Ruzie / Quarrel

This past week it was such wonderful weather and my garden asked for my immediate attention. So I was very busy and there was less time for blogging, or miniature work!!

I asked great-grandfather as babysitter for the little ones , while I was fighting with my hefty grown climbing hydrangea. Well, Paula, there were some "real big men words", that I've used during this fight :D!! After the last hard and especially long winter, the climbing hydrangea urgently needed a significant pruning…….pfft, what a lot of work! I had to use all kind of utensils for this heavy job (a hammer, an ax, a saw and so on), but finally she is standing neatly pruned in her corner of the garden now ;)!

I want to thank Melli, of http://pippibaerenbande.blogspot.com  for her help by solving my problem of the protruding hairs on the needle felted chair for Schepje. Thankfully I don’t have to shave snowmen, that scoop is for someone else ;)!

In the meanwhile I am now working on my giveaway surprise and it will not surprise you: it is something spring-like ;)! The closing date is Thursday the 3th of April and on Friday the 4th of April I’ll announce the winner. Thank you all for your patience for waiting so long!
For an other small commission I started making a few roses with thorns, which happily are not so pricking, as in real life.

I wish you all a nice and sunny week, I hope you have our wonderful spring weather too. And if not, you can always make some nice miniatures :D!

Meer van wit… / More of white…

Last week Fabiola, http://fabiolamiominimondo.blogspot.com   announced the winner of her surprise giveaway, because of her 3th blog anniversary: it was me :D!! Just two days later the envelope was here in my mail box, that was very quick. Fabiola sent me this nice linen towel and this linen doily, which were embroidered by herself, thank you very much, Fabiola!

The other of white, well, that’s an other miniature adventure…..needle felting. I’ve never done this before and I wanted to try it ever, because I saw such wonderful results of needle felting on all kind of blogs. So, a few months ago there was a small basic package for needle felting in the drugstore, it was in the bargain corner, so I’ve bought it. In the package was a brief explanation of the technique and I thought: I can always give it a try.

But whát would I like to make of this wool? First I needle felted some tufts of wool flat on the foam. Perhaps I pricked too deep in the foam cushion, because the wool just started to look like a white fur coat….?
That way it could happen that my felting needle went its own way……..then there appeared a kind of cross…? Wait the minute, if I would fold it, than it was possible that it became a small chair :D!

Because it was so hairy, I got an idea: it would become a small chair for my snowman beary, Schepje. He is created for me by Birgit of http://biwubaer.blogspot.com and his fur coat looks just like this wool ;)! Let’s see, how I can make shapes out of wool and slowly there emerged to me a small head, a tail  and a pair of arms. Maybe I could needle felt them onto the small chair ;)?
But then I had a small problem: Schepje has no legs…..what to do now?

Then I got a funny idea: to make a chair for relaxing, like those with a footrest, which is foldable too :D!

First I wanted needle felting the seat fastened to the base of the chair. But because Schepje has no legs I decided for making a two-in-one of the seat and the footrest. The seat is a footrest too, if it is unfolded. If it is folded in and Schepje is not sitting on the chair, the chair looks like a real fauteuil, it was just a lucky find :D LOL!

But how it will feel to sit ‘on the lap’ of your needle felted look-alike, that is something only Schepje can tell us. I bet it tickles ;) LOL!
By the way: can somebody tell me how I can get rid of the protruding hairs from this chair? Do I have to shave them off….??

Luckily I had a tuft of black wool. But unfortunately I did not have a very small tuft of red wool (not included in the package : ( ) for still felting a little heart on the back of his chair, that would be really nice….
....but look, there he is with his small quilt to relax a bit in his new chair, look how they laugh to us!
Thank you all for your kind comments. I wish you all a nice week :D!

Warm ingepakt / Warmly wrapped up

We now have back our normal temperatures for the month of March, so I am back inside and I started again with making miniatures. For a customer there still was a commission for making white tulips, so I started with that. Making miniature flowers was quite a while ago!

I’ve worked at these tulips the whole weekend, again I enjoyed for making flowers :D! Last week I got a bunch of tulips from my daughter, their color was red with a small yellow edge at the petals. One of the tulips dropped her petals on the table, these petals I've let dry. So for my first miniature tulips I got this way a nicely warm and gaily red blanket against the cold outside ;)!

In earlier times flowers stood on tables for plants, so, recently I purchased a plant table at www.odhqualityproducts.nl  You can click on the link, if you wish, to see the (unprocessed) plant table on their website.

