Ontspannen kerel… / Relaxed guy

Ondanks dat hij zo ontzettend verlegen is, heeft Koos zijn gezicht al veel eerder laten zien hier op mijn blog. Hij was in 2012 te zien maar in een andere gedaante, Hendrik Jan genaamd. Op bovenstaande foto lijkt Koos net op een arrestant: handen tegen de muur, benen iets gespreid om hem te fouilleren, maar Koos is de goedheid zelve....

Despite of the fact that he is very shy, Koos has shown his face already much earlier here on my blog. He appeared in 2012, but than as an other person, named Henry John. For those who are interested, here is the link:

In the photo above, Koos looks like an arrested person: hands against the wall, legs spread slightly to search this suspect, but Koos is the goodness himself....

....en altijd hulpvaardig ;)!

....and always offering a helping hand ;)!

Nadat ik zijn gezicht heb bewerkt, ben ik zijn nieuwe lijf (gemaakt van Fimo klei) gaan aankleden, want als je zó verlegen bent als Koos, dan wil je niets liever dan gauw wat kleren aan je lijf, toch ;O)?

Eerst maar een broek en overhemd gemaakt voor Koos, en zijn voormalige muts op zijn kale koppie gezet.

Zoals veel mensen in die moeilijke naoorlogse jaren ’40 en ’50 werkt Koos heel erg hard voor zijn bestaan. Hij helpt de boeren als seizoenarbeider met allerlei zware klussen op het land, of de boerderij. Hij heeft grote eeltige handen en loopt wat scheef, dat komt omdat hij last van zijn rug heeft na jaren van zware lichamelijke arbeid, dit kun je zien aan de foto's, die van opzij zijn genomen.

After I’ve edited his face, I’ve dressed his new body (made of Fimo clay), because if you are so very shy as Koos is, you rather prefer to be dressed as soon as possible, huh ;O)?

Firstly I've made for Koos a pair of trousers and a shirt, and I put him his former bonnet on his bald head.

Like many people in those difficult years after WWII, in the 40s and 50s, Koos works very hard for earning a living. Working a seasonal worker, Koos helps the farmers with all kinds of tough jobs on the fields, or the farm. He has large, callous hands and walks a bit crooked, that's because he has problems with his back spine after years of heavy physical work, you can see this on the photo's, taken from aside.

Hierna was de spencer uit de jaren ’50 aan de beurt. Die is genaaid van een soort fijne tricot stof, die gelukkig wat mee kan rekken, zie hierboven waarom…

After that the spencer from the 50s was on turn. It’s sewn out of fine tricot fabric, which can luckily stretch a bit, see on the picture above why…

Ik werk het liefst met natuurlijke stoffen, zoals zeer dunne katoen en echte zijde, want die stoffen kun je vorm geven, als je ze iets verwarmd met je handen, kijk zo. Wil je kreukels in de stof dan kun je de stof ter plaatse verwarmen en met je warme vingers vormen of erin knijpen, zoals “knieën, of ellebogen” maken in een broek, of overhemd.

Voor Koos ben ik begonnen met het naaien van de lange naden in de katoen, maar de zomen onderin en de mouwen heb ik gelijmd met Tacky Glue. Als de lijm nog niet compleet droog is, kun je die gelijmde delen (de zomen) nog een beetje vormen naar het lichaam. Je moet dan natuurlijk al wel van tevoren weten hoe je pop eruit moet komen te zien ;).

I prefer to work with natural fabrics, such as very thin cotton and real silk, because you can shape those fabrics, if you heat them slightly with your hands, see here. If you want creases in the fabric, you can warm the fabric on the wanted spot and shape or squeeze them with your warm fingers, such as making “knees, or elbows” in trousers or a shirt.

For Koos I started sewing the long seams in the cotton, but I glued the hems at the bottom of the parts with Tacky Glue. If the glue is not yet completely dry, you can still shape that glue slightly to the body. Of course you have to know in advance what your doll should look like ;).

