Er was eens….. / Once upon a time…..

Deze woorden staan op het aankleedkussen van mijn kleinzoontje, dus dit keer wil ik jullie laten zien hoe ik het aankleedkussen voor het verwisselen van luiers heb gemaakt.

Benodigd materiaal: zijn foam board, papier, een vel opstrijkpatroon en UHU alleslijm (voor het plakken van dit plastic folie op papier).

Het plakken van de plastic folie is moeilijk, omdat het materiaal enigszins elastisch is en daardoor ‘rimpelt’ het naar alle kanten, maar aan de andere kant, nadat er een baby op het kussen heeft gelegen, zal zijn gewicht ook een indruk nalaten, niet ;O?

These words are on the cushion of the changing table of my little grandson, so this time I’ll show you how I’ve made this cushion in miniature.

Needed materials: foam board, papier, a sheet of transfer paper for ironing a pattern on fabric and UHU glue (for gluing the plastic layer of this ironing pattern on paper).

The gluing of the plastic layer is a bit tricky, because this material is a bit elastic and therefore ‘wrinkles’ to all sides. But at the other hand, after a baby has been lying on the cushion, its weight will also left an impression, isn’t it ;O?

Snijd met een hobbymesje twee stukken (3,8 x 6 cm) uit het foamboard, plak ze recht op elkaar. Ik heb 3 mm dik foam board gebruikt, dus twee lagen worden  6 mm hoog. Snijd dus ook een strip papier van 6 mm breed voor de zijkanten van het kussen.

Use a hobby knife for cutting two of the same pieces (3,8 x 6 cm) out of the foam board, glue them exactly together. I’ve used 3 mm thick foam board, so two layers will be 6 mm in height. Do also cut a strip of paper of 6 mm wide for the sides of the cushion.

Nu voorzichtig de bovenste laag foam board schuin wegsnijden, op 6 mm uit de lange kant.

Now carefully cut away the upper layer of foam board, at 6 mm from the longer side.

Meet af hoeveel lengte de strip papier (6 mm breed) je nodig hebt door het voorzichtig om het oppervlak van het kussen heen te vouwen, snijd op maat af.

Measure how much length you’ll need of the paper strip (6 mm wide), by folding it carefully around the surface of the cushion, cut at size.

Trek lijntjes met je potlood waar je het papier in vorm moet snijden en snijd het teveel weg, zie bovenstaande foto’s.

Draw lines with your pencil where you have to cut the paper in shape and cut the excess away, see above pictures.

Print het gewenste motiefje voor het kussen op een vel opstrijkpatroon. Bewaar de restanten van dit vel opstrijkpatroon.

Print the desired motive for the cushion on a sheet of transfer paper for ironing on fabric. Keep the leftovers of this transfer paper.

Van de restanten van het opstrijkpatroon heb ik de beschermlaag verwijderd, waardoor ik een soort plastic witte ‘folie’ overhield, dit heb ik gebruikt om op het foam board en het papier aan de zijkanten te plakken. Dus het kussen wordt in eerste instantie helemaal wit, als neutrale onderlaag en het helpt om de scherpe randjes van het foam board weg te werken.

From the leftovers of the transfer paper I removed the protective layer, whereby I got a sort of white ‘foil’, I used this for gluing it on the foam board and the paper ate the sides. So, the cushion will be white in first, being a neutral underlay and it helps for getting rid of the sharp edges of the foam board.

Nadat je alle randjes/overschot hebt weggeknipt, kun je het definitieve printje op het kussen plakken met alleslijm van UHU.

After you’ve cut away the edges/excess, you can glue (with UHU glue) the definitive print on the cushion.

Zo ziet het kussen er nu uit, ik heb er alvast een schone luier op gelegd, want mijn kleinzoontje heeft er maar weer eens eentje vol……hihihi. Ik heb de luiers gemaakt van een stukje dun papier uit een doosje chocolade, waarin ik een stukje papieren zakdoekje heb gelijmd. 

Een bijpassend kleurtje viltstift veroorzaakte de babypoep, dus ja, Elizabeth, er zullen wat luiers in het babykijkkastje komen ;O!

This is how the cushion looks now, I also got a clean nappy ready, because my little grandson has filled well again his nappy……hehehe. I made the nappies from a very thin piece of paper I found in a box of chocolates, wherein I glued a piece of a paper handkerchief. 

A suiting color of a felt tip pen caused the baby poo, so yes, Elizabeth, there will be some nappies in the baby roombox ;O!

Het enige andere ding wat ik deze afgelopen week nog heb kunnen doen, is het maken van een wandplank voor de babykamer, een lack plank en weer van Ikea. Hiervoor heb ik een stukje MDF gebruikt dat ik ‘gefineerd’ heb met een stukje testpapier van laminaat, zie twee blog berichten terug.

The single other thing I was still able to do in this past week, was making a wall shelf for this babyroom, it’s a Lack shelf and again from Ikea. I’ve used a piece of MDF for this which I’ve fineered with a piece of sample paper for laminate floor, see two blog posts ago.

Ik weet nog niet hoe ik de plank precies ga invullen, die keuze is aan mijn dochter.
