Even ontspannen / Just relax

Ik heb het erg druk gehad de afgelopen tijd, maar ook daarna zijn er  allerlei dingen, die vroegen om mijn aandacht. Mijn tuin vond het erg fijn me weer eens te zien en had in de tussentijd flink wat onkruid geproduceerd ;)! Allerlei kleurige bloemen en planten bloeien nu volop, het is echt een lust voor het oog!

Ook is het hier koel, maar zonnig weer sinds een paar weken en dan moet ik toch echt gaan genieten met een grote wandeling of een eind fietsen door het prachtige gebied, waarin ik woon. Wachtend op nieuwe materialen voor een opdracht, waar ik momenteel aan werk, is het nu dus ook tijd om een beetje te ontspannen en te genieten van alles wat de natuur ons geeft.

In the past weeks I have been very busy, but beside that there also were a lot of things, which asked my attention. My garden liked it very much to see me again and in the meantime it had produced a lot of weeds ;)! All kind of colorful flowers and plants are blooming now, it really is a feast for the eye!

Since a few weeks we have cool, but sunny weather too and I enjoyed it so much to bike and to walk around through the beautiful region I live in.

Waiting for new materials for a commission, at which I am working on, it is now the right time to relax a bit and to enjoy everything the nature gives to us.

Iemand heeft gevraagd of ik voor haar wat orchideeën wilde maken. Daar zeg ik natuurlijk geen nee tegen en eenmaal bezig ben ik als vanzelf gaan experimenteren met kleuren (zoals gewoonlijk :D) en kijken wat voor variaties er mogelijk zijn. 

Someone asked if I wanted to make some orchids for her. Of course I didn’t say no and once I was busy I automatically was experimenting with colors (as usual :D) and I looked for more variations which could be possible.

Het drijfhout heb ik gemaakt van stukjes wortel, wat ik in het tuincentrum op de decoratie afdeling heb gevonden. Ik weet echter niet precies wat het is.

I made the driftwood of small kind of roots. I've found it on the decoration section in the garden centre, but I don’t know exactly what it is.

Voor en na / Before and after

De houten tafel heb ik gemaakt en hoort bij een andere miniatuur (meer hierover in een komende blogpost). Ik heb de tafel verweerd op verzoek van mijn klant, maar het is nog niet helemaal af.

The wooden table is made by me and belongs to another miniature (more about this in an upcoming blog post). At the request of my client I weathered the table, but it is not completely finished yet.

Met een klein boedha beeldje, wat gevonden schelpjes, wit stukje koraal (nep) en wat drijfhout heb ik samen met wat losse orchideeën en een zeepketting (zelf gemaakt) een wit skelet van een zeeklit (Spatangus) opgefleurd.

With a small buddha statue, some founded shells, a tiny piece of white coral (fake) and driftwood with some loose orchid flowers and a soap chain (made by me) I have adorned a white skeleton of the sea potato (Spatangus).

Ik was erg blij met het behalen van 300 volgers, maar zag vanmorgen dat het er ineens weer 299 waren….? Heeft het misschien te maken met het stoppen van blogspot.com per 1 juli 2013? Iedereen heeft het er over, maar ik heb nog geen officieel berichtje gekregen hierover, kan dat kloppen? Wie kan me hier op antwoord geven? Moet ik overstappen op bloglovin.com bijvoorbeeld, of is alles zomaar een gerucht?

Fijn weekend allemaal!

I was very happy to see I reached 300 followers, but this morning I saw the number of 299….? Has it something to do with the closure of blogspot.com on the 1st of July 2013? Everyone is talking about it on their blogs, but I personally didn’t receive any message about this issue so far, is that right? Who can answer this question for me? Do I have to step over to bloglovin.com for instance, or is this all just a rumour?

Wit of…? / White or…?

Wit was de opdracht, maar ze werden (na overleg) uiteindelijk crème kleurig. Crème is een kleur tussen geel en wit…….crème zoals van de melk van koeien, die in een weiland grazen ;). 