Om alle kleding op zijn gebogen lijf “in vorm te krijgen”, liet ik Koos een zogenaamde "fitness crunch" doen. Na het maken van deze foto moest ik hier namelijk aan denken en heb ik bij mijn kinderen nagevraagd hoe deze oefening heette: geen push up, maar een………? Het antwoord was dus een fitness crunch, hihihi, weer wat geleerd!

Ik had geen idee, hoe dat heette, maar ik ken wèl crunchy stukjes in mijn muesli ;).

For “getting in shape” all of the clothing on his bent body, I let Koos doing a so called "fitness crunch". After taking this picture I namely had to think of this, and I’ve asked my children how this particular fitness excercise was named: not a push up, but a…….? The answer was a fitness crunch, hehehe, I've learned something new!

I had no clue how it was called, but I do know crunchy parts in my muesli ;).

Nu was het tijd voor een kapsel uit de jaren ’50, want Koos was in die tijd een buurman (een zogenaamde "noaber" genoemd, zoals nog steeds hier in de streek) van mijn mini grootouders (Huibrecht had het goed geraden ;O)).

In eerste instantie zag Koos er zo uit, maar ik vond het toch iets te veel oranje. Vandaar mijn keuze voor rode krullen, al was het bij Koos nog maar een randje (als je goed kijkt kun je zijn kale hoofd zien, net onder de rand van zijn pet ;O) ). Koos is inmiddels aardig op leeftijd, maar hij is nog steeds trots op zijn rode haar.

It now was time for a hairdo of the 50s, because in that time Koos was a neighbour (a so called "noaber" in Dutch regional dialect) of my mini grandparents (Huibrecht guessed it right ;O)).

At first Koos looked like this, but I thought it was too much of orange. Therefore my choice of red curls, allthough it was just a narrow edge of hair (if you look well, you can see his bald head, just underneath the rim of his cap ;O)  ). Koos is at age by now, but he is still very proud of his red hair.

Terwijl Koos zijn haren geknipt werden, zat hij zenuwachtig aan zijn pet te friemelen, want hij zit niet graag zonder zijn pet.

While Koos had his hair cut, he was nervously fidgeting at his cap, because he doesn't like to be without his cap. 

Zo gauw Oma klaar was met zijn haren te knippen, ging de pet direct weer op zijn hoofd, want dan leek het of hij nog al zijn haar had ;).

As soon as Grandma was done with cutting his hair, his cap went back on his head instantly, because it than seemed as if he still had all his hair ;).

Koos is nu nog blootsvoets maar ik ben al bezig om voor hem een paar nieuwe klompen te maken.

Hoe ik de klompen maak, laat ik de volgende keer zien.

Het is een beetje gênant… / It’s a bit embarrassing…

…om in je ondergoed op iemands blog te verschijnen, maar nog meer als je een boer uit de jaren ’50 én ook nog eens op leeftijd bent ;D! Zoals hij hier poseert voor deze foto, lijkt hij wel een beetje op Lambiek, een figuur uit de Suske en Wiske stripboeken ;).

… it's already a bit embarrassing to appear in your underwear on someone’s blog, but even more when you are a farmer of the 50s and you’re also well on in life ;D! The way he is posing here for this picture, he looks a bit like Lambiek, a character from the comic books of the Suske and Wiske series ;).

Jaren geleden heb ik deze pop, een butler gemaakt voor mijn grachtenpand, maar nadat ik hem nog eens goed bekeken had, vond ik hem wel een beetje op mijn opa lijken, hahaha. Dus ben ik begonnen met een make-over van deze butler, zodat ik hem kan gebruiken in mijn miniatuur boerderij…..als die ooit afkomt!

I made this doll, a butler, years ago, for my canalhouse, but after I took again a better look at him, I thought he looked a bit like my grandfather did, hehehe! So, I’ve started a make-over of the butler, so that I can use him later in my miniature farm…..when this farm ever will get ready!

