Rozen / Roses

Een poosje geleden kreeg ik een opdracht om rozen te maken, lichtgele rozen. Nou, ik moest eerst maar eens gaan uitzoeken hoe ik dat nou zou kunnen doen….dus bloemendraad en zijde papier kwamen op tafel. Eens zien of we wat konden maken in de gewenste kleur, want daar maakte ik mij nogal zorgen om. Miniatuur bloemen maken in één en dezelfde kleur kan wel, maar het geeft geen diepte aan de bloemen, waardoor je ze met het blote oog als een “platte” gekleurde vlek waarneemt. 

(maar op een macro foto zie je wél het verschil in kleur tussen de rozen)

A while ago I got a commission for making roses, pale yellow roses. Well first I had to find out how I could do this job……so, the floral wire and silk paper appeared on my work table. Let’s see how we could make them in the wished color, because I was quite worried about that. Making flowers in miniature in one and the same color is possible, of course! But if you'll use one color, it also won’t add depth to a flower. So if you see these flowers with the naked eye, you will see them like a ‘flat’ colored stain. 

(but a macro photo does show some difference in color between the roses)

Na rijp beraad heb ik daarom een heel klein vleugje roze toegevoegd en dat was nu juist wat deze rozen nodig hadden :)! Op de foto's lijken de rozen meer roze dan ze zijn, dat komt omdat het vandaag hier in Nederland erg donker weer was en flink stormde. Lekker weer om miniaturen te maken, maar niet om foto’s te maken, hè ;O?

After careful consideration I have therefore added a teeny tiny touch of pink and that was precisely what these roses needed :)! In the pictures the roses look a bit more pink than they really are. That's because today it was here in the Netherlands very dark weather and it was quite stormy. Nice weather to make wonderful miniatures, but not for taking pictures, isn't it ;O?

Eerst had ik vier rozen en twee knoppen gemaakt, maar de vaas van mijn klant was ietsje wijder aan de hals, dus heb ik er twee bloemen bij gemaakt. Het geeft het boeket meer volume, vind je niet?

First I’d made four roses and two buds, but the vase of my customer was a bit wider at the neck, so I’ve made two more roses. It adds more volume to the floral arrangement, don't you think?

Het was veel werk om voor de blaadjes elk onderdeeltje apart te knippen, hiervoor gebruik ik mijn loeplamp. Ook de blaadjes (de restanten van de groene knop), die onder de bloemblaadjes van de roos zitten verborgen, worden apart geknipt met een klein gebogen schaartje. Elk blaadje is 4 mm lang en 1mm breed.

It was a lot of work to cut each separate part of the leaves, for this very precise job I always use my magnifying lamp. Also the small leaves (the remnants of the green bud), which are hidden under the petals of the rose, are separately cut with a tiny curved scissors, each tiny leaf is about 4 mm long and 1mm wide.

The flower basket is made by me, it’s made of floral wire and thin cotton thread. In one of my previous blog posts you can see how I did the weaving.
