjes’ en ‘ladders’ in haar kousen zitten, maar ze was dan ook een boerenvrouw, dus dat was vrij aannemelijk ;O!

I gave her under legs a wash of diluted ochreous acrylic paint, so this way it looks like she wears nylon stockings from the 50’s. And yes, of course I know there are ‘holes’ and ‘ladders’ in her stockings, but hey, she was a farmers wife, so that’s very likely ;O!

 Oma droeg altijd een gekleurde schort om haar kleding te beschermen tijdens haar werk op de boerderij.

My grandma always wore a colored apron in order to protect her clothing during her work on the farm.

Ik heb voor haar een verschoten schort gemaakt met grote zakken en schouderbanden, die ze kruiste op haar rug.

I have made for her a faded apron with big pockets and shoulder straps, which were crossed on her back. 

Mijn echte Oma had heel dun, ‘peper en zout’-kleurig haar en in miniatuur was het best moeilijk om met heel weinig lamswol toch haar opgestoken kapsel na te maken.

Grandma had in RL very thin hair with a color like 'pepper and salt', like we are used to say in The Netherlands, and in miniature it was rather difficult to give her her hairdo with a fluff of lambswool and to put her hair up the same way, like she always did.

Ze droeg ook een bril (deze laser cut bril is van Minis di Pier Luigi). Ik heb deze een beetje verbogen tot het model dat oma had.

She also wore a pair of glasses (these glasses are from Minis di Pier Luigi). I've bent this pair of glasses to get the model, which my grandma wore.

Haar benen en voeten waren behoorlijk oedemateus, want mijn oma leed ernstig aan diabetes, daarom liep ze op grote herenpantoffels.

De voeten van mijn miniatuur oma waren echter nog steeds niet in proportie, dus moest ik de slippers ervan afsnijden en daarna nog eens schilfertje voor schilfertje bijwerken in de hoop dat de voet aan het been zou blijven zitten ;).

Because my grandma was seriously suffering from diabetes, her legs and feet were quite edematous, therefore she walked on big slippers for men.

However, the feet of my miniature grandmother were still out of proportion, so I had to cut off the (clay) slippers and then I had to improve the feet by cutting off clay, chip for chip, hoping that the feet would remain at the leg ;).

Deze rookstoel was erg populair in de jaren ’50 en mijn grootouders hadden dan ook zo’n leunstoel. Afgelopen weekend was ik op de DHN-beurs in Ulft en ook zo gelukkig om deze stoel te vinden bij Loes Snoodijk, ik heb 'm gelijk gekocht. Zij maakt o.a. deze stoelen en nog veel ander mooi meubilair.

This type of armchair was very popular in the 50’s in The Netherlands and my grandparents had this armchair too. Last weekend I’ve visited the DHN miniature fair in Ulft and was so lucky to find and buy this gorgeous armchair of Loes Snoodijk, who has made this beauty and other gorgeous furniture.