Nadat zijn haar, de ‘loens kijkende’ ogen van zijn gezicht en het overtollige (klei)vet met een hobbymes verwijderd waren, bleef er een kaal mannetje over.

After removing his hair, the ‘squint looking’ eyes and quite some excess of (clay)fat with a hobby knife, there remained a bald little man. 

Ik heb hem eerst maar lang ondergoed aangetrokken, want anders vat hij kou met dit kille weer. Bovendien is het voor hem veel te gênant om daar in zijn blootje te moeten staan, niet ;O??

Firstly, I've put on him long underwear, otherwise he will catch a cold with this chilly weather here in The Netherlands. Moreover, I think it's much too embarrassing for him standing there in his birthday suit, isn’t it ;O?

Gelijk maar eventjes de gebreide sokken gepast, ze pasten perfect en hij is er blij mee!

At the same time I tried if the knitted socks would fit,they fitted perfectly and he’s happy with them!

Kijk eens, hoe klein en mooi deze kousjes gebreid zijn door Annelies (de Kort, zie mijn vorige blogpost).

Buiten is het koud, guur weer en in mijn streek is, zoals altijd in november, de jacht op hazen begonnen. Afgelopen weekend schrok ik op van de luide geweerschoten tijdens een wandeling.

 Here, in The Netherlands, it’s cold, inclement weather and, as always in November, the hunt for hares has started in my region. Last weekend during one of my walkings, the hunters did startled me with their loud gunshots.

Maar deze slimme haas ging er “als een haas vandoor” en heeft het tot nu toe overleefd ;).

Harig spul / Hairy stuff

Zo, Sinterklaas is weer vertrokken en de rust is weergekeerd, alhoewel….nog niet voor mijn buikspieren, want die doen nog steeds pijn van het lachen :D!!

Al mijn kinderen waren thuis en we hebben een "vreselijk", leuke avond gehad, die zelfs tot na middernacht doorging. We wisselden kleine kadootjes uit, want het gaat ons meer om het plezier. Ik heb leuke dingetjes gehad: de doos hierboven is gevuld met allerlei spulletjes om miniaturen van te kunnen maken. Daarnaast kreeg ik ook nog een poster met foto’s van mijn eerste miniaturen show in oktober j.l. Leuk, hè?!

Well, Sinterklaas (see here for more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas ) has left our country for a whole year and the peace has returned, although .....not for my abs yet, because these still ache from laughing :D!!

All my kids were at home and we have had a ‘terrible’, nice evening together, it was even after midnight before we went to bed. We exchanged small presents of each other, we all love mostly the fun. I’ve got very nice things: the box on the above picture, it was filled with all sort of things for making new miniatures. Besides that, I also got a poster with pictures of my first miniatures show in October. That’s nice, isn’t it?!

Door het organiseren van ons Sinterklaasfeest heb ik dus weinig tijd gehad om iets in miniatuur te doen. Ik had echter nog iets liggen van vorige maand wat ik inmiddels afgewerkt heb: een bontjas.

Ooit heb ik een stukje stof gehad met een dessin van nep bont erop en samen met een stukje voeringstof heb ik hier een miniatuur gevoerde bontjas van gemaakt.

While I've been so busy with organising the feast of Sinterklaas, I've got too less time to do anything in miniature. However, last month I still had done something and in the meantime I've finished it: a fur coat. Once, I’ve got a piece of fabric with a dessin of faux fur and together with a piece of lining fabric I’ve created a miniature lined fur coat.

De mouwen waren het moeilijkst om te doen, want ook die zijn helemaal gevoerd met stof, omdat de paspop er anders haar armen (en vooral haar gespreide vingers) niet doorheen kon steken. En wat heb je nu aan een bontjas als je die in de winter niet aan kunt trekken ;)?!

