Een vuur mand uit de 17e/18e eeuw
kon twee betekenissen hebben: een metalen houder voor hete kolen, en ten tweede een gevlochten
mand van witte wilgentenen, waarin een vuurtest met gloeiende kooltjes werd
gezet. Op die vuurmand kon linnengoed en kleding gedroogd worden, maar óók de
luiers van de zuigeling werden hierop gedroogd. Ik durf te wedden dat er aan
die mand vast wel een luchtje zat destijds ;)!

A fire basket of the 17th/18th century could have two
meanings: a metal holder for red hot coals, and secondly a wicker basket of white willow,
wherein was placed a bowl containing hot coals. Linen and clothing would have
dried on this fire basket, but also the diapers of the baby were dried on this
basket. I’ll bet that this basket should have had an unpleasant odor in that
time ;)!

Voor mijn eigen miniatuur grachtenhuis wilde ik deze vuurmand met toebehoren eens proberen na te maken, dit is het resultaat. De mand is geweven van papier bedekt ijzerdraad (bloemendraad) en dunne katoendraad.
Dus een aantal van jullie hebben bijna geraden wat het werk-in-uitvoering van mijn vorige blogpost was :D!
I wanted this special fire basket with accessories for my
own miniature canal house and I thought let's try to make one, this is the
result. The basket is entirely weaved with paper covered wire and thin cotton
thread.
So, some of you were very close to the solution of my WIP in
my last blog post :D!
Ik heb de vuurmand hier en daar een paar vlekjes gegeven met
water verdunde acrylverf. Want het lijkt mij dat dit soort manden, vooral de witte,
niet helemaal helderwit zouden blijven bij intensief gebruik ;).
I gave the fire basket some spots with water diluted acrylic
paint. Because it seems to me that this kind of baskets, especially the white
ones, wouldn’t stay clear white, as they were intensively used in that time ;).
Voor de luier heb ik een lapje heel dunne katoen gebruikt en
dat bevochtigd met water, waarna het in
model gedrapeerd op de mand is gedroogd. Gelukkig ruikt deze ‘luier’ lekker
fris ;)!
For the diaper I’ve used a tiny piece of very thin cotton
and I’ve moistened it with water, then it's modelled in shape, I've draped it
on the basket and left it to dry. Thankfully, my new ‘diaper’ has a fresh smell
;)!
Het andere lapje moet een stukje textiel/kleding
voorstellen, ik heb een stukje dunne katoen bedrukt met stempels in
bloemmotieven en permanente inkt. Direct na het stempelen wat vochtig gemaakt
en nadat ik de mand beschermd had met plastic folie, heb ik het stukje stof er
ook op gedrapeerd en laten drogen……als ’n natte luier :D!
The other tiny piece of fabric should propose a piece of
fabric/clothing. I’ve used some stamps with floral motifs and permanent ink,
then I printed a dessin on the thin cotton. Immediately after the printing with
stamps I’ve moistened the fabric with water, next thing was wrapping the basket
in plastic foil and I’ve draped the fabric on top and left it to dry…….like a
wet diaper :D!
De vuurtesten zijn gemaakt van fimo klei en daarna bewerkt
met acrylverf en vernis.
The small bowl for the hot coals are made of Fimo clay and
then edited with acrylic paint and glaze.
