Lapjesdeken? / Patchwork?

Last week I enjoyed of my walkings through the beautiful region, where I live. That was before the weather did change into too cold and very very wet! Lots of farmers had been busy on their fields and the grass was already mowed in order to process it into silage. The color of the shortly mown meadows changed into a nearly white, very light green color. The large fields (newly plowed and sown) lie alternately between the large meadows and  together they look just like the colored patches of a huge patchwork. All colors of earth and green are represented :D!

Last week I started my own (miniature) patchwork, it's made of small pieces of cotton fabric. I ever have seen how to make this, but I absolutely can not remember on which blog I’ve seen this tutorial. If someone of you can tell me on which blog this tutorial is, please, tell me, than I can put the link of this blog here.

First I've cut small squares of 1 x 1 cm out of a cover of an old telephone directory. Than I cutted small patches of fabric of 2 x 2 cm. The patches are one by one sewn with tacking thread around the small paper squares.

Then you can sew the patches to each other (lengthwise) and then you sew these rows together as a quilt.

Now you first have to press the quilt with a mini (quilt) iron, then you can gently remove the paper squares.

Now you can sew at the back of your quilt a cotton lining fabric in a matching color.
This quilt measures 13 cm x 9 cm and it will go into the ‘bedstee’/cupboard cabinet of my canal house, when it is ready. I think I will paint the ‘bedstee’ in an old Dutch color.

Finally I would like to show you some pictures of my region, so you also can enjoy a little bit of this 'natural' lovely colored patchwork ;)!
(For those who still don’t know: click on the pictures to enlarge them)

I live in a region, called the Achterhoek, with a so called 'scenery' landscape. The sloping landscape against the German border with a continuous alternation of woods, fields, meadows, streams and fens, it's awesome pretty :D!

Meikever / Cockchafer/May bug

Kantwerk van Fluitekruid langs het pad / Cow parsley along the path

Brem / Gorse

Gele Lis / Sword flag

Meerkoet, broedend op haar nest vlakbij mijn voeten / A Coot, brooding on her nest near my feet

The white flowers are Viola Riviniana, the blue one is a Viola odorata

This dandelion even had a party hat on his fluffy head ;)!

I wish you all a very nice weekend, wherever you are :D!

Hi Ilona!
Thank you for your beautiful spring photos! ♥ Your dandelions are already flying away whilst I just picked the first ones for our turtle. He loves dandelions. :D
I am still busy with building Rauha's house. I have to get it ready as soon as possible. But, after the house is ready my plan is to try patchwork! My friend showed me the same instructions than yours but with hexagons. Thank you Ilona for this tutorial. I think I will try squares first. Let's see how I success with my patchwork. Yours is beautiful! ♥
Now I'll go outside. We have almost +25 and soooo nice weather at the moment. :)
Hugs, piikko

Hi Ilona! Your patchwork quilt is beautiful! I love seeing how you've made it. The time and patience were well worth it!
You live in a very beautiful area, I love seeing the wildlife! I'm lucky, I live in a town but I am only 10 minutes from countryside in almost any direction!
Kind regards, Brian.

Hi Ilona! I have also seen that technique somewhere.... I'm not good at keeping track of where! But I have never tried it. Your quilt looks Beautiful and will be perfect in the bedstee! I think painting the bedstee in an old Dutch color is the right idea.... and I can't wait to see how it looks!
You certainly do live in a picturesque landscape and I enjoyed seeing a glimpse of your homeland! I also live in a semi-rural place... but alas, so many of the farms have stopped farming and the fields are grown to forest again.... we no longer have much of that beautiful "patchwork" look in the fields. Thank you for sharing the beauty!

Your quilt is amazing and beautiful!!! I'm not sure - did I ever ask aloud if there is anything you can't do? *LOL* I know that I've seen someone do a quilt with this technique somewhere who refered to a tutorial of Mercedes at Liberty Biberty... but somehow you've made your own tutorial now and your patchworking skills are stunning. You must be soooo patient and focussed on the result... ;O) Thanks for the lovely photos of the beautiful area you live in, nature seems to be intact at your place... and the partying dandelion is a true burner!
