De oude minibijbel, die meer dan 20 jaar lang in mijn
antieke linnenkast lag, was absoluut geen schoonheid om te zien. Dus ben ik als
eerste begonnen met een nieuwe ‘oude’ bijbel te maken.
Tijdens de restauratie van de échte bijbel van mijn
grootouders vielen er wat losse stukjes papier uit deze bijbel, maar ook een stukje van een
pauwenveer. Toentertijd had ik geen idee waarom dat stukje veer in die bijbel
zat, maar na een zoektocht op internet kwam ik er achter dat een pauwenveer als
bladwijzer in de bijbel werd gebruikt. Het schijnt dat het oog van de
pauwenveer een symbolisch teken was van Gods wakend oog. Dus besloot ik dat er ook zo’n pauwenveertje
in de mini bijbel moest komen ;).
The old mini-bible, which was lying for more than 20 years
in my antique linen cupboard, was absolutely not a 'beauty' to see. So, firstly I
started making a new ‘old’ bible.
During the restoration of the RL bible of my grandparents
(more than 25 years ago) some pieces of paper fell out from this bible, but
also a tiny piece of a peacock feather. At the time I had no idea why that
piece of feather was in their bible, but after a search on the internet I found
out that a peacock feather was used as a bookmark in the bible. It seems that
the eye of the peacock feather was a symbolic sign of God's watchful eye. So
I decided that there should also be such a peacock feather in the mini bible ;).
Eerst heb ik een boekomslag gemaakt uit dun karton en zeer
dun palingleer (gekocht op een miniaturenbeurs) op maat geknipt. De binnenkant
van het boekomslag is beplakt met beige papier, waarna ik met scrapbook distress-inkt wat
‘oud’ uitziende randjes heb gemaakt.
Daarna heb ik een reep dun beige gekleurd papier geknipt,
wat ik als een accordeon opgevouwen heb, en waar ik op de middelste bladzijden van dit boekblok wat ‘tekst’ heb gezet met behulp van een liniaal en streepjes heel
dun vulpotlood.
Aan de buitenkant van de bladzijden/boekblok heb ik, met
gebruik van heel weinig distress inkt, een ‘oude/versleten’ look gegeven.
First I’ve made a book cover, out of thin cardboard and I’ve
cut to size a piece of very thin wonderful 'leather' (bought on a miniatures
fair, they told me it's made from eel skin). The inside of the book cover is
covered with beige paper, whereafter I gave the edges an ‘old' look, using
scrapbook distress ink.
Than I've cut out a long strip of paper, for making pages for
the book, I've folded it as an accordion. Than I’ve 'written' blocks of text on
the pages in the middle, it's made by pulling tiny stripes with a very thin propelling pencil and with the
help of a ruler.
At the outside of the book block I gave the pages an
‘old/worn out’ look, by using just a little bit of distress ink.
Toen het boekblok eenmaal in de omslag was gelijmd, vond ik
het leer er te glanzend, te nieuw, naar mijn smaak uitzien. Met een stukje oud, heel
fijn schuurpapier ben ik het voorzichtig gaan schuren, totdat het er doffer uitzag.
Daarna heb ik de rest van de bladzijden losgesneden met een
scalpel. Hier en daar heb ik de bladzijden wat opgekruld aan de hoekjes.
Once the book block was glued into the book cover, I thought
the leather looked too shiny, too new, after my taste. Using an old, tiny piece of
very fine sanding paper I sanded it, until it looked more matte.
After that was done I cut loose the rest of the pages, using
a scalpel knife. Here and there I made some curly edges at the pages.
Eerste poging / First attempt
Toen kwam het maken van het pauwenveertje: dàt was
gemakkelijker gezegd dan gedaan!
De basis is een écht stukje pauwenveer, van een staartveer,
die ik ooit heb gevonden. Ik heb voor de wat dunnere uitsteeksels aan de
zijkanten, uitgerafeld dun zwart synthetisch band gebruikt. Iets waarvan ik achteraf een
beetje spijt had, maar daarover later meer.
Then the peacock feater was on turn: it was not easy to do!
The base is a RL piece of peacock feather, from a tail
feather, which I’ve ever found. For the more thinner protrusions at the sides
I've used a thin synthetic ribbon, frayed out. Something I did regret
afterwards, but more about this later on.
Na het in vorm knippen van het band en het veertje, lees
inkorten, was het meeste van de mooie parelmoerkleuren een stuk minder goed te
zien. Om het ‘Gods wakend oog’ op dat kleine stukje veer te kunnen
maken, heb ik gebruik gemaakt van iriserende inkt van het merk Smooch. Ik heb
het al jaren in huis, ooit gekocht in een hobbywinkel, om het ooit een keer te
gebruiken. Dat is nooit gebeurd tot nu toe en nu moest ik goed zoeken in welke la het ook alweer lag,
het bleek al behoorlijk ingedroogd te zijn, maar ik kon er toch nog iets van
gebruiken :D!
De vreugde was van korte duur: de inkt bleef niet goed zitten
L……totdat ik een idee
kreeg: misschien dat een heattool het gewenste effect ha? Dus: het stukje veer
weer schoongemaakt met een stukje keukenpapier en opnieuw begonnen, na goed
drogen de heattool erop gezet, waardoor het synthetische band meteen kromp tot
er niets meer van over was, jemig, dàt had ik kunnen weten ;O!! Dit keer moest
ik helemáál opnieuw beginnen. Toen ik dus wéér de heattool moest gebruiken ben
ik veel voorzichtiger geweest en nu blijft het redelijk zitten, zij het NIET erg
