A few months ago I got a very generous offer of my dear blog
friend Birgit, and who of us doesn’t know her…? Here is her blog: https://biwubaer.blogspot.com/ where you
can find Birgit ;O)!
Birgit recently got a set of original furniture of the 50s from
her American blog friend Jennifer (she doesn’t blog anymore, so no blog entry) and she told
Birgit that she was free to do with it whatever she wanted. Birgit gave it a
good thought, but she also couldn’t find a good destination for this furniture.
After long thinking Birgit decided that she would gifted the
set of furniture to me, because I’m making a miniature farm of the 50s. That
way this old furniture, originally made in the 50s, would go into a miniature
scene of the 50s, exactly there where they should be, according to Birgit.
After the furniture and some other miniatures arrived at my
house, I immediately saw beautiful pieces of furniture of an outstanding good
quality, very suitable for going into my miniature farm.
Birgit, I’ve thanked
you already, but I do it once again here: these pieces of lovely furniture have
found a very good home……and they’re back again where they belong: in the 50s
;O)!
And Birgit wouldn’t be Birgit, if she didn’t add some extras
in the parcel, see here. There was a fine woven tiny cloth, whereon was
embroidered a very tiny beautiful rose. According to Birgit: it would be a beautiful
addition for in grandma’s clothes cabinet, and that’s something I fully agree
with her!
A farm yard always has a sort of waste heap, so these
battered bricks could also lie on that, according to Birgit (she is really
thinking of everything XX)!
The greatest thing you see on the picture is the shaving set
for grandpa, excisting of shaving soap, mug, shave blade and shave brush. I
already said it before: Birgit thinks of everything, because I completely
forgot to think of buying this for my mini grandpa ;D!
was.
I’ve saved this picture as the final one, and well because
of the following reason: the cloth with the embroidered cock on it. See what
Birgit wrote, I quote: “my 1st thought was: phew, my, this is ugly….!”, but
after a 2nd look she thought that the embroidered cock didn’t look bad at all.
Maybe I could use it for a cushion insert..? And that was exactly what I
thought too after unwrapping it.
So, I decided to reuse again the counting pattern of the
cock and to embroider it self again but than, crossing just one linen thread,
that way it would finally the half of it.
But while I was working on it, I decided to still leave it
to be as a tablecloth, because I still had to make one for the farm too. Since
it had a rooster embroidered on it, it was perfect, right? So I started
embroidering with similar vintage colors, which luckily I still had in my box
with silk embroidery yarns. So it was (just as in the 50s here in The Netherlands) a sort of recycling and nothing new was bought
;O).
In the end I had two embroidered roosters on the table cloth
and it was time to remove the embroidery stitches of the bigger cock. After
removing the old stitches, there were (of course) left very fine parts of
embroidery thread in the remaining holes, but with an old toothbrush with very
soft bristles, I carefully brushed the rest out. A fresh, gentle hand wash, followed by a
gentle hot meeting with my iron, and voilà, this is how it looks now!
With its size of 17 mm high and 15 mm wide, I think the cock
is still a bit too big for a tablecloth in 1:12. But still I'll just leave it
alone, maybe it will be a shawl for my mini grandma, to use on a chilly spring,
or autumn evening..?
toegewenst!
After pressing the cloth with a hot iron, I've cut off the 2
cm long fringes to a length of 5 mm, so now it's a little more in proportion.
With my tweezer I then frayed the fringes so that they became finer. But I got
a great idea by seeing the cut fringes …… .but that's something for another
blog post; O)!
Stay healthy, take good care for yourself and of each other!
Thank you for your kind comments, wishing you all a lovely
new week!
Ilona
