Ontspannen kerel… / Relaxed guy

Despite of the fact that he is very shy, Koos has shown his face already much earlier here on my blog. He appeared in 2012, but than as an other person, named Henry John. For those who are interested, here is the link:
In the photo above, Koos looks like an arrested person: hands against the wall, legs spread slightly to search this suspect, but Koos is the goodness himself....

....en altijd hulpvaardig ;)!
....and always offering a helping hand ;)!

After I’ve edited his face, I’ve dressed his new body (made of Fimo clay), because if you are so very shy as Koos is, you rather prefer to be dressed as soon as possible, huh ;O)?
Firstly I've made for Koos a pair of trousers and a shirt, and I put him his former bonnet on his bald head.
Like many people in those difficult years after WWII, in the 40s and 50s, Koos works very hard for earning a living. Working a seasonal worker, Koos helps the farmers with all kinds of tough jobs on the fields, or the farm. He has large, callous hands and walks a bit crooked, that's because he has problems with his back spine after years of heavy physical work, you can see this on the photo's, taken from aside.

After that the spencer from the 50s was on turn. It’s sewn out of fine tricot fabric, which can luckily stretch a bit, see on the picture above why…

I prefer to work with natural fabrics, such as very thin cotton and real silk, because you can shape those fabrics, if you heat them slightly with your hands, see here. If you want creases in the fabric, you can warm the fabric on the wanted spot and shape or squeeze them with your warm fingers, such as making “knees, or elbows” in trousers or a shirt.
For Koos I started sewing the long seams in the cotton, but I glued the hems at the bottom of the parts with Tacky Glue. If the glue is not yet completely dry, you can still shape that glue slightly to the body. Of course you have to know in advance what your doll should look like ;).

For “getting in shape” all of the clothing on his bent body, I let Koos doing a so called "fitness crunch". After taking this picture I namely had to think of this, and I’ve asked my children how this particular fitness excercise was named: not a push up, but a…….? The answer was a fitness crunch, hehehe, I've learned something new!
I had no clue how it was called, but I do know crunchy parts in my muesli ;).

Zó, dat ziet er beter uit!
This looks much better!

It now was time for a hairdo of the 50s, because in that time Koos was a neighbour (a so called "noaber" in Dutch regional dialect) of my mini grandparents (Huibrecht guessed it right ;O)).
At first Koos looked like this, but I thought it was too much of orange. Therefore my choice of red curls, allthough it was just a narrow edge of hair (if you look well, you can see his bald head, just underneath the rim of his cap ;O)  ). Koos is at age by now, but he is still very proud of his red hair.

While Koos had his hair cut, he was nervously fidgeting at his cap, because he doesn't like to be without his cap.

As soon as Grandma was done with cutting his hair, his cap went back on his head instantly, because it than seemed as if he still had all his hair ;).

Koos is still barefoot but I am already making a pair of new wooden clogs for him.
I'll show you how I make the wooden clogs next time.
Thank you for your kind comments, I wish you all a nice weekend!

Gezellig en vrolijk / Cosy and cheerful

Well, it was quite a cosy and cheerful new year’s  visit in the farm kitchen of my miniature Grandma, cause Auntie Doortje was here. This quirky, old lady is quite special, she almost has always fun and that shows because her tears (of laughing) are mostly always running over her cheeks.

Auntie Doortje is self made out from Fimo clay, and also dressed by me.
In 1:12 she measures 5.5 inches tall, converted in 1:1 that's about 61.4 inches tall, so she's a very small lady ;).

Let’s introduce her to you: Auntie Doortje is a niece of my miniature Grandpa. In her young years she was a district nurse, she also took care for my Grandma, who was diabetic and needed her daily injections of insuline. Being a district nurse, Auntie Doortje provided her whole region for the needed nursing care, on bike (or on a moped, which was common here, in The Netherlands, in the 50s). Therefore she wore sturdy laced shoes, which rather look like men shoes, she still wears them 😉.

