Boekenwurm? / Bookworm?

Nee, ik ben niet echt een boekenworm, maar ik vind ze soms wel: interessante boeken..….en dat vind ik dan geweldig :D!

No, I am not really a bookworm, but sometimes I find them: interesting books……and I love it : D!

Af en toe ben ik in de kringloopwinkel en kom er niets tegen wat ik kan gebruiken of leuk vind, maar soms heb ik een beetje geluk. Een paar weken geleden was ik er weer eens aan het rondneuzen en vond ik op de afdeling met serviesgoed wat decoratiemateriaal van hout, in bosjes gebonden. Het waren lange dunne repen van vermoedelijk lindehout, maar het kan ook iets anders zijn. Er lagen wat gekleurde bossen, maar toevallig ook een van “blanco” hout. Die lag daar gewoon te wachten, totdat ik langskwam :D!!

Eigenlijk wil ik ook altijd rondsnuffelen op de boekenafdeling van deze winkel (vaak zit er niets bij wat ik interessant vind), dit keer vond ik echter een mooi boek dat over manden gaat. Erin staan allerlei manden uit verschillende landen beschreven, zo ook de typische houten plukmand uit Sussex.

Sometimes I visit the recycling store and I don’t find anything I can use or something I like, but occasionally I have a bit of luck. A few weeks ago I was in the store nosing around and I found on the department of tableware some decorative wooden material, bound in bunches. Probably it are long thin slices of basswood, but it also can be an other kind of wood. There were some colored bunches, but coincidentally there was one of “blanco” wood. It just was laying there, waiting for me :D!!

Actually I always want to visit the department of books of this store (often there are no interesting books for me), but this time I found a wonderful book about baskets. In the book are described all kinds of baskets, also a typical wooden basket from Sussex.

De combinatie van het vinden van de dunne reepjes decoratiemateriaal en dit boek leverde dus een mooie nieuwe miniatuur op: deze mand uit Sussex. Er staan overigens geen patronen in dit boek, dat moet je zelf dan uitvinden ;). 

Het is de eerste houten mand, die ik gemaakt heb en hij is misschien niet perfect, maar ik ben heel blij met mijn nieuwe mand. Waarin je onder andere bloemen kunt doen na het afsnijden in de tuin, rommel in kunt bewaren, tuingereedschap in kunt doen et cetera, oneindig veel mogelijkheden dus.

So the combination of finding these thin slices of decoration material and this book results in a wonderful new miniature: this basket from Sussex. Moreover there are no patterns in this book, that is something you have to find out yourself ;).

This is the first one I’ve made and it is not perfect, but I am very happy with my new basket. Wherein you can put flowers you’ve cut in the garden, you can store your garden equipment in it or all kind of bits and pieces et cetera, so endless possibilities.

Voor het vormen van de manddelen, de rand en het hengsel heb ik verrassingseieren en plastic doppen gebruikt, die hadden het juist formaat voor deze mand. Daar omheen heb ik het geweekte, natte lindehout gevormd en vastgemaakt met van die grote post-elastieken. Hiervoor heb ik inmiddels de postbode ”lastiggevallen” ;)!!

For modelling the parts of the basket, the handle and the edge I have used surprise eggs (normally it contains candy for kids) and plastic caps used, which had the correct size/diameter for this basket. Around these plastic eggs I have shaped the soaked, wet lime wood and I have fastened the wood with those great post elastics (I hope this is the correct translation?). For getting these elastics I have "harassed" the mailman ;)!