ODH (Onder de Hooiberg) makes nice engravings in their miniature furniture. Nevertheless I always like to give miniatures my own look.
I have worked with Mod Podge on the whole plant table to seal the MDF for moisture. After that I smeared white acrylic paint with a plastic card in the engravings on the table tops and with a damp cloth I very quickly removed the excess of the paint. Than I have patinated them with brown acrylic patina, holding my fingertip as flat as possible, to avoid for putting paint in the engravings. The table legs are firstly painted with a lighter brown acrylic paint and after the paint was dry, I've added darkbrown acrylic patina, whereby it look like it is wood.

Furnishings are utensils and if a piece of furniture has to look like it is about 100 of years old, I think it also has to look like that........also at the bottom side :D!

Here you can see the ladies/tulips in preparation for the catwalk. Their length varies of 3 until nearly 5 cm, this is because of the size and the space of the vase in the dollhouse of my customer.

This morning I have cut them in my garden and now they are ready to get into the vase.

Well, now we stop talking, because it is the highest time to put the tulips into water, otherwise I don't need to do it anymore ;)!

Finally I want you to ask something: do you also have problems with signing up as a new follower on someone else's blog? Since about a week I can’t sign up myself as a new follower, how come?
For that reason I’ll wait for a while to announce a date for closing my giveaway, this way I hope to give everyone a chance to participate. I hope for your understanding….
I wish you all a nice week!

Bij toeval / By accident

Thank you all for your comments on my previous blog post, but despite of that, the real solution wasn't added for the 'problem with the grout', it was such a pity. I cut more than 350 tiles of colored paper, which was glued on a cardboard box of muesli and what to do now……?

My intention was for grouting the floor tiles with the compact grout powder, which I ever bought in a hobby shop. But because I firstly couldn’t find this powder, I have held a big search in my workroom. I found back a lot of stuff, but not this small plastic tray………

…until I found this discolored jar. It was a jar with acrylic gesso for making your own drawing paper with grit for soft pastels, which I was completely forgotten. I have bought this stuff in a shop for artists' supplies and I have it since years, but it was still in good condition.

So first I added Mod Podge (glue and sealer in one) on the tiles for protecting the paper tiles against the grout, which contains moisture.

After that I glued the tiles on the wooden floor and I painted them twice with a glossy varnish of the brand Darwi. At the right of the floor you see samples of tiles stuck with filler, I think it was too coarse.

Here I added some pastelgesso on a small piece of the flor rand look at it: that was the intention :D!

Each time a couple of tiles and then carefully wipe off the excess with a damp cloth. Another piece done yet……

For the rest of the floor I had hired a mason, my opinion was that I had done enough already ;)!

Against lunch hour he got a cup of coffee of my maid, while she was filling another bucket of clean water for cleaning the next tiles. I think she likes him, because she disappeared again to the kitchen…..

…..and she came back with a piece of white bread, which was a great luxury in that time of more than 100 years ago ;)!

Dit is een close up van de gevoegde vloer, sorry voorde wazige foto, het was ietsje te close up :D!

This is a close up of the floor after adding the pastel gesso, sorry for the blurry photo, as it was a bit too close up :D!

En de hele vloer met tegels! / And the whole floor with tiles!

Well, it is quite a story, but I nicely added grout to my floor tiles AND finally I found back the plastic tray (photo 3) :D!!

There are people, who asked me if my canal house is made of a kit, but no, it is certainly not a kit. I will tell you more about the build in other blog posts in the future. The exterior of my canal house is nearly finished (actually it is in the same condition after 14 years) and the complete interior has still to be done. So I started with the pantry.

A warm welcome to my new followers and I thank you all for your nice comments :D!

Zij vindt deze kleuren ‘t mooist / She likes these colors most

Thus, the worst suffering is over, the cough is almost gone: D! Oh my, I thought I would never get rid of this cough. Meanwhile, I started with something that wouldn't blow away so quickly ;), it is the floor in the pantry / cellar of my canal house.

After the build of my canal house and the making of the interior is halted since 14 years ago, it is really time to do something again with the house now.