The sleeves were the most difficult parts to do, because these are also lined with the lining fabric. Otherwise the mannequin couldn’t go with her arms (and especially not her splayed fingers) through the sleeves. And what can you do with a fur coat, if you can’t put it on in a cold winter ;)?!

Nu is het nog wachten op de winterse koude, maar die schijnt ver weg te zijn, want zoals jullie weten: het is hier overdag nog steeds meer dan 10 graden Celsius….

Now we’ll have to wait for the wintery cold, but it seem the cold is far away, because here, in The Netherlands, we still have day temperatures of more than 10 degrees Celsius….

Laagjes kleding / Layers of clothes

Dit is Maggy.....wat een schatje, hè ;)?

Maar terwijl ze zat te wachten op nieuwe kleertjes, zag ik een heel ander meiske verschijnen ;)!

But while she was waiting for new clothes, I saw appearing quite another girl ;)!

Na de maillot met katoenen jurkje…. 
After the maillot and the small cotton dress. ...

….was het vestje aan de beurt. Ik heb er een bloemetje voor haar op geborduurd.

.... was the cardigan on turn. I have embroidered a flower for her on it.

Nadat het vestje klaar was, zag dit bedeesde meisje er ineens zó uit: lekker eigenwijs ;)!

After the cardigan was finished, this timid girl suddenly looked like this: quite pigheaded ;)!

Samen met Ko, haar knuffel, zittend op de rand van mijn werktafel, wacht ze op nieuwe schoentjes.

Sitting on the edge of my work table together with Ko, her cuddle, she waits for new shoes.

Dat was nogal een lastig karweitje: haar 11 mm “grote” voetjes van leren veterschoenen voorzien.

That was quite a difficult job: to make leather shoes with laces for her 11 mm "large" feet.

Voor haar jurkje heb ik eens geprobeerd op stof te printen, het was spannend om te zien of de printer het deed, maar het ging heel goed :D!

For her dress I’ve tried for the first time to print on fabric. It was exciting for me to see if the printer would do this odd job, but it went very well :D!

Ik heb gelijk een paar stofjes uitgeprint, zoals deze voor een bandana. Ze zijn mooi gelukt: bedankt Josje voor deze pracht van een tutorial :D!

At the same time I’ve printed out a couple of other fabrics, like this one for the blue scarf. They look great: thank you Josje for this gem of a tutorial :D!

Maggy is 8,5 cm lang en ze komt nog nét niet met haar voetjes op de grond ;)! Het stoeltje hebben jullie al eens eerder gezien. Het is door mij gemaakt van houten latjes (4x4 mm lindenhout)  en linnen draad voor de ‘biezen’ zitting.

Maggy measures 8.5 cm long and her feet still doesn't hit the ground ;)! You have already seen before the chair in a previous blog post. It is made by me of wooden slats (4x4 mm basswood) and linen thread for the seat.

Uit verveling heeft ze een naadje van haar vestmouwtje losgepulkt, kijk maar, zie je ook het moedervlekje ;)?!

Because she was bored she pried loose a seam of her cardigan sleeve, look here, can you also see the tiny birthmark ;)?!

Alle kleertjes voor Maggy zijn nog niet klaar, dus moet ze nog een poosje wachten….....wordt vervolgd :D!

Even plagen… / Just teasing…

Tussen de poppen van Patricia ( www.woolytalesminiatures.blogspot.com ) zat ook een oma. Wat een mooie uitdaging om voor haar iets moois te mogen maken! Ja, daar zit je dan met een blote oma voor je op je werktafel en dan?

Van het een kwam het ander en tja, soms is het goed om plezier te hebben, niet ;)?

Bij een ‘vrije’ opdracht werk ik graag met mijn intuïtie, zo ook dit keer…

Between the dolls, which Patricia ( www.woolytalesminiatures.blogspot.com ) has sent to me, was also a granny. What a challenge to make something nice with her!  Okay, you are sitting with a nude granny in front of you on your work table and than?

One thing led to another and sometimes it’s good to have some fun, isn’t it ;)?