Tja, die kleur kostte me wel wat uren werk, maar het is uiteindelijk toch gelukt!

Dit bericht gaat echter niet over koeien, maar over een iets meer elegant onderwerp :D!!

The commission was white, but (after consultation) they finally became cream colored. Cream is a color between yellow and white.......cream like the milk of cows, who graze in the meadow ;). 

Yes, that color took me quite some hours of work, but finally I found it!

However this blog post is not about cows, but about a far more elegant subject : D!!

Pioenrozen zijn mijn lievelingsbloemen en ik was daarom erg blij om deze bloemen voor iemand te mogen maken. Alleen zo jammer dat hun geur niet in miniatuur te maken is ;)!

Peonies are my favorite flowers and therefore I was very glad for being asked to make these flowers for someone. It is such a pity that their smell can't be made in miniature ;)!

Veel mensen wensen witte bloemen zowel in huis als in de tuin én in miniatuur. Maar in het miniatuur worden puur witte bloemen gauw één witte vlek om te zien. Ik probeer ze dan ook altijd wat natuurlijke kleuraccenten te geven.

Voor de foto’s heb ik daarom verschillende achtergrondkleuren gebruikt, zodat duidelijk te zien is wat kleur met bloemen doet, hetzelfde geldt ook voor de belichting.

A lot of people wish white flowers for real life and in miniature. But in miniature white flowers will become one white spot to see. I always try to give them some natural colored touches too.

For making the pictures I therefore used some different background colors, so you can see what colors do with flowers, the same applies for the lighting.

Ik heb een kannetje met een witte pioenroos erin naast de vaas met de crèmekleurige pioenen gezet, voor het verschil in kleur.

I've placed a jug with a white peony beside the vase with the cream colored peonies, so you can see the difference in color.

Een veertje en Vincent / A feather and Vincent

Al een hele tijd ligt er een veertje van een pauw op mijn werktafel. 

Terwijl ik bezig was met nieuwe bloemen te maken, wist ik ineens waarvoor ik dat kleine veertje ging gebruiken! Ik vond mijn inspiratie nu eens niet in de natuur….alhoewel een veertje ís een natuurproduct, hè ;)?

Vorige maand ben ik met vrienden naar de Hermitage (een museum in Amsterdam)  geweest om de tentoonstelling “Vincent” te bezoeken. Het Vincent van Gogh-museum wordt momenteel grondig verbouwd en daarom zijn de schilderijen van Vincent tijdelijk naar de Hermitage verhuisd. Het was echt een prachtige tentoonstelling, zeker een bezoek waard! Het is nog geopend tot en met 25 april 2013. De kleurige schilderijen van Vincent zijn wereldberoemd geworden en ik bewonder zijn werk al sinds lange tijd.

Since quite some time there lays a tiny feather of a peacock on my work table and I didn’t knew for what I would use it. While I was working on some new miniature flowers I suddenly knew where fore I could use that tiny feather:! I found my inspiration not in nature now……although a feather ís still a product of nature, huh ;)?

Last month I visited with some friends in the Hermitage (a museum in Amsterdam) the exhibition “Vincent”. At this moment the Vincent van Gogh-museum becomes thoroughly renovated and therefore the paintings of Vincent are temporarely moved to the Hermitage.

It really was a beautiful exhibition, definately a visit worth! The exhibition is still open until 25 april 2013. The colors of the paintings of Vincent are famous worldwide and I admire his work since long.

Eerst heb ik enkele narcissen mét bol gemaakt, ik heb geprobeerd mijn techniek te verbeteren. Dat had aardig wat tijd nodig, maar ik denk dat ze nu beter lijken.

Voor de lol heb ik ook een bloempotje met "Tête-à-tête" narcisjes gemaakt, dat zijn een soort mini narcisjes :D. De cent is 16 mm in diameter en de bloempot heeft een diameter van krap 1 cm en is 1 cm hoog.