On the internet I searched for glazed tiles, which were on the floors in the 17th century canal houses, but as usual there is not much information to be found about the workrooms of that time. Until I suddenly thought of the booklet I got as a birthday gift back in 1994:

I've got this booklet from my parents, who had visited the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam in that time and they had seen the antique dollshouse/cabinets from the 17th century.
A few years before then I was just started the miniatures hobby  and I wanted to build a canal house myself. The canal house was built in the year 2000 by me, but because of all kind of circumstances the build halted.

Last week at the hardware store I asked them for custom sawing a wooden roombox, of which I painted the walls with gesso. In earlier times these walls were whitewashed and I have tried to copy this with gesso. So, definately not beautiful regular white, but with stains and so on.

Nee? Nou, ze maken mooie aangestreken witgekalkte muren ;).

Did you ever painted walls with a lottery-card? No? Well, they make nicely rubbed whitewashed walls ;).

This picture is from my booklet about the 17th dollhouse/cabinets

Back to the pantry from the booklet, on the picture you can see that there are mustard yellow and moss green tiles on the floor. Because it is her work place, my maid was allowed to choose the colors of the floor tiles ;). My maid also liked these colors, so I started with the making of the floor tiles.

At the bookstore I bought two sheets of colored paper, which are used to print your own cards at home. On the sheets I have drawn lines, 15 mm from each other and after that I cut them up in strips, so that they couldn’t easily blow away ;).

I have edited these strips of paper with paint. I like messing up things ;).

After that I cut the tiles, I still have to varnish them.

But here is a question to you: how can I add these tiles with grout without dirtying or damaging the paper tiles? Does someone know this?

Because of my illness I still haven’t done something at my giveaway, so if you still want to participate, see here:
A warm welcome to my new followers and I thank you all for your best wishes and your nice comments!

Het is geelgroen en het fladdert / It is yellow green and it flutters

Yesterday we had a little foretaste of spring here in The Netherlands, it was about 14-15 oC and lovely sunshine. While I was in the garden looking at my spring flowers (snowdrops, crocuses), there was fluttering something around me: the first Brimstone, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonepteryx_rhamni
Oh dear, I hope it wasn’t a mistake of this butterfly ;)!

At the moment I can’t make miniature flowers, because of my coughing (yes, the cough is still here :( ), so I am now busy with some other things.

A while ago I have made another baby walker of Fimo clay for my toddler.

She really loves to play with the dashboard of her baby walker.

I tried to make all the details on the dashboard out of fimo clay and after that I have painted an impression of all the even more smaller details with acrylic paint. It has to be varnished yet, but I have first taken a picture, because otherwise there will be a glare after the varnishing.
Looking at the 16 mm 1-euro cent you can see how small the details on the dashboard are.

Bedankt allemaal voor jullie reacties/goede wensen n.a.v. mijn vorige blog post!

I thank you all for your comments/good wishes on my last blog post! A warm welcome to my new followers and since I am still coughing, I unfortunately couldn’t do something to my giveaway.
You still can participate on my giveaway, see my previous blog post
I wish you all a nice week!

Hatsjieee!! / Ahh-chooo!!

It still is not winter yet here in The Netherlands and probably it will not come anymore, so there walks a lot of nasty things through the air, such as bacteria and viruses. Until now I was able to avoid a lot, but now they have caught us……..and Hendrik too ;)!

This morning in the cold garage we tried sawing some wood for making a wooden floor, but that did not last long. We got the shivers and the safety glasses fogged, because of our heavily snivel, so we couldn't see a lot. I then could use a pair of wipers on my glasses..........on the inside :D!

Hendrik got an ‘old’ overalls from me, because he wanted to make a wooden floor in a project, that waits for us for quite some time.

During the coffee break he also started to cough, no, it was not the sawdust...

A real farmer always wears a special large handkerchief for farmers and he was using it a lot now ;)!

During lunch time he had to stop working for today....

.....and I've put him into his bed with lots of extra vitamins ;)!

Since I have not been feeling well this past weeks, I haven't visited much blogs. I definately need an energy boost, so maybe it's wise to steal a banana from Hendrik :D!
I hope soon to feel better again and to visit your blogs.

I have decided to do a surprise give away, but I ask you to have patience. First of all my sneezing and coughing has to stop, otherwise everything is flying through my workroom, of course.
If you want to join in my give away, here are the rules:
-be or become a follower of my blog
-leave a comment on this blog post, if you want to participate.
-if you want to, you can put the link on your blog, but it is not a must.
- I haven't yet a closure date, because I first have to make something ;)!
I'll give you the closure date later, if I have one!
I wish you all a nice week!
