Herfst als de zomer net begint? / Autumn when summer just begins?

You would think that this picture was taken by satellite from outer space, showing a view of the Netherlands…

… but no, this picture is taken in my region, it shows the growth of algae on the little water that is left in this brook, caused by the severe drought. So, despite of the cooler weather we have since a week, it is still extremely dry here.

Because of the persistent drought you see here a lot of withered leaves in free nature, and also in my flower garden it seems like it is autumn.
That’s why I wanted to show you on my blog a ‘whiff’ of autumn by showing this branch of a chestnut tree, which I’ve made in miniature. Next to the green leaves I also made some withered autumnal leaves, a few loose chestnuts anda few in a husk.

(sorry, for the blurry photo I took it at a distance with my mobile phone)

This oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus) walks over the algae, as if it were a felt carpet .
On this photo you can clearly see the sand of the bottom, in normal conditions it's much deeper under the waterline, of course.
According to the weatherforecast we won’t get again any rain for this coming week, no, we will even get another heatwave :(! Therefore I will have to do ‘adjusted’ miniature work, maybe something what will go into my miniature farm? The farm has still to be build yet, but now I really have serious plans to make a start with the build this summer….;O?!
Thank you for your kind comments, have a nice week(end)!

Ilona

Dear Ilona, it is sad to see your land so dry and suffering! I hope you will soon get the right amount of rain!
Meanwhile you have made a wonderful chestnut branch and the chestnuts are awesome! And if the weather means you will start to build your Farm.... then it has a "silver lining"... all is not bad! I look forward to seeing the Farm when you build it!!!

There is always something good in bad. Getting to work on your farm while it's too hot and dry is a good thing and seeing this awesome chestnut branch and its chestnuts is even better. Fantastic and very realistic work as usual dear Ilona.
I hope the climate will soon change for better for the Netherland.
Hugs, Drora

Lieve groet, Roelie

Your arrangements are awesome… the shades of the Colours from green to yellow/orange to brown are fantastic for sure. It's always good to remind that it doesn't take much to create something stunning and beautiful - just a few branches, leaves and nuts et voilà... i. e. if all of this was made by an outstanding miniaturist. And although I too would really like to see you start working to build the farm it's still sad to see the landscape suffering so much. It's the same around here and the weather forecast is also the same - although we've had a bit of rain it wasn't enough, especially because the heavy winds dried the soil again at once. *sigh*

Hi Ilona!
We also have suffering with dry weather. Well, I love sunny and warm days but the nature would ofcourse need it's water boost by time to time. Last weekend we had our Midsummer fest. People use to go out and celebrete for nightless night. And what happened (again)?! It was raining and storming and terrible cold! We stayed insine the house! :D
I wish you the best weather for your miniature works and happy summer days! Hugs, piikko

Hi Ilona, Whaow. The first two photos of your gorgeous horse chestnut branches look like paintings, like old Dutch masterpieces. So beautiful and wonderfully made.

We in Ireland are also experiencing drought and there is talk of water restrictions soon. Its a price we pay for the glorious sunshine - but that algae looks horrible!

Carol :) x

Like Carol said we are also hot and sunny with more to come we haven't had this hot a summer for a few years :) Your work is awesome it all looks so real. I love the chestnuts. Looking forward to seeing you work on the farm.

Oh no, it can't possibly start looking like autumn, summer has hardly started! I do hope you get good rains soon.
The chestnuts are awesome, as your work always is.