First I made these daffodils wíth their bulb, I tried to improve my technique. It took me some time, but I think they look much better now.

For fun I also made a small flowerpot with “Tête-à-tête” daffodils, which are a kind of miniature daffodils :D. The 1 euro cent is 16 mm in diameter and the flowerpot has a diameter of nearly 1 cm and is 1 cm high.

Ineens vond ik dat veertje weer en heb ik er een bijpassend blauw hoedje voor gemaakt. 

Suddenly I found my little feather again and I have made a matching blue hat for it.

Daar bleef het natuurlijk weer niet bij, er moest ook een handtas bij en wat accessoires voor ijdele dames ;! De accessoires zijn gemaakt van ornamentjes van Marijke Bindels, dit is haar site www.bindelsornaments.nl

Zeg nou zelf: pauwblauw en narcisgeel dat zijn toch schitterende Vincent-kleuren?

Let's be honest: peacock blue and daffodil yellow are brilliant Vincent-colors, huh?

Hier in onze streek sneeuwt het al de hele dag en begint het wit te worden!!

In het “witte spul” van Birgit…. / In the “white stuff” of Birgit….

Zoals jullie misschien wel weten heb ik de eer gehad om één van Birgits kunstwerken te mogen ontvangen. Misschien had ze dat beter niet gedaan: de laatste jaren hebben we nog geen enkele winter met zo véél sneeuw gehad ;)! Schepje woont nu bij mij, is een heel lief en vrolijk kereltje en hij is net thuis gekomen van een missie in het zuiden des lands om al die sneeuw daar weg te helpen schuiven :D!

Like you all probably know I have had the honour to receive one of Birgit’s artworks. Perhaps it was better she hadn’t done that: in the past few years there was no winter we have had so much snow as this winter ;)! Schepje, one of Birgits awesome snowmen bearies, is a very sweet and cheerful chappie and he just came back home of a mission in the Southern part of our country to help shovelling all the mass of snow over there :D!

Toen vorige week de kraanvogels overvlogen leek het wel lente en toen ontdekte ik ook dat mijn beide soorten Helleborus in bloei kwamen. Ik heb ze gauw toegedekt met wat dood blad, want er werd een stevig koufront voorspeld. Hoevéél kou is nu wel gebleken, de winter is in volle hevigheid teruggekeerd: tja, maart roert inderdaad zijn staart!

When last week the cranes were flying over, it seems to be spring and it was then that I discovered my two types of hellebore were starting to bloom. I quickly covered them up with dead leaves, because the weatherforecast were saying there was coming a cold front on its way to our country. How cold it would become, well, we have noticed now: ice cold wind from Siberia in the company of snow. Winter is back in full force, there is a Dutch saying: March moves his tail! When translated, it means so much as that in March the weather can have a touch of spring, or even deep winter!

Vorige week heb ik een paar bloemen van de Helleborus planten afgesneden om ze na te kunnen maken in miniatuur. Zo krijgen jullie toch nog een beetje lente te zien in deze koude!

Last week I cut off some flowers of my Helleborus plants for trying to make them in miniature. So now you all can see a touch of spring in this cold weather!

Schepje en ik hadden veel lol om deze scene te maken en de eerste twee foto's te maken, maar het opruimen was wat minder leuk: de sneeuw was statisch en zat overal, behalve in het potje :D!!

Schepje and I had a lot of fun with creating this scene and taking the first two pictures, but cleaning up the snow was less fun: the snow was static and was everywhere, except in the jar :D!! 

Dank voor jullie reacties op mijn laatste bericht! Gelukkig ben ik de schrik een beetje te boven gekomen van dit nare avontuur.

Egyptisch souvenir? / Egyptian souvenir?

Dit object vond ik in de kringloopwinkel, ik denk dat het een souvenir is?

Het is van metaal en het was gevuld met okerkleurig zand.

It is made of metal and it was filled with ochre colored sand.

