De tijd vliegt!! / Time flies!!

De zomervakantie is hier afgelopen, de kinderen gaan weer naar school en sinds vandaag ben ik weer aan het werk om nieuwe miniaturen te maken. Omdat ik slecht tegen de hitte kan, heb ik erg genoten van het heerlijke, koele zomerweer. Tja, daarover zal niet iedereen het met mij eens zijn...... ;O?!

Summer vacation is over, at least here in our region, the children are going back to school again and since this morning I’ve started working again at miniatures. Because I can’t stand the summer heat, I’ve enjoyed much of this cooler type of summer weather, which we’ve had here. Well, I guess that not everyone will agree with me about this....... ;O?!

Wat ik zoal gedaan heb gedurende deze zomervakantie? Nou, om diverse redenen heb ik eigenlijk niet veel aan miniaturen gewerkt, maar er liggen nog wel wat miniaturen te wachten op afwerking.

What I’ve done during this summer vacation? Well, due to all sort of reasons, I haven’t worked pretty much on miniatures, but there are still some miniatures in awaiting for their finishing touch.

Toch heb ik wel iets nieuws om jullie te laten zien, al zijn deze Cherokee rozen vorige winter al gemaakt. Anya Stone vroeg mij, via Facebook, om wat van deze soort rozen te maken.

But I still have something new to show to you, although I’ve made them last winter: Cherokee roses.  Anya Stone asked me if I could make her some of these sort of roses.

Ik had echter nog nooit van deze rozensoort gehoord, dus moest ik het doen met de foto’s die ik op het internet heb gevonden. Anya heeft deze Cherokee rozen gebruikt als display voor haar aardhommelkoninginnen (Bombus terrestris), ze heeft prachtige foto’s van onze samenwerking op haar website gezet, en wel hier:

Ik vond het een hele eer dat Anya mij heeft gevraagd om deze rozen voor haar te maken en ik heb haar toestemming gekregen om hier (op mijn blog) bekend te maken dat je ook zelf deze aardhommels kunt gaan maken n.a.v. een tutorial, die op haar website staat. 

Ga met je cursor over de foto met de aardhommelkoningin en er verschijnt een link naar de tutorial, die je kunt downloaden waarmee zelf deze koninginneaardhommel kunt maken.

But I’d never heard before about this sort of roses, so I had to work with pictures I’ve found on the internet. Anya has now used these Cherokee roses in a display for her Queen Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris), she made gorgeous pictures of our collaboration, you can find them at her website:

I think for me it was a huge honour that Anya asked me to make these roses for her and I’ve got her permission to announce here (on my blog) that you can also make yourself these Queen Bumblebees, using the tutorial, which is on her website.

Ik hoop dat jullie allemaal een fijne zomer hebben gehad?? Ik ben bang dat het nog eventjes zal duren voordat ik echt weer helemaal terug ben in de blogwereld, want ik ben momenteel erg druk in het “gewone leven”, tja, wie is dat niet ;)?!

Hommeles in de Hosta’s / Hostas in odds with snails

Mijn Hosta’s zijn vorig jaar belaagd door een heel legioen aan tuinslakken en dit jaar is het al niet veel beter met ze gesteld. Zo jammer, want het zijn zulke mooie decoratieve planten, vandaar het idee om er dan maar eentje in miniatuur te maken ;)!

Last year my real Hostas were attacked by a whole legion on garden slugs, and this year the situation isn't much better. That's such a pity, because they're such beautiful decorative plants, hence the idea of making one in miniatuur ;)!

Bovenstaande foto’s zijn van mijn werk in uitvoering, ze staan in een mooi potje dat is gemaakt door Marike Schenning. Maar terwijl ik aan het werk was, bedacht ik me dat Hosta’s echt tuinplanten zijn en eigenlijk zelden binnen staan….

At the above pictures you can see my work-in-progress, I've temporarely put them in a wonderful pot, which is made by Marike Schenning. But whilst working at them, I thought that Hostas are true garden plants and actually they’re rarely indoors…

….dus dan toch maar een mooi klein terracotta potje opgezocht.

…so, I looked for a wonderful small terracotta pot.

De kleine bloemblaadjes hebben een zachte blauw/lila kleur en dit plantje vroeg om heel veel zelf getekende en ingekleurde blaadjes. Kortom, het was best veel werk om het te maken ;O.

The tiny petals have a soft blue/lilac color and this plant asks for a lot of (by hand) drawn and colored leaflets. In short, it was a lot of work to make it ;O.

Vanochtend was ik door het bewolkte weer in staat om wat foto’s te maken van mijn miniatuur Hosta, maar terwijl ik het voorzichtig oppakte, zag ik dat ‘iemand’ mij voor was geweest…..

This morning it was cloudy weather thus I was able to make some pictures of my miniature Hosta, but while I carefully picked it up, I saw that ‘someone’ has already been there…..

….een slijmspoor liep van onderaan de bloempot naar bovenaan de rand en als je naar het blad kijkt, weet je al wie mijn plantje heeft bezocht. 

Ik heb de dader echter niet kunnen vinden, dus….die slak had mazzel ;)!

….a slimy track went from the underside of the flower pot up to the edge at the top and if you look well to the leaf, you know who has visited my plant. 

I didn't found the perpetrator, so….it's a lucky snail ;)!