Nowadays she is not so very particular anymore with her clothes, the time that her nurse uniform had to be flawless is now clearly over. Her underskirt, just like the long legs of her underpants, peeps out just below her tight skirt. And because she has increased significantly in weight, everything irregular is clearly visible.
Her blouse is neatly buttoned up to the top of the collar, but her blouse and skirt has the necessary irregularities, such as specks of dust, tiny stains etc.
Since Doortje has gotten gray hair, she has invariably dyed her hair black….. here and there she still missed one ;O. Plastic ear buttons (Fimo clay) complete her outfit.

So Doortje is dressed as was common in the 50s: tight skirt, blouse and most of the time a cardigan, but here she got for the moment a shawl of Grandma.
Here you can see the nylon stockings of Doortje (and NO, no panty’s for this elder lady), as said: sloppy, so with ladders/runners in them ;O! For getting these ladders/runners visible, I’ve darkened down the picture for you, otherwise you nearly can't see them…..and that’s what Doortje is thinking too, because these ladders/runners are at the side and rearside of her thick legs, hehehe.

Doortje got from me a solid, huge handbag (it’s more a shopping bag ;O), why? Well, that’s a bit of a ‘delicate’ subject for Doortje. If I say that Doortje always has loads of fun, than she often needs a huge men's handkerchief (and not such tiny piece of cloth for ladies) for wiping of her tears of laughing. Besides there's something else in that goodly handbag, eh well……..let’s name it “clean clothes”……
If you look well at the picture with the yellow arrows, you’ll see the worn out spots on the handles of the hand bag: the lining/rope is visible on some spots, so this hand bag is already quite worn out 😉.

After Grandpa has taken care for the cattle and returns to the kitchen to sit down for the New Year’s visit of Doortje, has Grandma finished her job of washing up the dishes. Now it will become even more cosy in the kitchen of the farm, because Grandpa likes to fool around with Auntie Doortje and this lady always has news to tell and something to laugh ;).
Little Me looks openmouthed to this cheerful Auntie Doortje, who has become even more cheerful after her second glass of eggnog with whipped cream.

As you can see the miniature farm kitchen is still not finished yet, I hope I’ll get more time for making my own miniatures in 2020 😉!
Thank you for your kind comments and your best wishes for 2020.
Have a lovely weekend!

Alweer eind oktober… / Already the end of October…

After a very hot and dry summer (the severe drought still continues here in my region!), many of my garden plants were collapsed and had to be removed. There also had to take place major maintenance in my garden, so the last couple of weeks there was very less time for making miniatures. Yet I've occasionally been able to do something, such as modeling a new doll and a big, hollow pumpkin.
I used them both for taking a Halloween picture ;).

Someone asked me for sculpting a doll, who was looking very grumpy, I hope that I did succeed to give this expression to his basical face...? At the above pictures you can see him from all sides, the head and the hands are only sculpted and baked in the oven, so they aren’t edited yetMoreover, this doll still lacks a body, so that's why I've put his head and hands in the pumpkin ;)

The self made rake is made of  round timber for the handle and sturdy grey paper for the iron work. Both are edited with (metallic) paint for giving the whole an old look.

For two commissions I've been able to make some chestnut leaves, lots of cutting and precision work!

I made a tiny DRU, so called 'confetti', enamel pan from a closure of a large plastic package. In the 50s my grandmother also had such small cook pans for keeping the food warm for those, who came later than dinner time, or for grandpa when he had to eat on the land during the harvest.

It contains cooked potatoes with green beans and a lump of butter on it, done! Tiny red and yellow dots are painted on the outside of the enamel pan (therefore its name 'confetti'), but unfortunately the red dots are a bit unvisable due to the black background, but they are there ;)!

Last weekend unexpectedly king Winter arrived with very cold temperatures and for today with lots of rain…..everywhere in The Netherlands, except here for us in the Eastside of The Netherlands. See the above picture, whereon you can see the bottom of a ditch and like this is the condition of every ditch, stream and fen here in the region: not good after 7 months of drought.
Thank you for reading my blog, your kind comments, I wish you all a nice week and for who celebrate: Happy Halloween!
