“Dozen”-dagen / “Boxes”-days

Het is tijd om jullie wat miniaturen te laten zien, die meegaan naar de DHN-show in Ulft dit weekend. Omdat ik ziek ben geweest, ben ik de afgelopen dagen erg druk geweest om mijn achterstand in miniatuurwerk in te halen…….het was tijd om allerlei "doosjes" te maken en in te richten ;)!

Allereerst mijn nieuwe showkasten, die ik zelf in elkaar gezet heb nadat er heel veel dingen verkeerd waren gegaan, maar nu zijn ze klaar voor de show!! Mijn zwager was zo lief was om ze van transparante deksels te voorzien, zodat alles nu veilig vervoerd/geshowd kan worden, dankjewel Nico voor je hulp :D!!

It’s time for showing a number of my miniatures, who will go with me to the DHN-show in Ulft this weekend. Because I've been ill, I’ve been very busy with overtaking my arrears of work in miniatures in the past week……it was time to finish all kinds of "boxes" and filling them ;)!

First of all my new show boxes, which I’ve assembled myself, after that a lot of things went wrong, but now they are ready for the show! My brother in law was so kind to provide them with transparent lids, so that now everything can be transported/shown safe, thank you Nico for your help :D!!

Een heleboel miniaturen lagen al klaar om afgewerkt te worden, sommigen gingen óók in doosjes, maar dan wel in de schaal 1:12. 

Ik ga verder met inpakken voor de beurs, dus kijken jullie zelf maar naar onderstaande foto’s van wat er zoal meegaat. Sorry, voor de donkere foto's, maar door het donkere weer van deze week zit een betere kwaliteit er nu niet in!

A lot of miniatures were lying already waiting for finishing, some of them also went in boxes, but than in scale 1:12. 

I’ll go continue with packing for the show, but you can watch some of my miniatures on the below pictures. I'm sorry for the poor quality, but at the moment we have very dark weather here in The Netherlands!

Het puttertje van Carel Fabritius… / The Goldfinch by Carel Fabritius…

…gaat met mij mee naar de DHN-show komend weekend. Ik heb geprobeerd een 3D versie van dit schilderijtje te maken én in miniatuur (schaal 1:12). Ik dacht dat het een leuk idee zou zijn, maar het was een moeilijke uitdaging. Afgelopen weekend heb ik het toch nog af kunnen maken, dus mag het mee naar de DHN-show. Wat vinden jullie er van, kan het ermee door ;)??

I thought it would be nice to do, but it was a difficult challenge. Last weekend I was able to finish it yet, so it will go with me to the miniature fair. What do you think, will it do ;)??

Voor het vervoer van het breekbare 3D werk heb ik een beschermende, houten kistje gemaakt, waarop de lijst past. Er zit geen glas voor het vogeltje, het is puur ter bescherming tijdens het vervoer!

For transporting this tiny, vulnerable 3D work I've made a tiny protecting, wooden box, whereon the frame fits. There is no glass in front of the tiny bird, it's just for protection during the transport!

Ik wil proberen nog meer dingen af te maken, zodat ik voor de rest van deze week nog meer miniatuurwerk op mijn blog kan laten zien (van wat mee zal gaan). 

Ik hoop dat het lukt, dus dit was het voor nu!

Beestje / Bug

Ongeveer twee weken geleden liep ik twee beestjes tegen het lijf: deze prachtige rups kroop midden op de asfaltweg, vlak voor ik hem passeerde met mijn fiets (zie hier voor meer info: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meriansborstel ) én een ander naar beestje………het griepvirus!

Nou, dat kwam mij wel heel slecht uit vanwege de beurs, in minder dan twee weken vanaf nu, maar ja, niks aan te doen, dus gewoon uitzieken en op tijd beter zijn. Nu moet ik dat hoestje nog kwijt zien te raken, want miniaturen maken en hoesten is geen geweldige combinatie, hè ;)?!

About two weeks ago I ran up against two sorts of bugs: this beautiful caterpillar crawled on the midst of the tarmac, just before I passed him with my bike (for more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calliteara_pudibunda AND an other bug……..the flu! Well, this was not quite what I had in mind because there’s a miniatures show, in less than two weeks from now, but you can't do anything about it, than just trying to get better in time. Now I have to get rid of the nasty cough, because making miniatures and a cough are not a good combination, isnt it ;)?!

Voor diegenen, die van plan zijn om een miniatuur van mij te willen kopen, wil ik gelijk duidelijkheid geven over de verkoop van mijn miniaturen. Ik heb voor de aanstaande DHN-show weer nieuwe miniaturen erbij gemaakt en verkoop ze tot dan uitsluitend op de beurs. Dus vooraf verkoop en/of reserveer ik niets, het spijt me, maar in april liep het hierdoor allemaal een beetje uit de hand. Bovendien zou er daardoor niets meer te showen zijn op de beurs, toch ;)? 

Ik hoop op jullie begrip hiervoor!!