veegvast! Maar het veertje komt in de minibijbel en het gaat, denk ik, weer
voor jaren de kast in, dus…….niemand die het waarschijnlijk ooit nog ziet ;O.
After cutting the ribbon and the feather in shape, read:
shorten, most of the beautiful mother of pearl colors were way less to see. For making ‘God’s watchful eye’ on that tiny piece of feather, I used
iridescent ink of the brand Smooch. I had this stuff already for years, once
bought at a hobby shop, for using it whenever it would be. That never happened until so far and I had to thoroughly look for it in my drawers, and it already seemed to be
quite dryed up, but I still could use a bit :D!
However, my joy was lasting just for a short while: the ink
didn’t stick well on the surface L……until
I got an idea: what if I would use a heat tool for the wanted effect? So: I
cleaned up the tiny feather and I started again with the ink, and after drying
very well I used the heat tool, whereby the synthetic ribbon shrank immediately
until nothing was left, oh oh, I should have known that ;O!!
This time I really
had to start all over again. So, when I had to use the heat tool again, I was
much more careful and now (the feather!) and the ink stayed quite well,
although it’s NOT very wipe-resistant! But the feather will go into the mini
bible and I guess that it will go into the linen cupboard for years, so…….no
one who will probably ever see it again ;O.
Tot slot (letterlijk én figuurlijk) heb ik een slotje erop
gemaakt. Hiervoor heb ik een ornamentje van Bindels Ornaments (zie hun website)
gebruikt en zó ziet de minibijbel mét pauwenveertje als bladwijzer er nu uit!
Finally (literally and figuratively) a lock was made on it.
For this I used an ornament from Bindels Ornaments (see their website) and this
is how the mini-bible with peacock feather, as a bookmark, looks like now!
Oude miniaturen vóór bewerking/vervanging
Old miniatures, before editing/replacement
De oude bruidspijp (zelfgemaakt van Fimoklei en beschilderd stukje fijn ijzerdraad) is hier en daar een beetje bijgewerkt en
kreeg een nieuw zijden lintje, dit keer met de bloemetjes (2 mm), die staan
voor de geboorte van elke kind in het gezin. De losse toegevoegde blaadjes heb
ik zelf toegevoegd, omdat mijn grootouders na de oorlog ook pleegkinderen in
hun boerderij hebben opgevangen.
The old wedding pipe (selfmade of Fimo clay and a painted piece of fine wire) has been updated a little here and there
and got a new silk ribbon, this time it also got the tiny flowers (2 mm), which
represents the birth of every child in the family. I added the loose leaves
without flowers) myself, because after the war my grandparents also took care
of foster children in their farm.
Een flesje 4711 Eau de cologne, Kölnisch Wasser, kon ook in
dit soort linnenkasten staan, ook voor mijn mini oma heb ik er eentje gemaakt.
In this sort of antique linen cupboards there would be
present a tiny bottle of eau de cologne, brandmark 4711, I also made one for my
mini Grandma.
Ooit heb ik op een miniaturenshow wat (laser cut perspex)
parfumflesjes gekocht, waarvan ik er nu eentje heb gebruikt die de geschikte
vorm had. Aan de hals heb ik het wat ronder bijgesneden, zodat het dopje
(Bindels Ornaments) er op zou passen.
At a miniature show I ever bought a few (laser cut perspex)
perfume bottles, of which I have now used one that had the right shape. At the
neck I have trimmed it a little rounder so that the cap (Bindels Ornaments)
would fit.
Van dun papier heb ik een rood bandje en ‘zegel’ geknipt,
die zo kenmerkend zijn voor deze flesjes Eau de cologne. Het zegel en de
bovenkant van de goudkleurige dop kregen, met behulp van een cocktailprikker, een
dotje rode nagellak om ze net iets meer reliëf te geven.
I cut out a red band and a "seal" of thin paper,
which are so characteristic of these bottles of eau de cologne. With the help
of a cocktail stick, the seal and the top, of the gold-colored cap, got a dot
of red nail polish, for given them a bit more embossed relief.
Na het vastlijmen van een zelfgemaakt printje vond ik, naar
mijn smaak, het randje van dit printje niet netjes genoeg. Ik heb dit
weggewerkt door heel summier wat gel nagellak te gebruiken aan de zijkanten van
het flesje.
Bijkomstig effect was dat het flesje eruit ging zien alsof het écht
gevuld was, ikke……? Ik was zooo blij met dit bijeffect :D!!
After gluing a self-made image, I found the edges of this
print not neat enough after my liking. I got rid of this by adding just a
little bit gel nail polish, on the sides of the bottle.
An additional effect
was that the bottle looked like it was really filled, and I......? I was sooo
happy with this additional effect :D!
Het glaasje heb ik lang geleden op een miniaturenshow
gekocht, sorry, ik weet helaas niet meer precies van wie. De flacon heb ik

Tot nu toe zijn dit alle toebehoren bij elkaar, de deuren
van mijn linnenkast gaan nu dicht.
Maar er komt nog wel het een en ander in de
laden, iets wat óók in vroeger tijden daarin opgeborgen werd. Ook komt er nog
wat op de kast te staan, dus is het nog niet gedaan met de restauratie van deze 1:12 miniatuur antieke linnenkast ;).

drawers, something what was also stored away in this sort of cupboards in that

for restoring this antique linen cupboard in miniature1:12 scale ;)!
