Uitbreiding van personeel / Expansion of staff

Omdat er extra hulp in de huishouding is aangenomen, moet er op de zolder van het grachtenhuis een slaapplaats bij worden gebouwd.

De luide klappen van een hamer zijn hoorbaar door het hele grachtenpand, mede daarom is de hele familie niet thuis. In tussen heeft de dienstmeid er hoofdpijn van gekregen en ze hoopt dat het timmerwerk snel klaar zal zijn.

There has to be built an extra place to sleep in the attic of the canal house, due an expansion of the staff.

Loud blows of a hammer are audible through the whole canal house, therefore the family is not at home. In the meanwhile the maid has got headache from the noise and she hopes the work of the carpenter will be done soon.

Voor de bouw van de bedstee ( http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedstede ) heb ik de latten van een oude houten jaloezie gebruikt. Ik heb deze gekocht in de kringloopwinkel, het is lichtgewicht hout en gemakkelijk te verwerken. Voor de palen van het raamwerk heb ik vurenhouten latjes gebruikt.

For the construction of the bedstee (for more information about this ‘bedstee’, you can see this Dutch link http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedstede unfortunately I can’t find an English link). I've used old wooden venetian blind slats. I've bought it in the thrift store, this wood is very light in weight and easy to handle. For the framework I've used pine slats as poles.

Voor het maken van scharnieren heb ik een dunne metalen strip gebruikt, ik heb het om een koper spijkertje gebogen en in een kleine uitsparing in het hout geplakt met wat secondelijm.

For making the hinges I used a thin piece of metal strip, I've bent it around a copper nail and I've glued this hinge into a small hole in the wood work with a drop of superglue.

De hele bedstee is getimmerd met 'echte' spijkers. Voor dit effect heb ik gaatjes in het hout gemaakt met een naald en die gaatjes ingekleurd met een fijne donkergekleurde stift.

The whole 'bedstee' is nailed with 'real' nails. For this effect I made ​​holes with a needle in the used wood and I have colored these small holes with a very fine, dark-colored marker.

Om het toekomstige hulpje in de huishouding ruimte te geven voor haar dienstkleding en om wat kleine persoonlijke dingen op te kunnen ruimen, is de bedstee aan een kant uitgebreid met een kast.

On one side the 'bedstee'is extended with a cabinet to give the aid in the household some space for her future uniforms and where she also can store some small personal items.

tiny turnings

Voor de kastdeur heb ik van een ‘tiny turning’ een oude deurknop gemaakt. De kastdeur kan op die manier echt gesloten en geopend worden. Er zal geen sleutelgat in de deur komen, dus de vrouw des huizes kan op elk tijdstip de kast van haar personeel controleren……

For the door of the cabinet I made of a 'tiny turnings' an old door knob. Now the door of the cabinet can really be closed and opened. There will be no keyhole in the door, so the lady of the house may control the cabinet of her maid at any time.......

Ik weet nog niet of ik de bedstee zal schilderen in een antiek kleurtje, of dat ik het hout zo blank laat? Wat vinden jullie ervan?

Meer van wit… / More of white…

Vorige week kondigde Fabiola, of  http://fabiolamiominimondo.blogspot.com  de winnaar aan van haar verrassingsgiveaway, ter ere van de derde verjaardag van haar blog: dat was ik :D!! Twee dagen later lag de enveloppe al in de bus, dát was zooo snel. Fabiola had er een mooie linnen zelf geborduurde handdoek en bijpassend kleedje in gedaan, dank je wel Fabiola!

Last week Fabiola, http://fabiolamiominimondo.blogspot.com   announced the winner of her surprise giveaway, because of her 3th blog anniversary: it was me :D!! Just two days later the envelope was here in my mail box, that was very quick. Fabiola sent me this nice linen towel and this linen doily, which were embroidered by herself, thank you very much, Fabiola!

Het andere wit, nou, dat was een ander miniatuur avontuur….naaldvilten. Ik had dit nog nooit gedaan en wilde het altijd al eens proberen, ik zag zulke mooie resultaten op allerlei blogs. Dus toen er een paar maanden geleden een pakketje voor naaldvilten in de uitverkoop lag, heb ik het gekocht. Er zat een summiere uitleg bij en ik dacht: ik kan het altijd eens proberen.