Een tijdje geleden fietste ik door het dorp om wat boodschappen te doen, zo fietste ik ook langs mijn favoriete winkel: de bloemenwinkel!! In de etalage stonden op een verhoging een paar hele mooie vazen. Ze hadden een aparte vormgeving: lotuszaaddozen in keramiek weergegeven. Meteen heb ik op de rem getrapt en foto’s gemaakt. Kijk dit zijn ze:

Some time ago I was riding on my bike through the village to do some shopping and I also drove along my favorite store: the flower shop! In the shop window there were a couple of beautiful vases on a platform. They had a special design: lotus seed boxes shown in ceramic. Immediately I stepped on the brake and I took some pictures. Look, here they are:

Naar huis fietsend kreeg ik een idee, dat komt dan ineens aanwaaien en soms doe ik er wel wat mee. Terug thuis heb ik in mijn “rommeldoos” gezocht, waarin een paar zakjes decoratiemateriaal moesten liggen. In één daarvan zaten wat kleine zaaddoosjes van waterlelies, die ik heb gebruikt om een “vaas” te maken voor mijn miniatuur lotus en waterlelie.

While I was biking back home I got an idea, yes, occasionally I get ideas in my brain carried by the wind and sometimes I use them. Back home I have looked in my “stash” box, in which were stored some little bags with materials for decoration. In one of them were some little seed pods of waterlilies, which I have used to make a “vase” for my miniature lotus and water lily.

In dit soort vaas moeten natuurlijk lotusbloemen en waterlelies staan ;)!

In this type of vase there should be lotus flowers and water lilies of course ;)!

Lotus en waterlelies zijn planten, die nogal eens met elkaar verward worden, daarom heb ik op bovenstaande foto beide plantensoorten naast elkaar gezet.

Beiden planten hebben een attractieve schoonheid. Voor meer informatie:

Vliegende orchideeën / Flying orchids

Weken geleden kreeg ik een email van iemand, die me vroeg of het mogelijk was voor mij om witte orchideeën te maken. O jee, ik had nog nooit zulke ingewikkelde bloemen gemaakt, maar ik dacht ik kan het altijd eens proberen.

Na een aantal pogingen werd het me duidelijk dat ik alle bloem- en blaadjes met de hand moest knippen. De eersten werden helemaal niet goed, maar na onderzoek op het internet en eens goed kijken in plantenboeken, dacht ik: oké, nu lijken ze wel een beetje op echte orchideeën!

Weeks ago I got an email of someone, who asked me if it was possible to make white orchids. O dear, I had never made such a complicated flower, but I thought I can always give it a try.

After a few attempts it was clear to me I had to cut all leaves and petals by hand. The first ones weren’t good at all, but after a study in books of plants and on the internet, I thought: okay, now they look a bit like orchids!

3 stengels / 3 stems with orchids

Al werkende aan deze orchideeën kreeg ik een idee: ik kan ook van de losse bloemen een modern bruidsboeket samenstellen. Op de vorm van een kegel van goudkleurig draad werden witte en roze orchideeën bevestigd. Een parfumflesje en een paar parel oorbellen erbij voor de bruid :D

Whilst I was working on these orchids I got an idea: I also can compose of the loose flowers a modern bridal bouquet. In the form of a cone of gold wire were attached white and pink orchids. I added a small perfume bottle and pearl earrings for the bride :D 

Deze week ben ik ook nog eens flink verkouden geworden, dus was het werken extra lastig. Zitten niezen als een tornado boven miniatuur bloempjes van 8 mm is echt niet handig, hoor, o nee ;)! De bloemen vlogen door de kamer heen, die zijn dik geslaagd voor hun vliegbrevet :D!

Nu weten jullie gelijk waarom ik afgelopen week niet in de blogwereld was: ik was een beetje ziek, zoals iedereen dat wel eens is. Ik kom snel weer op jullie blogs kijken als ik me weer wat beter voel, oké?

