Blauw en geel / Blue and yellow

On a lovely sunny day I’ve made a tiny vase of yellow colored Fimo clay, so the sun is just in this tiny vase ;). After I edited it with the crackle medium, I thought that this tiny vase should also get a sunny flower too. And because blue is my favorite color, I immediately thought of my own RL Agapanthus, who stands outside in a flower pot during summer.

Unmanufactured tiny vase and the result (greatly enlarged) after using acrylic paint and the crackle medium.
The tiny vase is 11 mm in square.

Whilst I was busy with making an Agapanthus flower, I thought of the color wheel and why this sunny yellow fits so lovely with the heavenly blue: yellow and blue are complementary colors and for that reason they do intensify each other. More information about the color wheel: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_wheel

After five lovely and sunny days it’s dark and cold again outside. But indoors I still enjoy this little ikebana arrangement. So, here is my whiff of summer for you all ;)!
Thanks for your lovely comments and I wish you all a nice week!

Herbarium doos / Herbarium box

In my high school days all pupils, who followed biology lessons, had to compose a herbarium. Unfortunately my own herbarium of that time has gone lost. But after I was in my garden where I found an old withered chestnut, I decided to make that chestnut in miniature. But what can you do with just one chestnut ......well, you also create of Fimo clay and thin paper: a husk, a few leaves and a sprig, and so on ;)!

Because of the thickness of the chestnuts and husk, I didn't want to glue them in a herbarium book. I recall me that in that time it was also a problem to get this job done neatly.
So, I've made a frame of 3 cm x 4 cm, wherein on a background of paper, in order to glue it all neatly.
This way it became a 3D painting, but it was still vulnerable for damaging. What to do now??

After a long search on the internet I came across a herbarium box, personally I haven't heard before of this. I thought it was a good idea for, after my toil to make this little stuff, to store it safely away. So, I’ve made a sort of tray under the frame and I’ve painted the whole frame and tray black.

Here, you can see it all better (pictures are greatly enlarged!!).

I want to take the herbarium box with me to the coming DHN-show in April. The thing is: will I glue everything down in the tray, so it can be hanged on a wall? Or will I let it all loose, so it can be placed open on a table, or so?? What do you think?
Thank you for your comments, have a nice week!

Een makkie..? / A piece of cake..?

The baking of my miniature cake started with the cap of a cardboard milk carton. I just wanted to throw it away in the bin, when I thought that the shape of this lid looked like a oven dish for baking quiches. From there it was still a little step to a cake pan, for baking a cake and together with a bit of air drying clay my mini cake was born/baked ;)!

First of all I had to make a cake pan and after a quick search on the internet I came across Tanja, of SugarCharmShop, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VS8_NhzjRGI
After the making, while I gave the cake pan a bit color, an other idea came to me of doing something different than usual, namely baking a black burnt cake ;D!

This way you don’t see anything special at the cake, but….

….if you take the cake out of the cake pan, the bottomside is not in a good condition J.

Here I’ve cut off in bits and pieces the black burnt bottom of the cake, so I can still eat the better half of the cake. So, baking a miniature cake is not always a piece of a cake, I know better now ;)!
Thank you for your comments, have a nice week(end)!

The day before yesterday I placed a picture on my Facebook page with the question if someone knew what it could be…..:D! My niece is very clever, because she came very close to the answer. She asked if it was a crackled object and if the object was a vase….?
Well, she was very close to what kind of miniature object it was ;)!

While I was searching for something else in one of my drawers, I found back a very old small container of crackle varnish. It was almost totally dried in, but on the bottom there was just a little bit that was still good enough  for use. This find gave me the idea for creating a small miniature vase of Fimo clay, and in combination with the crackle varnish this vase would have the look of a raku fired jar for a Japanese ikebana flower arrangement.
On Google I’ve searched for an example arrangement and I’ve tried to copy this small jar in 1:12 miniature scale.

voorkant in 1:12 schaal / front view 1:12 scale

achterkant in 1:12 schaal / rear view in 1:12 scale

For this special jar I’ve made a rose and together with a winding willow it looks like this:

The whole is very tiny, so I can’t hold it well between my forefinger and thumb, without crushing it. That’s why it has a black dish, as a plant coaster, just for making a good picture.
Now you can see how tiny the whole ikebana arrangement is ;).
Thank you for your comments, wishing you all a nice week.

