Prachtige vrolijke herfstkleuren / Gorgeous cheerful autumn colors

Een paar weken geleden vond (of kreeg) ik een paar herfst ‘producten’, die ik heb gebruikt voor een stilleven op deze foto, maar ook als voorbeeld om in miniatuur na te maken. Ik krijg op die manier heel vaak inspiratie om nieuwe miniaturen te maken, als ik die dingen vind (of krijg) ;).

A few weeks ago I’ve found (or got) some autumnal ‘products’, which I’ve used for making a still life on this picture, but also as an example for making them in miniature. That way I often get inspired for making new miniatures, if I do find (or get) those things ;).

Het takje met blauwpaarse besjes, afkomstig van een Callicarpa struik, zag ik vanuit een ooghoek, toen ik, vanwege een afgesloten straat, een omweg moest maken naar de weekmarkt. Natuurlijk moest ik écht eventjes de bosjes in 'duiken' om bij deze struik te komen en er wat takjes met hele kleine besjes af te halen. Een korte zoektocht op Google leerde me dat de naam van deze struik Callicarpa was en ik besloot een poging te doen om te proberen ze in miniatuur na te maken. Na wat oefenen heb ik eindelijk een paar takken met twijgjes vol besjes gemaakt in miniatuur, die ik ook mee had genomen naar de DHN-show in Ulft. Ze stonden in mijn display in een prachtige kan, gemaakt door Elisabeth Causeret, ze heeft jammer genoeg geen eigen website.

Helaas blijkt het onmogelijk voor mij om de diep blauwpaarse kleur goed op de foto te zetten, want in werkelijkheid ziet de kleur er echt veel beter uit.

Because of a closed road, I took another route on my way to the week market and I suddenly saw in the corner of my eye these wonderfully colored blue purple berries, hanging on branches of a further bald bush. Of course I had to take a ‘dive’ into the bushes for reaching to this bush and for cutting off a few of the twigs, which was carrying these very small berries. A quick search on Google learned me that this particular bush is named Callicarpa and I decided to give it a try for making them in miniature. After some practising I’ve finally made a few branches with twigs and berries in miniature and I took them with me to the DHN-show in Ulft. For showing them I've put them in the gorgeous jug, made by Elisabeth Causeret, unfortunately she has no website.

Unfortunately it’s impossible for me to get that deep blue purple color better on my pictures, because in reality this color is much more beautiful to see.

Hetzelfde geldt voor de dieppaarse chrysanten, die samen met anders gekleurde chrysanten in een zelfgemaakte bloemenmand staan. De meeste chrysanten en de bloemenmand zijn verkocht op de beurs, gelukkig had ik er toch nog ergens een foto van in mijn archief ;)!

The same is for the deep blue purple chrysanthemums, lying together with different colored chrysanthemums in a self made flower basket. Most of the Chrysanthemums and the flower basket are sold on the fair, thankfully I still had a picture of them in my archive ;)!

Maanden geleden kwam ik al zoekend naar planten in het plaatselijke tuincentrum (en op Google) een Croton Coldiaeum variegatum tegen. En het uiterlijk van die plant inspireerde mij om er een te maken in 1:12 en……

Months ago, whilst I was searching for plants in the local garden centre (and on Google) I saw a plant, named Croton Coldiaeum variegatum. And the appearance of this plant inspired me for making one in 1:12 and.....

Zo kon het ook gebeuren dat ik tijdens een van mijn wandelingen in mijn omgeving bijna ‘struikelde’ over een plant, die bekend staat om zijn decoratieve zaaddozen, de Judaspenning. Voor meer info: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judaspenning

Het was al een beetje laat in het seizoen om nog intacte zaaddozen te vinden, maar na wat goed zoeken vond ik er tóch nog een paar voor het maken van een goede referentiefoto. 

Hier kun je zien hoe klein die zaaddoosjes zijn: ongeveer 2-4 mm breed ;).

It also happened that I was on one of my walkings in my surroundings, when I nearly 'stumbled' across a flower, which is well known for its decorative seed pods,  the Lunaria annua. For more information see here:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunaria_annua

It was a bit late in the season for finding some intact seed pods, but after searching well I found some, which I took home for making a good reference photo. 

Here you can see how tiny the seed pods are: approximately 2-4 mm wide ;).