Mocht je alsnog willen weten of iets na de beurs nog niet verkocht is, dan kun je mij na de show hier nog altijd over mailen.

For those, who are intending to buy a miniature from me, I want to be clear about the selling of my miniatures. For the coming miniature show (29-30 of October) I've made more/new miniatures and I only sell them on the miniature DHN-show itself. So, this means that I won’t sell before the show, nor reserving anything, I’m sorry, but in April it was quite a mess because of this. Otherwise there will be nothing left to display during the show, isn’t it ;)?

Vlak voor ik ziek werd, heb ik nog iets kunnen doen, hiervan heb ik gauw vanmiddag even foto’s gemaakt voor dit bericht. Ik hoop gauw weer opgeknapt te zijn om nog wat meer miniaturen af te kunnen maken voor de show. Voorlopig géén bloggen voor mij, maar zien dat ik nog flink wat werk kan doen ;).

Just before I got sick, I have done a little bit, so this afternoon I've quickly made some pictures for this post. I hope to get better soon again for finishing yet some more miniatures for the show. This means for now no blogging for me, but doing/finishing more miniature work;).

Nog een kastje / An other cabinet

Toen ik een maand geleden met mijn familie op stap was, zijn we ook nog een dag naar het oude stadje Hindeloopen, in Friesland, geweest. Daar hebben we Het Eerste Friese Schaatsmuseum bezocht. Het museum heeft een grote collectie schaatsen en het is zeker de moeite waard om eens te bezoeken, temeer omdat er ook een afdeling is voor traditionele Hindelooper schilderkunst. Tot mijn verrassing werden er ook miniatuur meubeltjes verkocht, die beschilderd waren met deze traditionele schilderkunst. Het is ook mogelijk om je eigen miniatuur meubeltjes daar te laten beschilderen!

A month ago, during our daytrips with family, we also visited the old town named Hindeloopen in the region Friesland, it's in the North of The Netherlands. We visited there the First Museum for Skates. This museum has a large collection of ice skates and it certainly is a visit worth, because they also have a department with objects painted by the traditional painting art, wherefore Hindeloopen is famous. To my surprise they also sold miniature furniture, which were painted with this traditional painting technique. It's also possible that you send your own miniature to the artists, for letting them paint it in this traditional way!

In het museum heb ik een meidenkastje gekocht voor mijn hulpje in de huishouding, Sientje, weten je nog wel? Hier is de link om jullie geheugen eventjes op te kunnen frissen, het is namelijk al eventjes geleden: http://minimumloon.blogspot.nl/2014/05/mislukking-failure.html

Nadat Sientje in mijn grachtenhuis is komen wonen, had ze nog geen kast van haarzelf gekregen, nu heeft meneer een meidenkast uit Hindeloopen laten komen, omdat Sientje daar familie heeft ;)!

In de 17e eeuw had Hindeloopen intensieve handelsbetrekkingen met Amsterdam, op die manier heb ik een verband gelegd met dit Friese meidenkastje en mijn Amsterdamse grachtenhuis in miniatuur.

After Sientje came to live into my canal house, she didn’t get a cabinet for herself, but now her employer managed to get a cabinet for maids from Hindeloopen, because Sientje has family there ;)!

In the 17th century Hindeloopen had intensive trade relations with the city of Amsterdam, this way I've related this Frisian maids cabinet to my canal house of Amsterdam in miniature.

Het is een groene meidenkast geworden, de eigenaresse vertelde me dat deze kleur pas zo rond 1900 gebruikt werd in de Hindelooper schilderkunst. Omdat die kleur het beste paste bij mijn bedstee op de zolder van mijn grachtenhuis, heb ik dit kastje voor Sientje uitgekozen.

It’s a green maids cabinet, the wife of the owner of the museum told me that this green color was also used around 1900 in the traditional Hindelooper painting art. Because this green color suits best with my ‘bedstee’ (a place to sleep in former times), I chose for this cabinet for Sientje.

Ze zal het kastje echter moeten delen met de dienstmeid, Marie, dat was vroeger gewoon zo ;)!

She has to share this cabinet with the maid, Marie, this was quite common in former times ;)!

Op de bovenstaande foto’s kun je het kastje wat beter zien, sorry voor de slechte kwaliteit foto’s, maar het daglicht is momenteel niet geweldig voor het maken foto’s.

On the above pictures you can see this cabinet a bit better, sorry for the bad quality of the pictures, but at this moment the daylight is not very good.

Het kastje is ook gesigneerd door de schilder....

The cabinet is also signed by the painter...

....hier kun je dat beter zien. Het zit mooi ‘verstopt’ tussen de geschilderde bloemmotieven.

Hier is definitief de herfst gearriveerd, héérlijk :D!! Nu moet ik toch echt meer tijd gaan vinden om miniaturen te maken, want dát is er door allerlei redenen behoorlijk bij in geschoten….

Here's finally arrived autumn, I LOVE it :D !! Now I absolutely have to find more time for creating miniatures, because I still haven't done much in miniature, due to all sorts of reasons.....
