Waarom ik die uitnodiging kreeg? Nou, dat zal ik vertellen…..

Last week I got an invitation for attending an exhibition about the Achterhoekse poet / agriculturist/ composer A.C.W. Staring.

Why did I receive this invitation? Well, I will tell you…...

Ongeveer 12 jaar geleden kreeg ik een verzoek van een Oudheidkundige Vereniging hier in de buurt. Zij vroegen mij of ik het huis, genaamd de 'Bringenborg', kon nabouwen (in schaal 1:24), waar in 1767 de Achterhoekse dichter/landsman/componist A.C.W. Staring was geboren.

Maar waarom vroeg ik je om je bril even op te poetsen? Nou, er waren alleen wat wazige foto’s uit het gemeentearchief en wat tekeningen van een verbouwing van de 'Bringenborg' uit 1926 als documentatie materiaal beschikbaar. Het was dus een hele puzzel dit alles uit te zoeken om dat huis in miniatuur na te kunnen bouwen.

About 12 years ago I got a request from an archaeological association here in the region. They asked me if I could rebuild (in 1:24 scale) the house, called the 'Bringenborg', where the poet/agriculturist/composer A.C.W. Staring was born in 1767. 
But why did I ask you to clean your glasses? Well, there only were a few vague pictures from the municipal archives and some drawings of a renovation of the 'Bringenborg' in the 1920s. So it was quite a puzzle to sort out everything and to be able to build this house again in miniature.

De 'Bringenborg' stond tot 1971 (in dit jaar is het huis gesloopt) in Gendringen in de Achterhoek in de provincie Gelderland.  

In die tijd werden er in Nederland veel monumentale gebouwen gesloopt, omdat er geen geld en/of interesse was voor herstel van deze oude gebouwen, terwijl ze wel belangrijk waren voor de geschiedenis van de betreffende streek. Tegenwoordig is dat gelukkig veranderd en zijn we wat zuiniger op ons culturele erfgoed.

Until 1971 the ‘Bringenborg’ stood (in this year the house was demolished) in a village called Gendringen in the Achterhoek, this is a beautiful region in the province of Gelderland in The Netherlands.

In those times a lot of monumental buildings were demolished in The Netherlands, because there was no money and/or interest for rehabilitation of those old buildings, while they were so important for the history of that particular region. Nowadays this has fortunately changed and we are more mindful of our cultural heritage.

Op bijna dezelfde plaats, waar de ‘Bringenborg’ stond, werd na de sloop een bibliotheek gebouwd.

Sinds de onthulling in 2002 van een gedenkteken voor de dichter A.C.W. Staring staat in deze bibliotheek het miniatuur huis van de ‘Bringenborg’, dat door mij gebouwd is, permanent tentoongesteld. Het mooie hiervan is dat het miniatuur huis maar zo’n 20 meter van de plaats verwijderd staat, als waar het originele huis tot aan de sloop in 1971 heeft gestaan.

After the demolition of the 'Bringenborg' and almost on the same place, there was built a library.

In 2002 there was unveiled a memorial in front of this library to the poet A.C.W. Staring and one year later the miniature house of the 'Bringenborg ', which was built by me, is permanently placed inside the library. The beauty of this is that the miniature house stands about 20 meters away from the exact place, as where the original house stood until its demolition in 1971.

Nu zag ik dus na 11 jaar mijn miniatuur huis terug en ik was nieuwsgierig hoe het er na zoveel jaar uit zou zien. Het zag er prima uit en het was mooi om het weer eens terug te zien: alle kleine details waren nog precies zo als ik het me herinnerde. Ter bescherming zit er een op maat gebouwde plexiglazen koepel overheen en het huis heeft zijn eigen stabiele tafel, beiden zijn op maat gemaakt door leden van de Oudheidkundige Vereniging. Beiden zijn onontbeerlijk voor een goede bescherming van een miniatuur huis en na zoveel jaar is gebleken dat het uitstekend heeft werkt!

Die plexiglazen koepel beschermt het huis dus tegen stof en in combinatie met een mooie plaats uit het directe zonlicht en niet naast de centrale verwarming is het huis prima bewaard gebleven tot nu toe.

So, after 11 years I saw back my miniature house and I was curious how it would look like after so many years. It looked great and it was nice to see it again: all the small details still were exactly as I remembered. For protection there is a custom made plexiglass dome over the house and the house has its own solid table, both are custom made by members of the Archaeological Society. Both are essential for proper protection of a miniature house and after so many years it has shown that it has worked indeed excellent!

The plexiglass dome protects the house from its worst enemy: dust and thus combined with a wonderful place away from the direct sunlight and not next to the central heating, the house remained well preserved until now.

Jammer genoeg kon ik geen goede foto’s nemen van het huis tijdens de expositie, omdat het dus onder die plexiglazen kap staat en dat geeft te veel reflectie om details en de tuin goed te kunnen fotograferen.

Unfortunately I couldn't take good pictures of the house during the exhibition, as it was under the plexiglass dome and it gave too much reflections for photographing the details of the house and garden.

Thuis gekomen ben ik dus in mijn eigen naslagwerk gaan kijken voor wat mooie foto’s, maar ik kwam er achter dat ik die foto’s met een oud fototoestel had genomen. Ik had toentertijd nog geen digitale camera :(!

Ik zal jullie wat foto’s laten zien, waarvan dus de kwaliteit niet zo best is en die ik heb genomen tijdens de bouw van het miniatuur huis. Het was ook jammer dat er niets van het interieur bekend was, anders had ik in het huis ook het interieur na kunnen bouwen.

Het is jammer dat ik geen goede foto’s heb van de tuin naast het huis, maar ik vermoed dat de kwaliteit niet goed was en ze daarom nooit zijn afgedrukt. Bovendien, wie wist er 11 jaar geleden nu dat ik ooit eens een blog zou schrijven over dit huis???? Ik niet ;)!

So after I got home I've looked for some nice pictures in my own dossiers, but I found out that I had taken those pictures with an old camera. At that time I still had no digital photo camera :(!

I will show you some pictures, which I took during the build of the miniature house and because of the old camera the quality is not that good. It also was a pity that there was too less information about the interior of the house, otherwise I also would attempted to rebuild the interior too.

Such a pity that I have no good pictures from the garden next to the house, but I think at that time the quality of those pictures wasn't good enough and therefore they were never printed out. Moreover, who knew (11 years ago) that I would write a blog about this house now?? I didn't knew ;)!