Tijdens de hittegolf was hier in de regio een groot gebrek aan water in de vrije natuur, daarom vulde ik elke dag een grote tuinschaal met een laagje water. Vanaf dag één had ik meteen een vaste badgast, die ik in een onbewaakt ogenblik op de foto heb gezet :)!

During the heat wave there was a large lack of water in free nature, her in my region, so, every day I filled a large garden bowl with a small amount of water. From day one I immediately had a regular bathing guest, who I photographed in an unguarded moment.

Hittegolf… / Heat wave…

Afgelopen week was het zo heet dat de lijm vloeibaar bleef, dus kon ik helaas niet zo veel aan mijn miniatuurwerk doen. Pas toen vrijdag er koelere lucht ons land instroomde, kon ik mijn laatste werk afmaken: de tweede tak van mijn miniatuur Gloriosa superba.

Last week there was a heat wave here, in The Netherlands, it was so hot that the glue stayed liquid, so I couldn’t do much of miniature work. Finally on Friday, when much cooler air entered our country, I could finish my last job: the second branch of my miniature Gloriosa superba.

Deze laatste tak heeft zelfs twee bloemen en twee knoppen, waardoor de vaas van Elisabeth Causeret mooier wordt gevuld, dan met maar één takje Gloriosa ;).

This last branch has even two flowers and two buds, whereby the vase, made by Elisabeth Causeret, is filled even more nice, than with just one branch of Gloriosa ;).

Het was weer ontzettend veel werk om meeldraden en stampers in miniatuur te maken, maar ik ben tevreden over het resultaat.

Again, it was alot of work to make those teeny tiny stamens and pistils in miniature, but I’m satisfied about the result.

Persoonlijk ben ik heel blij dat de hittegolf afgelopen is, want ik woon in een regio waar het nu al bijna 2 maanden niet meer echt geregend heeft en de natuur in bossen en velden lijdt hier ernstig onder. De droogte geeft ook de boeren hier flinke zorgen over de oogst van hun gewassen, en ook voor de koeien groeit er bijna geen gras.

Personally, I’m very happy that the heat wave has ended now, because I live in a region where it hasn’t rained since almost two months now and the nature in woods and fields are suffering alot. The farmers are very concerned for the harvest of their crops on the fields, but also for the cows there is growing no grass.

Ondanks de droogte hebben de korenvelden een prachtig blonde kleur en de aardappelvelden staan nu in volle bloei, dus er blijft nog genoeg over om van te genieten.

Despite of the drought the wheatfields have a beautiful blonde color and the fields with potatoes are in full bloom now, so there still stays enough to enjoy.

Gloriosa superba

In mei kreeg ik van mijn dochter voor Moederdag een mooie bos bloemen, er zaten allerlei soorten bloemen in. Eén ervan viel me meteen al op: een klimlelie, de zogenaamde Gloriosa superba (voor meer informatie: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klimlelie ).

Deze bloem was de afgelopen weken echter niet uit mijn hoofd te krijgen, ik moest gewoon proberen om die bloem in mini te maken…..;O

In May, on Mother’s Day, I got a wonderful bouquet of flowers from my daughter, it contained all kinds of flowers. One of these flowers caught immediately my eye: a climbing lily, the so called Gloriosa superba (for more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloriosa_superba ).

In the past few weeks I couldn't get this flower out of my head, I really had to try to make this flower in miniature, of course ….;O!

Er gingen heel wat pogingen de prullenbak in, voordat er een bloem écht naar mijn zin was: deze!

I'd thrown quite some attempts straight in the trash bin, before I got one good flower: this one!

De stamper en meeldraden van deze bloem waren het moeilijkste om in miniatuur te maken. De meeldraden zijn eigenlijk een beetje gebogen, helaas lukte mij dat niet……

The most difficult part of this flower was making the pistil and stamens. The stamens are actually a bit curved, but unfortunately I couldn’t achieve this effect ……

……..maar het lukte echter wél om een piepkleine stamper te maken :P!

……..…….but I managed to make a very tiny pistil :P!

Ook heb ik een paar bloemknoppen gemaakt, die nog groen zijn voor dat de kleur van de bloem te zien is.

I’ve also made some buds, which are green before the actual color of the flower is shown.

Samen met het krullende blad is deze bloem een fantastische klimmer. De rechte moderne porseleinen vaas is gemaakt door Elisabeth Causeret. Vorig weekend ben ik naar de miniaturen show in Rheda geweest, waar ik deze vaas heb gekocht. Het was heerlijk om zoveel mooi miniatuurwerk te zien van andere miniaturisten :D!

Together with the curly leaves this flower is a great climber. The straight modern porcelain vase is made by Elisabeth Causeret. I've bought it last weekend on the miniature show in Rheda. I was lucky to be able to go to this miniature show and I enjoyed alot seeing the beautiful works of other miniaturists :D!

Vandaag (met dit heerlijke koele weer) kon ik eindelijk weer eens een fietstochtje maken en kwam ik langs dit dameskransje ;)!

Gewoon….drie rozen / Just….three roses

Rozen zijn er tegenwoordig in allerlei soorten en kleuren….

Nowadays roses come in all sorts and all colors….

De laatste foto is dezelfde als de eerst, maar dan met de bekende eurocent erbij ter vergelijking ;).