This last week I caught a very bad cold, so the job was rather inconvenient. To sit down for work and sneeze like a tornado above miniature flowers of 8 mm in size isn’t handy at all, oh no ;)!! The orchids were flying through the room, so they now got their pilot’s license :D!

Now you know why I wasn’t in the blogosphere this last week: I was a bit ill, like everyone sometimes can be. I’ll visit your blogs as soon as possible, when I feel better, okay?

Luciferkopjes / Match heads

Begin Januari heb ik jullie een witte cyclaam laten zien met het voornemen ook een rode variant te maken. Tijdens het maken van deze plant deden de bloedrode bloemen me denken aan luciferkopjes.

Deze rode cyclaam heeft echter twee gezichten: aan een kant zie je de plant, zoals hij er uit ziet als je hem goed verzorgd…

In the first week of January I showed to you a white cyclamen with the intention to make a red version. Whilst making this plant the red flowerheads did me make think of match heads.

However this red cyclamen has two faces: at one side you see the plant, like he looks if you treat him well….

Maar bij slechte verzorging zie je dit / But after bad care you see this

……verlepte en geel verkleurde blaadjes! / ……wilted and yellowing leaves!

Gezien mijn slechte resultaten met het houden van échte cyclamen, wilde ik de laatste cyclaam (die uiteindelijk toch nog de geest gaf) toch nog vereeuwigen ;)

Given my bad results with keeping real life cyclamen, I still wanted this last cyclamen (which finally did expire) to immortalize ;)!

Muurbloempje? / Wallflower?

Midden op mijn eettafel staat een “muurbloem”, al weken alleen (tuurlijk, het is een muurbloempje :D), totdat…..ik vanmorgen een groen puntje zag! Mijn Hippeastrum, ook wel Amaryllis genoemd, vertoont tekenen van leven, dat is geweldig nieuws.

In the middle of my dining table stands a wallflower, very alone (of course, it is a wallflower :D) since a few weeks, until………..this morning, when I saw a tiny green tip! My Hippeastrum, or also called Amaryllis, shows some signs of life, that is wonderful news.

Het is ook nog eens een internationaal bolletje ;)! / It also is a international bulb ;)

Al een paar weken probeer ik deze bloembol en een eventuele bloem in miniatuur te maken, dus had ik een bloembol voor dit doel gekocht bij een winkel genaamd “Action”. Nou, veel "actie" was er niet de eerste tijd ;)!

Since a few weeks I am trying to make this flowerbulb and eventual a flower in miniature, so I had bought a flowerbulb for this purpose at a store called “Action”. But there wasn’t a lot of "action" during that time ;)!

Na een aantal pogingen kwam ik er achter hoe ik het beste die bloem(boll)en kon maken, hier is het resultaat. In papier is ze er al, nu zou ik nog graag een échte bloem zien!!

Deze schoonheid is een gigant vergeleken met de witte bloem (boven in de rode cirkel) :D!!

Laten we dit bericht maar een voorbode van de lente noemen, alhoewel die nog ver weg is hier in Nederland met temperaturen onder nul. Alweer vijftig jaar geleden werd de meest barre Elfstedentocht ooit gehouden, voor wie meer wil lezen hierover: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elfstedentocht

Omdat we niet meer zo vaak natuurijs hebben, is dit evenement zeldzaam geworden. Bovendien gaat het dit weekend dooien, zegt de weerman. Jammer, de schaatsen maar weer in het vet en wachten, totdat er weer eens natuurijs is L!

Let’s call this post a harbinger of spring, although spring is far away here in The Netherlands with temperatures below zero. Moreover it is fifty years ago that the most grueling  “Elfstedentocht” ever was held, you can read all about this here:

Since we don’t have natural ice so often by different causes, unfortunately this event became very rare. Besides that, this weekend it will go thaw, says the weatherman. Such a pity, the skates back into the fat (for storing) and wait, until natural ice is back again L!
