Just reading about it makes me pinch my nose. But I'm in love with your grandma's blankets. It makes me think that I should raid the cupboards in the house where I'm staying (my parents in law) and see whether I can find suitable dusters or woolen fabric to try.
Crepe paper dye is such an inventive idea and I'm sure it would work great for all kinds of pastels. Here's some advice about dyeing fabrics:
Apart from synthetic fabric which is very difficult to dye, there are two categories of natural fibres and they require different mordants. A mordant is the chemical which helps the dye to attach to the fibers you're trying to color.
For cellulose you add salt to the dye bath to make it alkaline. This includes cotton and linen fabrics.
For protein you add vinegar to make the dye bath acidic. This includes silk and wool.
A very good and traditional mordant that works for everything is urine. Maybe you should save up the contents of your grandmother's chamber pot, haha. Read the interesting short article at this link.
https://www.objectlessons.org/work-and-innovation-tudors/urine-pots-tudor-replica/s63/a919/Megan Schetschehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18267976778350267276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7651540619470591791.post-55290848509597879042019-05-30T00:27:50.422+02:002019-05-30T00:27:50.422+02:00Reading your posts of your Grandparent's Farm ... I know I'm repeating myself - but what else can I do than say: This is soooooo you! Perfect in any detail… up to the blanket logo. And of course not to forget the small amount of urine… and the sweat marks.

It made me smile all over that you've used an old dust cloth given to you by your aunt - what a touching little detail. And it makes such a good job! And what great news that you're now having two assistants helping you with your miniature work - Mr. and Mrs. Banana have taken their lying business very serious, not caring about their own youth and health. And it's amazing what one can do with salt and a bit of crepe ribbon. Not to forget your tiny stitching is awesome - and so is Faby's. What a wonderful surprise from a wonderful friend.

Hugs
BirgitBiWuBärhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16624262663621307478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7651540619470591791.post-89652692421329978922019-05-25T17:44:39.317+02:002019-05-25T17:44:39.317+02:00Hard working farmers will have no problem falling ...Hard working farmers will have no problem falling asleep in such a fantastic made bed.