Tot slot moet ik (een beetje beschaamd) bekennen dat ik afgelopen weekend op de DHN-show in eerste instantie absoluut geen flauw idee had wie mijn eerste gast was. Maar ik kan je verzekeren dat dát niet lang duurde na zijn bezoek: meteen daarna vertelde iedereen me wie hij eigenlijk was.

Finally, I must confess I was a little embarrassed because at first I had absolutely no idea who my first guest was last weekend at the DHN show. But I can assure you it was not long after his visit that everyone immediately told me who he actually was.

Wat een verhaal…!! / What a story…!!

Zoals jullie waarschijnlijk wel zullen weten, had ik dit weekend mijn ‘debuut’ op de DHN show in Ulft, nou, dat was nogal een ervaring in allerlei opzichten. Ik zou zeggen neem een stoel, kop koffie/thee en wat tijd, want hier komt mijn verhaal ;)!

Na een hele drukke week van afronden van allerlei miniaturen en voorbereidend werk voor de beurs, was het afgelopen vrijdag zover: badges ophalen en mijn plekje zien te vinden in de grote SSP-hal van het uitgebreide DRU-complex. Ik had een geweldige plek daar, op de hoek van een blok met gezellige en uiterst behulpzame buren :D!!

As you all probably will know, I had my ‘debut ‘ on the DHN miniature show at Ulft and I can tell you now that it was quite an experience in many ways. All I can say: take a seat, acup of coffe/tea and some time, because here’s my story;)!

After a very busy week filled with the finishing of all of my miniatures and preparations for the fair, on Friday it was time to pick up my badges and to look for my place in the big SSP-hall of the big DRU-complex. I had a great place there, it was at a corner of a block with very kind and extremely helpful neighbours :D!!

Sorry, voor de wazige foto’s, maar de reden was dat ik geen tijd had om echt goede foto’s te maken én al mijn werk zat al achter plexiglas.

Sorry, for the blurry pictures, but I had no time for taking very good pictures and my works were already behind plexiglass, that’s why.

Mijn dochter, mijn lieve assistente, die haar moeders enthousisame goed weet te reguleren. Ik zou deze beurs absoluut niet zonder haar uitstekende hulp kunnen doen. 

My daughter, my lovely assistant, who can 'control' very well her mother's enthusiasm ;O. I absolutely couldn't do this miniatures fair without her outstanding help.

Het feest kon beginnen J! / The party could begin ;)!

Zaterdagochtend ging ik mijn stand inrichten en ik was maar nèt klaar voordat de beurs al begon. Een laatste haastig toiletbezoekje en een flinke sprint getrokken richting mijn stand. Daar kwam ik op klokslag elf uur aan en werd meteen verrast door mijn eerste bezoeker/klant, die mij (ongetwijfeld) heeft moeten zien rennen naar mijn plaats, want we arriveerden daar op precies hetzelfde moment. Wát een debuut, hè, dat heb ik natuurlijk weer ;)!?

Ik was nog buiten adem, toen hij mij al aanwees wat hij graag wilde kopen. Ik pakte de gevraagde miniaturen voor hem uit de vitrines en tijdens het inpakken vroeg ik hem terloops waar hij vandaan kwam. Hij had een Arabisch uiterlijk en sprak Engels, dus wilde ik graag weten waar mijn eerste beursgast vandaan kwam om dat aan jullie te kunnen vertellen.

Saturday morning I was organizing my stand and I was just ready before the show already began. A final hastily visit to the sanitary unit and I took a fast rush towards my stand. I arrived there exactly on the stroke of eleven o'clock and was instantly surprised by my first visitor/customer, who (without doubt) must have seen me running fast to my stand, because we arrived there nearly at the same time. What a debut, huh, why is this always happening to me ;)!?

So, I was still out of breath when he had already pointed out for me what he wanted to buy. I took the requested miniatures for him from the display cases and while I was packing them into a small box I casually asked where he came from. He had an Arabic appearance and he spoke English, so I wanted to know where my first guest of my first exhibition came from, also for telling it to you on my blog.