Geluk / Luck

Luck is in many things, there are days you are lucky and some days you aren’t, that’s life, isn’t it?!
On Valentine’s Day I was so lucky for being one of the 5 winners in a giveaway of my blogfriend Birgit, http://biwubaer.blogspot.nl/2016/02/lucky-am-valentinstag.html  who (in the miniatures blog world) doesn’t know her ;)?!

Birgit had a special giveaway: a miniature corner. This was already special, but Birgit wouldn't be Birgit, if she hadn't connected one special condition at this giveaway. The persons, who would win one of those corners, should send her a picture of the corner after it's finished, for showing them all on the blog of Birgit: NICE!! And do you know what was even more nice: I won one of them :D!!
Yesterday evening the package of Birgit was delivered, I’ve unwrapped it immediately……with as result black hands (but I didn’t notice this directly)!
This corner is namely laser cutted and therefore those edges often stain black. So, after I went fetching my snow white BiWuBear, named Schepje, for making some funny pictures, I saw that my hands were black as coal. The result was that I had to soap Schepje, before washing him with hands full of fresh snow until he was clean again ;)!

I comforted him with a piece of the yummy Marzipan, which came also in the box and he enjoyed seeing Rosey, she is one of his relatives, at the beautiful greeting card, which is self made by Birgit.
Birgit, I’ll see if I can find a good destiny for this corner, thank you very, very much for this lovely prize :D!!

I was also lucky for being published in the Dolls House Nederland magazine, in the edition of March, it's an article and there are pictures of my miniature work. Some of you noticed this already and named it in your comment on my blog, thank you all.
As you probably know, in the meantime I’m very busy with making new miniatures, because I’ll attend again the DHN-show in Ulft, in the weekend of 2-3 April.
I hope, just like in last October, you’ll come by for saying ‘hello’. It was so nice to see some of you in person  J!
As always I thank you all for your nice comments. I wish you all a lovely week :D!

I bet it had an unpleasant smell…

A fire basket of the 17th/18th century could have two meanings: a metal holder for red hot coals, and secondly a wicker basket of white willow, wherein was placed a bowl containing hot coals. Linen and clothing would have dried on this fire basket, but also the diapers of the baby were dried on this basket. I’ll bet that this basket should have had an unpleasant odor in that time ;)!
More information about the 17th century fire basket, see here:

I wanted this special fire basket with accessories for my own miniature canal house and I thought let's try to make one, this is the result. The basket is entirely weaved with paper covered wire and thin cotton thread.
So, some of you were very close to the solution of my WIP in my last blog post :D!

I gave the fire basket some spots with water diluted acrylic paint. Because it seems to me that this kind of baskets, especially the white ones, wouldn’t stay clear white, as they were intensively used in that time ;).

For the diaper I’ve used a tiny piece of very thin cotton and I’ve moistened it with water, then it's modelled in shape, I've draped it on the basket and left it to dry. Thankfully, my new ‘diaper’ has a fresh smell ;)!

The other tiny piece of fabric should propose a piece of fabric/clothing. I’ve used some stamps with floral motifs and permanent ink, then I printed a dessin on the thin cotton. Immediately after the printing with stamps I’ve moistened the fabric with water, next thing was wrapping the basket in plastic foil and I’ve draped the fabric on top and left it to dry…….like a wet diaper :D!

The small bowl for the hot coals are made of Fimo clay and then edited with acrylic paint and glaze.

A warm welcome to my new followers, thank you all for your nice comments.
I wish you all a nice weekend J!

It still takes some time before spring really arrives…

…. so I treat myself on a whiff of spring mood in mini.
Firstly I’ve made these two tulips with bulb for the coming DHN-show at 2-3 april in Ulft.
Years ago I’ve found in the local craft shop a tray full of hodgepodge. Therein were the glass no hole beads, which are now at the bottom of the vase.

Sorry, for the underexposed pictures, it was very dark and rainy weather here…..again!

A few weeks ago I also started making a miniature bonsai on a flat dish. I’ve bought it on the miniature fair of Finnicole Miniatures, their website: http://www.fennicole-miniatures.nl/
Last year I’ve bought a few teeny tiny branches of a RL bonsai in the flower shop, here in the village. I thought it would be fun to make a Prunus bonsai in miniature. Well, that was quite a chore, you know, there go lots of petals on one bonsai. You nearly can’t see it, but there are much more than 100 petals, then I stopped counting ;)!

At the last picture (no, this one is not blurry, but just extremely greatly enlarged ;)) of a WIP belongs a question: what is it??
Thank you for your nice comments, I wish you all a nice (Valentine) weekend :D!
