Vorig jaar september had ik voor de DHN-show in Arnhem een
paar zelfgemaakte miniatuur maisstengels met maiskolven meegenomen. Het zijn
verdroogde stengels, ze zijn al aan het eind van hun groeiproces, dus klaar om
te oogsten. Op de show vielen ze nogal in de smaak (want ze waren in no time
verkocht); jammer genoeg kun je er geen miniatuur popcorn maken. Voor de
volgende show heb ik er dus 3 stengels bijgemaakt, weer mét kolven.
Voor 1:1 mais ben ik helaas allergisch, maar dit 1:12 mini exemplaar
kan zo maar op mijn hand liggen, zonder gevolgen. Je kunt dus zeggen dat ik dus
een “nieuwe soort mais uitgevonden” 😉.
For the DHN-show in Arnhem, last September, I’d took with me
a few selfmade corn stalks with corn cobs. They're withered stalks, because
they’re at the end of their growing process already, so ready for harvesting.
At the show it seemed that they were very to everyone’s taste (in no time they
were sold); unfortunately you can’t make mini-popcorn out of them. So, for the
next show I’ve made 3 new ones, again with corn cobs.
I’m allergic to 1:1 corn, but this 1:12 mini corn cob stalk
can lie on my bare hand, without consequences. So, you can say that I’ve “found
out a new type of corn” 😉.
Hier zijn mijn 1:12 maisstengels, in lengte variërend van
12-14 cm.

De maiskolven zijn gemaakt van Fimoklei / The corn cobs are made out of Fimo clay
Ik hoop dat jullie de maiskolven kunnen zien, het was
afgelopen dagen nogal donker weer, dus niet ideaal om te fotograferen bij daglicht.
Deze foto’s zijn genomen met een wat lichtere achtergrond.
Inmiddels ben ik gelukkig grotendeels van mijn akelige hoest
af en ben ik weer miniaturen aan het maken.

I hope you can see the corn cobs, because here in The
Netherlands, it was very gloomy weather, so, not ideal for photographing at
daylight. These pictures are taken with a more light colored underground.
In the meantime I happily can tell you that I got rid of my nasty cough
most of the time and I'm making miniatures again.

Dear Ilona, I am very happy to hear you are recovering your health and your ability to make all your perfect minis.... especially the kind which would be "influenced" by sneezing and coughing! The corn you have made is astonishing in its realism! We harvest the corn stalks for "decorations" late in the fall when the husks and leaves are all dried. They look just like your minis!!! I am also glad to hear the minis do not give you an allergic rash!! :):)

These are really amazing corn stalks Ilona! And the best kind when you can't have the real thing! I hope we'll see more of them adorning the farm's garden!
Prachtig mooie maiskolven... krijg er een nazomer gevoel van... de oogst naar binnen en dan siermais als decoratie voor de herfst.
Kortom zo mooi gemaakte mais dat we even wegdromen...

Hi Ilona, I am happy that you are getting better and back to minis! The corn crops are fantastic, once again, you manage to amaze me with the realism you achieve, seriously it´s very impressive. I am glad that you are not allergic to 1:12 corn because you have done a terrific job.

Hearing that you're feeling better and that you can work on miniatures again is wonderful news… At some point coughing get so nasty that one almost forgets how wonderful life is without it, don't you agree? ;O)
Your corn is absolutely stunning!!! No surprise you've sold them in the wink of an eye and these will sell once more fast at your next show. What luck that you're not allergic to miniature corn!