Mijn gast vertelde me dat zijn naam Ahmed was en dat hij uit Qatar kwam, in de buurt van Dubai, en hij vroeg of ik er ooit was geweest. Eh, nou, nee, helaas kan ik niet reizen ver buiten de grenzen van mijn eigen land, maar ik zou dat wél graag willen ;)! Maar wat een eer voor het ontvangen van zo'n speciale, buitenlandse gast voor de eerste keer in mijn kleine stand op de beurs! Ik was totaal overdonderd en compleet verrast, dat kan ik je wel vertellen :D!

My guest told me that his name was Ahmed and came from Qatar, near Dubai, and he asked if I had been there once. Eh, well, no, unfortunately I can't travel so far beyond the borders of my own country, although I really would love to ;)! But what an honor for receiving as first such a special, foreign guest at my little table on my first miniature show! I was overwhelmed and completely surprised, I can tell you that :D!

De rest van de dag heb ik enorm genoten van het ontmoeten van andere bezoekers, het was één groot feest na zo’n geweldige start van deze speciale dag voor mij! Er waren zelfs een aantal dames van de blogwereld, die gedag kwamen zeggen. The rest of the day I’ve enjoyed meeting other visitors of the show, it was one big party after such a great start of this special day for me! There were even bloggers, who came by to say hello. Ik had naast een geweldige plek ook hele gezellige en behulpzame buren, daardoor was het ook al een feest om op de beurs te mogen staan. Omdat ik inmiddels nogal wat bloemen verkocht had (ik verkocht ook losse bloemen, zodat iedereen, ook met een ‘kleine’ beurs  iets van zijn gading kan vinden), kwam ik snel zonder geschikte vazen te zitten. Ik ben bij Gerrit van Werven, http://www.miniatuurdraaiwerk.nl/  snel gaan vragen of hij iets voor me had en hij heeft ter plaatse een vaas van ebbenhout gedraaid op zijn houtdraaibank, dat was erg aardig van hem! Dankjewel Gerrit, je was een redder in mijn (vazen)nood.

In the meantime I already had sold a number of flowers (I also sell flower per piece, so that everyone, even with a 'small' purse, could buy something of her/his liking) and I ran out of suitable vases. I quickly went to Gerrit van Werven, http://www.miniatuurdraaiwerk.nl/ for asking if he had some vases for me. He did some magic on his wood lathe and handed me a wonderful vase of ebony wood, which was so very kind of him! Thank you Gerrit, you were the savior in my need for new vases.

Op zondagochtend vroeg was ik bezig om wat lege gaatjes aan het opvullen in mijn vitrines, toen ik weer werd verrast door de komst van Mr. Ahmed, dit keer vergezeld door Madelva van het Spaanse miniaturenmagazine Miniaturas. Zij werd door hem aan mij voorgesteld en ze wilde graag toestemming om mijn werk te mogen fotograferen.

Op dat moment heb ik wat moed verzameld en aan Mr. Ahmed gevraagd of ik met hem op de foto mocht, omdat hij mijn eerste gast/klant was. En ook voor het schrijven van mijn verhaal met gebruik van deze foto’s van mijn eerste miniaturenshow. Hij was zo aardig voor beiden toestemming te geven en om een paar foto’s te nemen.

Pfff, wat gebeurde er toch allemaal……ik kon (en kan nog steeds) niet bevatten wat er allemaal gebeurde in die korte tijd voor de beurs weer openging voor publiek.

Early on Sunday morning I was busy with filling some small gaps to fill in my cabinets, when I was again surprised by the arrival of Mr. Ahmed, this time accompanied by Mrs. Madelva the Spanish miniatures magazine Miniaturas. He introduced her to me and she asked permission for taking pictures my work.

At that moment I gathered some courage for asking Mr. Ahmed the question if it was allowed to take a picture of him (because he was my first visitor/customer) and putting these pictures on my blog for the story of my first miniature show. He was so kind to give me his permission and taking his time for some pictures.

Phew, what was happening ...... I could not (and still can) believe what did happen in that short time before the exhibition opened again to the public.

In de middag kwam er ook nog eens een professionele fotograaf langs van de DHN, hemeltjelief, mijn dag kon niet stuk ;). Sylvia heeft er ruim de tijd voor genomen om mijn bloemen te fotograferen. Ik hoop dat de foto's mooi geworden zijn...?

In the afternoon there was a professional photographer, named Sylvia, who took a lot of her time for taking pictures of my miniature flowers. Oh my, what a exceptional day ;).

