Wat kostte mij zoveel tijd…? / What took me so much time…?

 

Nu de elektriciteitsunit hangt, heb ik de houten ombouwkast gemaakt. Hiervoor heb ik 1 mm dik MDF gebruikt dat op een geraamte van vurenhouten latjes (4 mm) is gelijmd. De achterwand is van tevoren al geschilderd met witkalk (wat in vroeger tijden gewoon was), anders kon ik daar na plaatsing van de unit niet meer bij natuurlijk.

Het kastje in zijn geheel is 16,5 cm hoog, 4 cm breed en drie cm diep.

 

Now that the electrical unit is hanging, I've made the wooden conversion cupboard. For this job I used 1 mm thick MDF that is glued to a frame of (4 mm) pine slats. The rear wall has already been painted with whitewash (in earlier times it was common), otherwise I wouldn't have been able to reach it after the unit has been placed.

The cabinet as a whole is 16.5 cm high, 4 cm wide and three cm deep.

Om de buizen in de muur c.q. vloer te laten verdwijnen heb ik een dubbele bodem en plafond in de kast gemaakt. Het plafond paneeltje heeft waterkringen, veroorzaakt door een bloempot, die teveel water heeft gekregen……niet handig om dat te doen bij een bloempot die op een meterkast staat 😉

 

In order to make the pipes disappear in the wall or floor, I made a double bottom and ceiling in the cupboard. The ceiling panel has water marks, caused by a flower pot that has had too much water... not a good idea to do that with a flower pot that is on a electricity cupboard 😉

In het midden van de kast was vaak een klein schapje aangebracht zodat er ruimte was om doosjes zekeringen en reserve gloeilampen op te zetten. De zekeringen zijn gemaakt van die 3 mm witte kleine plastic dingetjes (zie vorige blogpost), en kettingslotjes met een tang in twee helften geknipt, en tenslotte aangestipt met zilverkleurige nagellak.

 

In the middle of the cupboard often had a small shelf so there was space to put boxes of new fuses and spare light bulbs. The fuses are made of those 3 mm white little plastic things (see previous blog post), and chain locks cutted with a plier into two halves, and finally touched up at the top with silver nail polish.

 

Hierna is de kast geschilderd in grijs, zoals zoveel kasten en andere meubelstukken in die kleur werden geschilderd. Het interieur van een eenvoudige boerderij was functioneel, niet voor schoonheid ;)

Vaak hadden deze kasten een bovendeur, die open kon en een onderdeur, die was op de kast dichtgeschroefd, vanwege het gevaar voor kleine kinderen. Maar niet in de boerderij, waar de meterkast in de “goede” kamer stond, waar toch niemand mocht komen 😉.

 

After this the cupboard was painted in grey, as so many cupboards and other pieces of furniture were painted in that colour. The interior of a simple farmhouse was functional, not for beauty ;)

Often these cupboards had an upper door that could be opened and a lower door that was screwed shut on the cupboard, because of the danger to small children. But not in the farm, where the meter cupboard was in the "state" room, where no one was allowed to come anyway 😉.

   Alles ging goed totdat ik de deur van piepkleine scharniertjes wilde voorzien, ook gekocht bij Sun, www.nalladris.nl 
Wat was het geval? Ze wilden niet blijven plakken in de daarvoor door mij aangebrachte ruimtes…wat een teleurstelling. Ik had sieradenlijm gebruikt, ook gekocht bij Sun, de ondergrond goed gereinigd, maar nee, ze deden niet wat ik wilde. Wat nu? Ik heb de scharnieren ook schoongemaakt van eventueel wat vet en daarna nog een geprobeerd: nee, het ging niet. Hoe moest ik dit probleempje aanpakken?
Na tig pogingen (lees dagen)kwam ik op het idee om de lijm op beide oppervlaktes (en op een zijde een stukje dun zijdepapier) aan te brengen, dan de kast op zijn rug te leggen met de deur dicht, dan extra potjes verf, als gewicht, erop gezet en een volle dag gewacht. De andere dag: TADAAAAAA, het werkte J De piepkleine scharniertjes aanbrengen was dus het werk wat mij zoveel tijd heeft gekost!

What happened? They didn’t want to stick in the spaces I had created for them…what a disappointment. I used jewelry glue, also bought at Sun, cleaned the surface thoroughly, but no, they didn’t do what I wanted. What to do now? I also cleaned the hinges of any grease and then tried another one: no, it didn’t work. How could I solve this problem?
After many attempts (read days) I came up with the idea to apply the glue to both surfaces and (on one side a piece of thin silk paper), then lay the cabinet on its rear side with the door closed, put extra pots of paint on it, as weight, and waited a whole day. The next day: TADAAAAAA, it worked :) So applying the tiny hinges was the job that took me so much time!

Om te voorkomen dat de kleintjes in de meterkast konden komen, werd er een hoekhaakje opgezet, dit heb ik gemaakt van dun ijzerdraad. Tenslotte werd er een deurknop (zie oranje cirkel) op gezet, een restantje van het maken van de scharnieren, ik gooi nooit zomaar iets weg 😉

 

To prevent the little ones from getting into the meter cupboard, a corner hook was put on, I made this from very thin iron wire. Finally, a doorknob (see orange circle) was put on, a leftover from making the hinges, I never just throw anything away 😉

 

In de meterkast stond ook de zwabber opgeborgen, mooi plekje ervoor….

The so called “zwabber” (kind of soft broom to remove dust from the linoleum floors) was also stored in the electricity cupboard, just the right spot for this…

En mocht er toch een ondeugend kleintje in die kamer binnen sluipen, dan zal er dit gebeuren…..boinkkkkk, AU!!! Eigen schuld, dikke bult, dat zal ze leren uit die kast te blijven 💫😇

 

And if it happened that a naughty little one does sneak into that room, then this is what will happen…boinkkkk, OUCH!!! That will learn them to stay away of that cupboard 💫😇