At a ‘free’ commission I love to work with my intuition, so did I this time…

Ik wilde oma op de foto zetten, maar dat wilde ze niet vóór dat ze netjes gekleed was, tja, een oudere dame en wat doe je dan…? Juist, je naait een onderbroek en een nachthemd voor haar, dat kuis sluit tot aan haar kin ;).

I wanted to take some pictures of granny, but she didn’t want to do this before she was decently dressed, well, an elderly lady and what can you do….? Right, you sew an underpants and a nightgown for her, which closes chastely up to her chin ;).

Maar toen ze haar nachthemd aan had begon ze te klagen over koude voeten…….oké, een paar sloffen voor oude dames moesten er komen. Je kunt het oude mens toch geen kou laten lijden ;)?

But after she was dressed in her nightgown she began to complain of cold feet ...... .okay, there had to come a pair of slippers for old ladies. You can't let her suffer the cold ;)?

Ik heb er ook merkjes ingelijmd en ook een warm bontrandje eromheen. 

I've also glued brands in the slippers and also a warm fur trim around them. 

Ze kunnen aan- en uitgetrokken worden.

They can be pulled on and out.

Als voorbereiding voor haar kapsel dacht ik : ik rol wat krulspelden in haar haar, ze was zo kaal. Iedereen heeft op internet vast wel eens wattenstaafjes gezien, die klein gesneden, mooie krulspelden geven. Dit heb ik dus ook gedaan, nadat ik eerst  wat haar op haar hoofd had gelijmd. Hierna heb ik de krulspelden van grijs mohair haar voorzien en op het laagje onderhaar gelijmd.

For the preparing her hairdo I thought: I will roll some hair curlers in her hair, because she was so bald. I think everyone has ever seen on the internet swabs, which are cut in small pieces, which will give you this kind of curlers. I’ve done the same, after I firstly glued a thin layer of hair on her head. After that I've glued strips of grey mohair on the curlers and than I’ve glued the curlers on the layer of hair.

Ik wilde er een haarnetje omheen knopen, maar dat was nog niet zó gemakkelijk, want de stijve tule wilde niet op zijn plaats blijven zitten L.  Dus heb ik de tule met kopspelden (leuke woordspeling ;o) vastgezet in de krulspelden, zodat ik een knoopje kon maken in the tule. Nu is ze klaar en kan ze toch nog iets van huishoudelijk werk doen, terwijl haar haren drogen ;)!

I wanted to tie a hairnet around the curlers, but this wasn’t so easy to do, because the stiff tulle didn’t want to stay on its place L. I’ve pinned the hairnet with some pins in the curlers to stay in place, so that I could make a knot in the tulle. Now she can still do something in the household, while her hair is drying ;)!

Na overleg met Patricia heb ik haar lichaam zó bewerkt dat ze nu ook kan zitten. Kijk, hier laat ze zien dat ze ook nog zelf haar pantoffels kan aantrekken en dát op haar leeftijd ;O!

After consulting with Patricia I've changed her body, so that she now also is able to sit. Look, here she shows to us that she also can put on her slippers herself, and that at her age ;O!

Ik heb ook nog voor haar een omslagdoek gebreid, zodat ze warm blijft.

I’ve also knitted a shawl for her, to keep her warm.

Na al dit werk was omaatje nog niet gekleed op de goede manier en ik dacht: laten we Patricia eens plagen met wat foto’s van haar omaatje, die niet gekleed is zoals ze dat graag had gezien…….gewoon voor de lol J! 

Patricia kon er goed om lachen en ze kon er de grap wel van inzien :D LOL!

Wordt ooit vervolgd……met de juiste kleding voor oma ;O!

After al this work granny is still not dressed in the correct way and I thought: let’s just tease Patricia a bit with showing her some pictures of her granny, who is not dressed like she had wished for…….just for fun J! Patricia had a good laugh and she thought it was a good joke :D LOL!