I hope the pictures will be wonderful...?

Aan het eind van de middag heb ik gauw nog wat foto’s kunnen nemen, ik heb er totaal geen tijd voor kunnen vinden om de hele hal te fotograferen, daarvoor is het veel te groot.

At the end of the afternoon I quickly took some pictures, I really couldn’t find some time for it and besides: this hall is too big for taking pictures of the whole hall.

Ik hoop dat jullie het een beetje hebben kunnen volhouden en tot hier zijn gekomen met lezen van deze enorme blogpost, want dat zijn jullie van mij niet gewend ;O!

De komende weken neem ik rust en zal ik proberen om foto’s van miniaturen, die mee zijn geweest naar de DHN beurs, hier op mijn blog te laten zien. Dat wil zeggen: de foto’s die ik gemaakt heb, want het blijkt dat ik door de drukte vergeten ben om foto’s te nemen van een aantal nieuwe miniaturen L! En nu zijn sommigen ervan verkocht, ach, we zullen wel zien wat ik nog in m’n archief vind!

That is: the few pictures I’ve made, because it seems that due to this crowded time I’ve forgotten to take pictures of some new miniatures L! And now some of them are even sold, well, we’ll see what I can find in the archives!

Een beetje licht in donkere dagen? / A little light in darker days?

Dáár dacht ik aan toen mijn blik op deze vaas met Physalis, ofwel “lampionplant” genaamd, viel. Maar, zou het ook mogelijk zijn die plant in miniatuur na te maken…… ?

That’s what I was thinking of when my eye caught this vase with Physalis. Here, in The Netherlands, we name this plant (literally translated) “Chinese lantern”. But would it be possible to make this plant in miniature……… ?

Na een grondige studie van deze plant besloot ik het toch eens te proberen……dit was dus één lampionnetje. Jemig, nog zó veel te gaan om een tak vol te krijgen. 

Pffffff, ik leek wel gek......ben ik óók, een beetje ;)!

After I had thoroughly studied this plant, I decided to give it a try……so, this was number one of the small lanterns. Oh dear, still so many lanterns to go before I would get one branch full. 

Phiew, I must have been mad........I am, but just a little ;)!

En na één dag uitzoeken van hoe ik het zou kunnen doen……..had ik een takje vol.

And after one day of figuring out how I possibly could do this job….I had one full branch.

Deze volle vaas was het resultaat na één week ‘ploeteren’ (als ik tijd had om er aan te werken).

This full vase was the result after one week of ‘slogging’ (if I got the time to work at it).

Tijdens het maken kwam ik op het idee om ook kleurverschillen aan te brengen, zoals ook in het echte boeket te zien waren. Misschien brengt de zonnige oranje kleur van de Physalis wel een beetje kleur in de donkere dagen hier, dat deed het voor mij wél :D!

While I was making the small lanterns, I got the idea of adding more nuances in color, as you also can see in the real bouquet. So, perhaps this sunny orange color of the Physalis will bring you a bit of warm sunshine, at least it did for me :D!

De herfst is nu echt begonnen... / Autumn has really started now...

Vandaag was het behoorlijk koud in Nederland, dat was ook te merken aan de vogels die in mijn bloementuin beschutting en wat te eten kwamen zoeken. Overal werden er insecten vandaan getoverd en mijn vuurdoorn werd druk bezocht, vanwege zijn vuurrode bessen J!

Today it was quite cold in The Netherlands and this was also noticed by the birds, who came to my garden for some shelter and finding some food. They picked insects from every corner they could find and they also visited my Pyracantha, because of its flaming red berries J!

In het buitengebied zijn op dit moment veel lijsterbessen, ze zijn een voedselbron voor allerlei soorten vogels. Dat was een van de redenen om eens een lijsterbes na te maken in miniatuur. Nou, dat heb ik geweten.........dát was me een gepriegel ;)!

Here, in the countryside are lots of rowans at this moment, they're a good source of food for all kind of birds. That was one of the reasons for trying to create a rowan branch in miniature. Well, if I knew what I now know............it was quite fiddling ;)!

