Speurtocht naar lente…. / Quest for spring….

Gezien tijdens mijn fietstocht :D / Seen while I was biking :D

In the past few days we were "spoiled" by a few sunny days, finally!! It was very grey weather in the last few weeks, it seemed endless to me.
On Monday I was in my garden on a quest for flowers, I wanted to see if they also wanted to start celebrate spring ;)!
Suddenly I noticed I was hearing a strange noise, at first I couldn’t find what it was. I straightened my back, looked in the blue sky and yes, there they were: hundreds of European cranes!!

They circled around in the blue sky straight above our house looking for a thermal column. It was a beautiful view, then they continued their way in the northeastern direction. I knew cranes could "touch" the outher eastside of The Netherlands on their migration to the north (or in autumn to the south). But now I had the luck to see them by daylight and in a clear blue sky ánd there were extremely much cranes!
On the map of Wikipedia you can see their migration routes.

I ran inside, I grabbed my camera and ran quickly back outside to take some pictures, what luck ................... but, then you have to set your camera on several more meters of distance, of course :D and I didn't notice that!! Because I work with miniatures my camera is set standard on macro! Stupid, but I do have pictures and you can see that those birds are cranes, if you know where to look for ;)! They fly in large lines or in V-formation, but unlike herons cranesalways  fly with outstretched neck.
You also can see on the link of Wikipedia, that the cranes (who flew over our house close near the German border) fly to Scandinavia.

This is the blurred picture (macro setting ;)) I made myself!

Hello my dear friend,

Congratulations on capturing the first signs of spring! Your photos are beautiful, even on macro. The first one with the crane on the ground, did you take that one? It is a beautiful photo. The cow looks lovely as she soaks up some sunlight. A beautiful post dearie. It is still hot here and I have had enough!! The weather forecast is still hot for the next week and i want it to ends. Please bring autumn!

Lucky you! What a beautiful sight!! We are having sunny days right now after a few days of snow- opposite of you :) I hope we both just have sunny days that melt that snow soon ♥

Drora's minimundo zei

Your were very lucky Ilona to catch sight of these beautiful birds.
Here, in the south of Israel, bordering with Egypt, the skies were covered with locusts. You won't believe how many people drove hundreds of kilometers just to see this hazardous phenomen.
Hugs, Drora

The Old Maid zei

You have the weather just like here!:) We too are supposed to have winter back on weekend.:)
But if the birds are back here they know best: spring is coming no matter what.:)

Beautiful birds! I'm sure spring will follow not far behind them. I look forward to autumn here at the bottom of the world....

Great pics Ilona!!! Here weather is turning worse too... but if cranes are near... spring is near too!!! (or is supposed that must be so hahaha).

A big hug!

Your quest was successful... ;O) Lucky you to spot the cranes and your photo is so impressive. I've not noticed cranes so far, but a lot of geese fly over our part of the world (you can always hear them during their flight *grin*). There are some meadows near to the city of Plön where they always rest, well, we have a lot of grass and of course lakes here where I live, perfect gooseland. ;O) We've been spoiled with sunshine during the last days and spent the whole afternoon yesterday on our terrace. But the weather forecast doesn't sound good - nevertheless we could enjoy a little light.

Hugs

What good fortune to see so many cranes! They fly the same way geese do over here! I am ready for the end of Winter.... but it is snowing more tonight and tomorrow!
Your picture is very good Ilona, I do that all the time... forget to change the distance when I am outside!

You have taken some very beautiful and telling images. I absolutely love No 3, the one with the 6 cranes, where you can see their stomach and completely outspread wings. It is a unique beautiful picture Ilona. Thanks for showing.
I do not mind the cold, just the beautiful sunshine, warm and shin on me.

When I was at the ashram in India, a flock of birds flew by and my friend said a word of thanks to be so blessed just for being able to witness a miracle like that. It is, isn't it? That luck to be able to see something as beautiful as a flock of birds fly. I learn to say thanks after that too. One of those times was when I was in Germany with Birgit at the outdoor museum of farmhouses.

You are lucky to catch that flock of birds. I still remember fumbling with my camera when I was with Rosanna and we saw dolphins jumping out of the sea! In the end, I only captured them at the edge of my photo ..LOL!

Beautiful photos
I await the return of the swallows that nest every year in our garage.
It is a great pleasure!

Now I can imagain I was there :) Spring is my favourite season and like you I am constantly looking for signs that it is coming :) I picked some wild garlic for the first time last week, it made a lovely salad and it really felt like Spring to eat it :) Big hugs ♥ Vicky ♥

Fijne dag Helma
