My Grandma in real life was a true lover of keepsakes: old messages of the papers, feathers, flowers, old letters and so on. A few of those things were in the old bible, like the peacock feather I told you about it in my previous blog post. Because I gave her an antique linen cupboard, I had to make her a wooden box for storing all of it in. Since a few years I already had two veneered miniature wooden boxes among my self made miniatures, so they only needed a make-over and a bit more ‘new’ content.

At the top left on the photo, you can see in this wooden box old earrings with pearl drops and a ring. In the compartment at the top right: a pocket watch, a broken pearl necklace, a Lover's Eye jewel and a paper knife with a mother-of-pearl handle. In the compartment right below there are some other memories, such as a piece of rock crystal, two (real) tiny sea shells, a spike of a sea urchin and some silver coins. In the last compartment on the below left you find old letters and old keys.

The only thing I added tot his box is the eyeglasses (website: Nalladris), ofwhich I made the glasses by using just a tiny drop of transparent nailpolish. The paper knife is also bought from Nalladris, I’ve only added acrylic paint, in mother of pearl color, to the handle.

I’ve searched on the internet for notifications of death and ‘normal’ letters, which I’ve converted these into 1:12 scale and printed them out (for personal use).
Tied them together with a very small piece of lace they go into one of the drawers of the antique linen cupboard, and according to old custom: notifications of death on the leftside and the ‘normal’ post at the right side.

The other wooden box contains sewing utensils and related items. I started with the self made darning ball (also used for darning socks), for giving it an older and more wooden look, wherefore I simply used a few very thin layers of woodstain.

The needle holder, from one of my previous blog posts, is first stained, than I’ve used it with a bronze metallic paint to give it a metal look.

There are also buttons, press buttons (black), spools of thread, scissors and a piece of old lace. Under the lid with the enamelled violet as a handle (= earring decorated with nail polish), some keys are in the compartment. I also added glasses (from Nalladris) to this box, because my grandmother had very bad eyes because of her diabetes.

The needle holder is lying here on a crushed grain of bread during my lunch....just to show how small it is.
The wooden box is 22 x 22 mm square.

The wooden sewing box is tucked away on top of the antique linen cupboard, behind the porcelain vases. This set of originally 5 vases is commonly standing on top of this sort cupboards in real life.
I haven’t found yet this sort of original set of porcelain vases, in miniature, I also guess that would also be far too expensive for me if I did.

This set of vases is bought from/made by Cocky Wildschut, she is often to be found at miniature fairs with her beautiful work.
However, my mini Grandma is more than happy with this luxury set, it’s something my real life Grandma never would have had.

Nu is mijn antieke Twentse linnenkast in miniatuur écht af!

Now my antique Twentse linen cabinet in miniature is really finished! The doors will now close and they retain all the wealth and treasures, in mini, for the next generation ;).
Thank you for your kind comments, I wish everyone a very nice week!

Dear Ilona, the treasures you have made for your mini Grandma are just beautiful. The boxes are themselves wonderful, but the detail and thought you have put into the contents is just so lovely. The tiny size of the needle holder and darning egg is something I almost find it hard to get my head around.
Have a lovely week.
Hugs, Anna

Dear Ilona, This is not only going to be an heirloom for your family but a fantastic example of Dutch tradition. Your stunning work and the way you share it with step by step photos and explanations is what makes it a pleasure to await each of your posts.

It's a pity and almost a shame to close the doors of that stunning cabinet hiding all those wonders that are inside of it - but at least there's a bit of comfort: We all know it's there! ;O) It's amazing that even two keepsake boxes can become treasure chests when made and filled by an outstanding miniaturist. You did not forget any detail - the damaged pearl chain made me smile. And once more it was fun to learn about Dutch habits, I've never heard of keeping the death announcements at the other side from the normal letters. And it was completely new to me that there were five special vases on the top of a cabinet. But even with your three it looks terrific! Wonderful work - and I'm so happy for your mini Grandma. This lovely lady deserves to be spoiled like this!

Oh Ilona, the details you have included in those tiny boxes are just beyond belief!!! The needle case! The eye glasses! The letter opener and the buttons and the tiny shells!!! I am just amazed at it all! Your ability to make all the pieces in such perfect tiny scale is what sets your work apart!!! I Love every single thing about this project... and even though it is all kept "safe" for the next generation... I will miss seeing more updates. :(
Your work is so inspiring.... I am dazzled every time I visit your blog! :):)

Oh Ilona, those treasure wooden boxes are precious and sooo beautiful. I nearly stopped breathing when I saw them, they are just wonderful with all those little objects. How can you make such tiny, delicate yet beautiful things? I am amazed by your talent. Your antique linen cabinet is a treasure and deserves the most special place. Your mini grandma will be so happy.

I am SO GLAD that you allowed us to peek inside not only inside each drawer of your INCREDIBLE linen cupboard with the old letters, lace, and filled keepsake box, but also see the entire contents of the upper shelves too!
The folded and embroidered linen stacks themselves are simply Marvellous but the fact that you have included the open Bible with the peacock feather, the Sewing box filled with the accompanying minuscule accessories all tucked away so carefully, with everything in its proper place even where no one other than yourself can see it, and topped off with those lovely blue and white porcelains, makes this entire piece an heirloom!
Ilona, your finished cupboard is- a Mini MASTERPIECE!

I second that. It is a masterpiece!

I loved the final chapter of your linen cupboard series, Ilona, and I'm learning lots about European customs as a bonus. Your tiny notions boxes are so adorable.
