Hallo allemaal! / Hello everyone!

Due the summer holiday and real life I have been away from the blogworld since a few weeks. In the meantime I also dived into my workroom for a large cleaning. After the greatest “havoc” was gone, there really was appearing…….my canal house. So it still was there :D!

The canal house is already 12 years old, but actually no one can see it. I namely put the house behind a curtain, on that way I can keep the dust away from it.
I have recreated this house from a book, which I've borrowed at that time from the library. In reality this house looks very different, because I didn't want to copy it exactly. Actually I needed a sort of a cabinet, instead of a house, for storing my selfmade miniatures. So I had changed the dimensions of the house into those of this cabinet, which has the shape of a canalhouse.
The plan was (and still is) to put rooms in it, which are furnished in advance, so that I can still have access to the lighting and that these wires don't hang out of the backside of the house.
For various reasons the build of the house and its miniatures came to a halt for several years ago, as you probably all know, I could continue with this hobby in 2011.

The canal house can be fully taken apart and put back together. The house stands "loose" on a mobile under cabinet, which is handy for the transport of the heavy canal house/cabinet. In this under cabinet is even more storage space and for which one possibly can make doors.

The side walls of the canal house are actually the front- and the back gable of the “miniatures cabinet”. Here in are the big doors, which make the house accessible. The side walls are the front- and back gable of the canal house. Hereof I only have blurry and old pictures, I can’t make new pictures now due the lack of space in my workroom.

The outside of the canal house has already all its doors and windows. I took them out of the openings, so that they can’t be damaged by the build of the rooms. The inside is yet to be build, in the meantime I collect miniatures, which I can’t make myself.

The roof has a piano hinge, whereby it can be opened and can stay open.

A few weeks ago I found this cameo in the local drugstore, I thought it would fit lovely in one of the rooms of my canal house.

I love the canal houses, I can remember them from my short stay in Amsterdam on a stopover many years ago but didn't have time to look around. I am sure your decorating will be interesting to follow and look forward to more posts.

It is wonderful to see your House, Ilona! I hope you get time to work on it again! I know we all get distracted... I find I delay the most with the project I have the strongest feelings for.... I don't want to do something in a hurry and make mistakes....! But your canal house is Huge! I want to see some interior rooms all done! LOL!
That cameo is gorgeous... and so are your flowers!

I wish I get the impetus to spring clean soon. My house is a MESS!:)

Your canal house is amazing! Can't believe you built that from scratch or that it can be taken apart. It definitely look seamless in the front!

It will be a waste if you don't finish it. It is beautiful!

I love your canal house. It reminds me of some of the houses I saw when I travelled overseas many years ago. The cameo you found is gorgeous and I look forward to seeing it in a room in your canal house in the future.

It's good to have you back in blogland - I really missed you! But it's okay because you used the time to enjoy summer and to clean up - and best of all, to bring that house back to light. Wow, what an impressive building! Yes, it would be a shame if you wouldn't finish it.

I have seen canal houses in real in Amesterdam and I remember those houses were very pretty. 'Funny' thing was a hook over the upper window. :)

Dear Ilona,

Tsk tsk! hiding your house behind a curtain for 2 years!? that just won't do!! ;o)

How nice to see it, though at first I thought there were two houses, then it all became clear! that's a clever idea, having the 'front' of the house on the side, so you can then have more rooms inside a narrow house!

I'd like to see some of your lovely miniatures inside the house, so please don't draw the curtain again for a while!!

Now, it's very funny, but a surprise package arrived in the post for me yesterday!! David said 'it's from Ilona', I thought, how does he know? at the same time wondering how you had got my address. The penny dropped when I read the card! I'm very pleased with the beautiful contents and thank you for my wonderful surprise! David had not mentioned a word about it!! I shall take some pictures for my blog. Thank you again for a kind and thoughtful gift!!

love and hugs