Ineens herinnerde ik me dat ik ergens nog een mooi vaasje had van Elisabeth Causeret, maar het opzoeken in alle rommel duurde wel eventjes ;)

Suddenly I remembered me that I had a nice small vase, it’s made by Elisabeth Causeret. But looking it up in all of the mess took me some time ;)

Nadat ik blauwe hydrangea’s had gemaakt, wilde ik er ook een paar met zacht roze bloemen maken. Eerst even goed in mijn echte tuin gekeken voor de kleuren (deze dus niet, tuurlijk ;O), toen vond ik deze slaperige gast ;)!

After I’ve made blue hydrangeas, I wanted to make some with delicate pink flowers too. First of all I took a good look in my real garden for the colors (not this one, of course ;O), when I found this sleepy guy ;)!

Vergeef me de slechte weergave van de tere roze kleur, die hier op de foto’s veel harder uitkomt dan dat ie in werkelijkheid is. Ik vermoed dat het te maken heeft met fotograferen op een nogal donkere dag, zoals vandaag……L

Please, do forgive me the poor pictures of the delicate pink color. This pink color looks on the pictures so much brighter than it is in reality. I think that it is because of taking pictures on a very dark day as it was today……L.

Op zoek naar lijsterbessen (voor een voorbeeldfoto) stond ik per ongeluk bijna op dit kleine zwammetje, feloranje stond het te gloeien op een stronk van een gekapte lariks: prachtig mooi, hè?!

On my search for rowans (for taking some pictures), I stood nearly on this small fungus, glowing bright orange it stood there on a stump of a felled larch: beautiful, isn’t it?!

Een bloemenfeetje met een doosje aquarelverf / A flower fairy with a box of watercolor paint

Tijdens mijn werk in de tuin kwam ik een prachtige hortensia bloem tegen: aan één bloemhoofd zaten verschillende kleuren bloemblaadjes. Ik besloot ze af te knippen en te fotograferen om ze aan jullie te laten zien. Het leek net of er een bloemenfeetje met haar doosje aquarelverf in mijn tuin had rondgelopen. Moeder Natuur geeft ons veel moois, je hoeft alleen maar goed om je heen te kijken om  alle moois te zien, is het niet :D?!

During my work in the garden I saw a beautiful flower of my hydrangea: there were different colors of petals at ONE flower head. I decided to cut them off and to photograph them in order to show you them. It seemed that there had been walking around a flower fairy with her tiny box of watercolors in my garden. Mother Nature gives us so much beauty, you just have to look around you to see all the beauty there is, isn’t it :D?!

Eenmaal terug, zittend aan mijn werktafel, besloot ik dus miniatuur hortensia’s te gaan maken. Eerst maar eens die met blauwe bloemen, want dat is mijn favoriete kleur J!

So after I was back, sitting at my work table, I decided to make miniature hydrangeas. At first I tried to make blue ones, because that’s my favorite color J!

Hier heb ik ze in een koperkleurige vingerhoed gezet, die ik onlangs in de kringloopwinkel heb gevonden. Ik vond de combinatie van deze kleuren mooi en warm.

I’ve put them in this copper colored thimble, which I’ve recently found in the thrift store. I love the combination of these colors, it looks nice and warm.

Deze prachtige porseleinen vaas heb ik eens gekocht op de DHN beurs in Apeldoorn, hij is beschilderd door Dieneke Boektje (http://www.hetporseleinenboek.nl/ ). 

Zij is ook weer op de DHN miniaturenbeurs in Ulft.

I’ve once bought this beautiful porcelain vase at the DHN miniature fair at Apeldoorn, it’s hand painted by Dieneke Boektje (http://www.hetporseleinenboek.nl/ ). 

She is also at the DHN miniature fair in Ulft.

Aangezien het erg tijdrovend werk is om die piepkleine bloemblaadjes te maken heb ik maar vijf blauwe bloemen gemaakt. Er is één roze hortensia bijna klaar, die heb ik maar even naast de blauwe in mijn zelfgemaakte bloemenmand gelegd.

Nou, ik ga gauw weer verder, er is nog veel te doen en de tijd dringt ;O!

Making all those tiny petals is a very time-consuming job, that's why I have made just five blue hydrangea flowers. There is one pink hydrangea almost ready, I’ve put it next to the blue one in my self made flower basket.

Well, I’m going back to work, still lots to do and time flies ;O!
