In de soep / In the soup

The build of my miniature farm is progressing more slowly than I thought in advance, this has also to do with the fact that I don’t posess the exact measurements of the real life farm. Now it seems that the farm will be quite large in surface (although I build in the 1:12 scale) and that means that I can store it nowhere in my house. For that reason I decided to build the farm into parts/rooms/segments, so I can store it in a cabinet, out of the dust.
So, this the reason why I still can’t show you anything is that the building process is a bit delayed. In Dutch we have a nice saying for this sort of things, that is (literally translated): it walked into the soup/it’s delayed.

Now that I have arrived at the stables for the pigs and cows, animals had to be "fitted" for finding the right sizes and that was not easy ... because here, in The Netherlands, the cattle is already outdoors because of very early spring ;). Try to get inside a cow inside, who has just left the stable, dancing of pure joy into the meadow after winter, well, I'm pretty sure that you really won't succeed ;).

Koe is gemaakt door Patricia Cabrera / Cow is made by Patricia Cabrera

But my mini Grandpa is an old and experienced farmer and managed to catch one in the meadow. Look here, he got her calm enough to come in, to look around in the cowstable and for getting me the right sizes.

Speaking about cows and soup, I’ll show you something else: a miniature shenk, for making soup. Actually it was a old blob/piece of cold porcelain (sort of clay made of cornstarch and glue), wherein I saw the shape of a shenk, and yes, and together with the bead made of bone you’ll get this silly idea.
Yes, you got easily sidetracked when you having fun in making miniatures ;O.

Here Grandma removed with a fork the beef from the bone, the beef will go back into the soup, but the bone is a treat for the dog…

My real life Grandma always cooked a big pot of soup for Sundays, so that everyone who came along for a visit could stay for lunch. There’s always meat enough on a farm, and together with fresh vegetables from the garden, she always cooked a delicious vegetables soup.
Thank you for your kind comments, have a nice week!

Hello Ilona.
Learned something new from you today. All the projects I have no time to work on, for several reasons, are now walking in soup.
I know what you mean by having to consider space in our home for our large projects and am happy for you that you can keep on display this wonderful tribute to your grandparents.
The cow made by Patricia is stunning! I love the brick floor with the channel
to keep the stable as clean as possible.
It's always a pleasure to follow your work.
Hugs,
Drora

If the lovely small of beef soup is drifting across from Grandma's farm kitchen to the stable, I can understand if that beautiful cow wants to run away. But I can see Granpa' is comforting her and reassuring her that she will not end up in the soup... :-)
All good things take time and I guess sometimes you just need to 'stir the soup and let it simmer a little longer' to get it just as you want it. What a great idea to build the farm in sections so that you can store and protect it.

Besos.

Dear Ilona, I am so glad you got "side tracked" into making the soup!!! It looks like a good soup and the dog will be so happy to have the bone! LOL! And I am very happy to see your Grandpa still has his cow herding skills! The cow is Wonderful! (I am sorry she is not making her animals any more... they were extraordinary!) You are lucky & Wise to have such a beautiful a cow for your farm! I hope the cow has made all your measurements clearer... the memory of a child is such a funny thing.... I recently went past the house I lived in when I was a young child... and all the places looked so small and close together... I remembered the space as so much bigger! I look forward to seeing your Farm grow! :):)

Loving another peep into your wonderful miniature world! Your grandparents' farm must have been a very special place for you. I have wonderful memories of the farm where I grew up, one of them is my dear gran in the kitchen making food for many. I still make bone broth soup, love your mini version! Happy Easter to you and yours. Blessings, Pam in Norway

Your farm grows very fast. Grandpa is gentle with the cow, a tender scene.

Oh my, I'm very late this time... but I got sidetracked and found myself lost in miniatures… even without a tasty soup. Ah, there's nothing like a good vegetable soup with a bit of beef in it! And I bet your grandma is a fantastic cook so Saturdays are favorite visiting days. But it made me grin how you came to this fantastic piece of meat including its later version after being in the soup; that's so you! ;O) Wonderful work and a fantastic result for a bit of playtime that was deserved after all the work on the farm and especially the decisions you had to make. Separating the farm into elements sounds like a lot of extra work - but it's great that this will allow you to display it well and dust safe (No doubt your Grandma will appreciate that). And cheers to Grandpa for saving the day - so good he was able to get the cow into the stable despite the good weather and the green grass. The beginnings of your stable are already awesome.

Hugs
Birgit (who promises to write soon)