The other of white, well, that’s an other miniature adventure…..needle felting. I’ve never done this before and I wanted to try it ever, because I saw such wonderful results of needle felting on all kind of blogs. So, a few months ago there was a small basic package for needle felting in the drugstore, it was in the bargain corner, so I’ve bought it. In the package was a brief explanation of the technique and I thought: I can always give it a try.

Maar wát zou ik dan eens van die wol gaan maken? Eerst maar eens wat plukjes wol gewoon plat gevilt. Misschien heb ik te diep in het schuimkussentje geprikt, want de wol begon net op een wit harig vachtje lijken…….?

Zo kon het gebeuren dat mijn viltnaald een eigen leven ging leiden……..toen kwam er  een soort kruis tevoorschijn…? Wacht, als ik hem zou vouwen, dan kon het wel eens een stoeltje worden :D!

But whát would I like to make of this wool? First I needle felted some tufts of wool flat on the foam. Perhaps I pricked too deep in the foam cushion, because the wool just started to look like a white fur coat….?

That way it could happen that my felting needle went its own way……..then there appeared a kind of cross…? Wait the minute, if I would fold it, than it was possible that it became a small chair :D!

Omdat het zo harig werd, kwam er gelijk een idee bij me op: het zou een stoeltje voor mijn sneeuwpopbeertje, Schepje worden. Hij is voor mij gemaakt door Birgit van http://biwubaer.blogspot.com en hij heeft net zo’n vachtje ;)! Eens kijken hoe dat vormen van wol zou gaan en langzaamaan kwamen er een hoofdje, een staartje en paar armpjes tevoorschijn. Die delen kon ik misschien ook wel aan het stoeltje vast vilten ;)?

Maar toen had ik een probleempje: Schepje heeft helemaal geen beentjes……wat nu te doen?

Because it was so hairy, I got an idea: it would become a small chair for my snowman beary, Schepje. He is created for me by Birgit of http://biwubaer.blogspot.com and his fur coat looks just like this wool ;)! Let’s see, how I can make shapes out of wool and slowly there emerged to me a small head, a tail  and a pair of arms. Maybe I could needle felt them onto the small chair ;)?

But then I had a small problem: Schepje has no legs…..what to do now?

Toen kreeg ik een leuk ideetje: een relaxfauteuil voor hem te maken, zo eentje met een voetensteun en die inklapbaar is :D!

Then I got a funny idea: to make a chair for relaxing, like those with a footrest, which is foldable too :D!

Eerst wilde ik de zitting vast vilten aan de stoel. Maar omdat Schepje geen beentjes heeft, besloot ik van de zitting en de voetensteun twee in één te maken. De zitting is de voetensteun, als hij uitgeklapt is. Ingeklapt en zonder Schepje lijkt het net een echte fauteuil, wat een gelukkige vondst :D LOL!

First I wanted needle felting the seat fastened to the base of the chair. But because Schepje has no legs I decided for making a two-in-one of the seat and the footrest. The seat is a footrest too, if it is unfolded. If it is folded in and Schepje is not sitting on the chair, the chair looks like a real fauteuil, it was just a lucky find :D LOL!

Maar hoe het voelt om ‘op schoot’ te zitten van je dubbelganger in wol vilt, dát kan alleen Schepje ons vertellen. Ik wed dat het kriebelt ;)!

Trouwens: weet iemand hoe ik die uitstekende haren van deze stoel kan verwijderen? Kan ik ze afscheren, of zo??

But how it will feel to sit ‘on the lap’ of your needle felted look-alike, that is something only Schepje can tell us. I bet it tickles ;) LOL!

By the way: can somebody tell me how I can get rid of the protruding hairs from this chair? Do I have to shave them off….??

Gelukkig had ik wel een plukje zwarte wol. Maar jammer genoeg had ik niet een heel klein plukje rode wol (zat niet in het pakketje :( ) om er ook nog een hartje op de rugleuning van zijn stoel te naaldvilten, dat zou pas echt leuk zijn…..

…..maar kijk, daar is ie dan mét zijn quiltje om eventjes te gaan relaxen in zijn nieuwe stoel, zie ze lachen naar ons!

Luckily I had a tuft of black wool. But unfortunately I did not have a very small tuft of red wool (not included in the package : ( ) for still felting a little heart on the back of his chair, that would be really nice….

....but look, there he is with his small quilt to relax a bit in his new chair, look how they laugh to us!

.....3,2,1,PING klaar!! / .....3,2,1,PING ready!!

In een magnetron kun je eten bereiden, maar je kunt er ook andere dingen mee doen. Je kunt er bijv. poppenhuismeubels in zetten om de lijmverbindingen los te maken. Tenminste dat heb ik ergens op een blog gelezen.

Deze afgelopen week had ik een “lijmprobleem”. Ik wilde iets in elkaar lijmen, maar dat wilde pertinent NIET plakken! Wat nu? Een magnetron kon me niet helpen ;)! Dus als laatste redmiddel heb ik een tubetje secondelijm gepakt om dit in elkaar te zetten:

You can prepare food in a micro wave, but you also can do other things with it. For example you can put a piece of dollshouse furniture in the micro wave for loosing the adhesive bondings. At least that is something I read on a blog.

This last week I had a "glue problem". I wanted to glue together a piece of dollshouse furniture, but the glue really REFUSED to stick on the wood! What to do now? A micro wave couldn't help me ;)! So as a last resort I desperately grabbed a tube of super glue to put together this:

Het keukentje is 9 x 9,1 cm groot /  The kitchen is 9 x 9,1 cm tall

Een paar weken geleden kreeg ik een foto toegestuurd van dit speelkeukentje met de vraag/opdracht om dit keukentje in miniatuur na te maken.

Eerst heb ik de maten op internet opgezocht, de verhoudingen uitgerekend en op papier omgezet in tekeningen. Daarna heb ik alle accessoires voor dit keukentje ontworpen en van Fimo klei gemaakt.

Voor de poppenhuiskindertjes wilde ik een speelkeukentje maken, waarvan de deurtjes open konden, maar daar slaagde ik niet in vanwege het lijmprobleem. Ik gebruikte vliegtuigtriplex is maar 0,8 mm dun en dat is te dun om op de kopse kanten te verlijmen. Jammer, want daardoor kon ik ook geen kleine scharnieren plaatsen.

Nadat het geverfd was en eindelijk in elkaar gelijmd was, heb ik het geheel gelakt met satijnglans vernis.

A few weeks ago someone sent me a picture of this kids play kitchen and she asked/commissioned me to make this kitchen in miniature.

Firstly I looked for the sizes on the internet, then I calculated the ratios of it and I converted into drawings. After that I designed all accessories for this small kitchen and I made them from Fimo clay.

For the dollshouse kids I wanted to make a play kitchen, of which the doors could open, but I did not succeed because of that nasty glue problem. The airplane plywood I used is only 0,8 mm thin and that is too thin for gluing on the crosscut ends. It was a pity because therefore I also couldn’t place small hinges.

After the kitchen was painted and finally was glued together, I painted the whole with a satin varnish.

Nadat het lijmprobleem was opgelost bleef ik “plakken in de lijm”: ik maakte stromend water uit de kraan van een nylon draadje en…….wat lijm ;)!!

After the glue problem was solved I stayed “stuck into the glue”: I made running water out of the tap from a nylon fiber and……….some glue ;)!!

Alle speelkeuken accessoires zijn zelf gemaakt van Fimo klei, behalve de koffiepot (laser cut woodsie) en een deel van de cupcake standaard. Die laatste is gemaakt van een Fimo klei bord en kommetje, een kettelstift met wat glaskraaltjes en een zijden strikje aan het hartvormige handvat.

All play kitchen accessories are self made from Fimo clay, except for the coffee pot (laser cut wood) and a part of the cupcake standard. This last one is made of a Fimo clay plate and bowl, an eye pin with some glass beads and a small silk bow at the heart shaped top.

Na al die plakproblemen had ik geen tijd meer om te koken, dus was een pizza salami met tomaat en zwarte olijfjes de beste oplossing. De pizza is zelfgemaakt van papierklei en de ingrediënten zijn van Fimo klei en Fimo vloeibaar. Zoals je kunt zien is het ruitje van de magnetron in de speelkeuken nog helemaal beslagen :D!!

After all those glue problems I really had not time to cook for dinner, so the solution was a pizza salami with tomato and black olives. The pizza is made of paper clay and the ingredients are selfmade of Fimo clay and Fimo liquid. As you can see the window of the microwave in the play kitchen is still completely fogged :D!!
